Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

I'm starting this today too. I'm on Welbutrin XL but it's made my anxiety 10 times worse. Can't take zanax b/c of a suicide attempt two years ago and inpatient nuthouse stay...sigh...so I'm hopeful this will help. I'm bipolar with a lot more down than up. Can anyone relate?

I had to stop Viibryd because of hair loss. I have been off for 2 weeks now and my hair is still falling out but not as bad. My Doctor has me taking Biotin 5000mcg to help with re-growth. Does anyone know how long it takes after stopping Viibryd for your hair to stop falling out?

I am on day 16 of Viibryd. I was given the starter pack (10mg for 7 days, 20 mg for 7 days and now up to 40 mg). At first it was going great. The nausea was gone and so was the dizziness. But now, on the 40 mg, I sometimes get headaches in the morning.

BUT the WORST side effect is shortness of breath. This is really scary for me because I start to panic and then it seems to get worse. I am hoping in a few days this will go away. I think I will start taking this in the evening a little before bed (shortness of breath is the worst a few hours after taking the Viibryd). Psychiatrist said I can take Viibryd any time of day.

**Anyone else have a shortness of breath side effect? I am kinda hoping I am not alone with this side effect.

do NOT take this medicine!!! there is a link on here with many complaints, including mine. Did you know this is a black label drug? It barely passed with FDA..has many warnings. It has affected people's brains, bodies (muscular) etc.. DO NOT TAKE!!! Research. This drug is scary and dangerous.

I have some side effects of diaharrea... sometimes not real bad but can be annoyhing at times. I am wondering if heat can affect someone more on Viibyrd. I get nausea with heat (and it gets hot where I live... last week it was 115 with heat index). Also I get hot easier... almost like hot flashes but since I am not old enough to get those, I am not sure what is going on. I do know I was not experiencing this on my previous medicine (Celexa).

I reported the extreme hair loss to Forest Pharm.
I am taking my envelopes of hair to my Pdoc tomorrow
so that he can see first-hand the devastation of my
once beautiful hair----in just two months I went from having people comment on how pretty my hair was to
asking what is happening to my hair. The rate of fallout
is totally unbelieveable.
Please, anyone else experiencing this---report it to
Forest Pharm and the FDA

Hey - I just staerted Viibrydd about 2 months ago. I FREAKING LOVE IT and have NEVER felt better in my life. It works differently on your newrotranzmitters all the others do - and my doc said it (either has in it or creates) Norepinephrine to help the energy level. I have been on tons of antiD's - and just have never EVER felt better. BUT - do NOT take this at night. EVER. it will give you super screwed up dreams. Good luck!

JMB,
I am sorry that you have had such a horrible time on Viibryd and I hope you find something that works for you. You need to remember that not everyone reacts the same to medication. I have been on everything imaginable & Viibryd is the only one that has ever worked. It gets rid of my depession within days. It has been a life saver for me. It is much better to share your experience and not go on a crusade against Vii. It could be a life saver for someone else too.

Wow! So many side effects! Congratulations to those of you for whom it is working. As for hair loss, I would prefer to not be depressed than have hair, but I lost all mine once to chemo once so I probably have a unique perspective. The doctors I know have found Viibryd intolerable because of the gastric side effects, but the hair loss is news to me. Sounds like the FDA does need to hear about this. I thought the emotional side effects would end up taking it off the market, but they just keep on coming. It is an interesting drug. When it works it really works ad when it doesn't it is a nightmare...literally.

Hi, Dominic. (How could you possibly be a bother?) I'm glad you asked. I've been meaning to post again here, but it slips my mind when I'm at the computer. With the first full week of 20mg doses behind me, I'm happy to report that I didn't get sick at all from the increased dosage. And if it were based on expectation, I would have surely been sick; I was so sure it would happen. So there were 9 days of "morning sickness" altogether (told my Dr I thot I was pregnant. Gotta keep laughing.) 4 of the past 7 days, I've felt a calm positivity about the future, a sort of "I can handle this life thing." That's rare for me, in the past, those times came maybe 2x/year. Not euphoric; in fact, yesterday one of my big triggers got tripped, and I'm still working my way up from the suicidal bottoms. I mention this because I wouldn't want anyone to think that Viibryd will make us into happy idiots. From my long years of experience, however, I'm thinking this one shows more promise than all the others I've taken. My Dr said he that this would be my best bet so far, and it seems he's right.

So, Dominic, brace yourself for a rough start, and maybe it won't happen. If it does, and you can tough it out, it may prove to be well worth the struggle. No one knows how it will go for you; it may be harder, it may be easier. There's only one way to find out . . . . Best of luck, and please do let me know how it's going. (No, you WON'T be a bother!!)

Folks, a word of caution from an old man who has suffered much from mental illness over the decades. Even with all my experience and learning, I would still be very frightened to advise anyone, be it a close friend or a stranger communicating over the internet, as to which meds to take, and how much. There are reasons why doctors are licensed for that, and a moment's reflection will make those clear to all readers. Any blog is likely to have a wide range of contributors with wide ranges of understanding. It could be dangerous to mistake an obviously caring tone of writing for wisdom and knowledge. I have "fired" at least 5 psychiatrists, until I found the one I have been seeing for the past 20+ years. We have to trust our health care providers, even if that means moving on until we find the "right" one for us.

May 2014 be the year we each find peace.

I love tomatoes, fresh from the garden. My father did, too. I eat them several times a day. My brother hates them. When we were kids, in a family restaurant, he once ate a slice, thinking it was watermelon, and nearly up-chucked it right back on his plate. Mother hates them, too. The point is that whether something agrees with us or not seems to be more innate than just a choice. Viibryd seems to have changed my days top to bottom. I used to be at my best in the mornings, but evenings were just hell. Since Viibryd, I tend to feel a little "punky" in the morning, kind of low and tired, but afternoon and evening are usually good or better. I still have my low cycles when despair rules, but that's the best result that any med has ever given me. Thinking back on the side effects of the others (I tried them all!), it's a huge improvement. As mentioned earlier, I had some problems getting settled with Viibryd, including diarrhea and nausea. I now take the pill with supper instead of breakfast, and it works better for me. I sleep pretty well, and my dreams are normal for me. It's almost like taking no med but feeling much better. So I guess it boils down to this: we have to eat a tomato to find out how we like it. No one else can tell us beforehand how we will react. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted, will you?

I have never taken it, but can provide a little information about it.

It contains the active ingredient Vilazodone and it is approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Unlike similar medications, it has been shown to help in as little as one week, with major improvement being shown around 8 weeks.

It is also well tolerated and, so far, has been shown to have minimal side effects, but those that were experienced can include: somnolence, diarrhea and nausea.

Are there any other questions?

I am soooo glad I can take my Xanax!! I have major anxiety when driving and it has helped me soooo much!! I had gotten to the point I could hardly go anywhere without going very slow. Still working on it, but the Xanax is great!! Glad to know someone has been taking the Viibryd a couple of weeks... So far I am doing fine...I noticed today in a stressful situation that I didn't get as crazy as normal...lol.. Glad there are people to talk to about this new med...!

I am taking both Wellbutrin and the Viibryd. I am on my 9th day and am doing wel. I was a little sick at first, and now taking Flagyl for a abcess tooth (hopefully getting that fixed tomorrow) so I have had to make a point to make sure I eat (which I normally don't) breakfast. The doc told me not to take the Viivryd at night because it could cause insomnia, and I definately don't need that, I have had enough problems sleeping..... I don't know which is making me a little sickly in the morning, but it isn't anything a couple of peanut butter crackers doesn't help. I don't see why the Wellbutrin would have anything to do with the Viibryd, they are different meds...at least to me. I have to take the Wellbutrin..lol.. But, as you said, I have felt hungry too, but so far haven't gained any weight, which is a very big deal to me. I also take thyroid meds. Hope you get to feeling better, keep posting...

Dear Is,
Before you give up on Viibryd, consider taking it in the morning without food or just with protein such as eggs. Taking on an empty stomach means about a third of the drug will not be absorbed. You may find that 20 mg is enough for you or that you can take 40 mg without breakfast and still get a therapeutic dose. Also if you find that 20 mg is adequate, you can split the 40 mg pills. The half life of Viibryd is 26 hours and the pill is not coated or extended release. The cost of the 40 mg pill is the same as the 20 mg pill so you will cut your Rx cost in half. Hope this helps. Ed

Melanie, I dont know if this would be helpful to you or not, but my Dr. prescribed Remeron which isnt a seretonin uptake med but rather a class 2 receptor anti depressant. The sides are deep sleep and appetite increase. For me it did increase my appetite, however, I eat good food rather then junk so weight gain hasnt been an issue for me. I take my vybrid in the morning after a meal, and the remeron at night and diazapan (valium) I sleep well and feel rested. This is the first combination of meds that has worked 4 me. The 2 Vybrid, remeron really seem to balance eachother for me and has pulled me out of major depression. I know its a fine science and what works for one dosent always work for another. But when your really depressed, life is just sheer hell. Life is finnaly worth living. And if you can make it through the torment you become a stronger person.

I HAVE BEEN TOTALLY OFF AFTER BRINGING
MYSELF DOWN FOR 16 DAYS. I'VE BEEN OFF FOR
FOUR DAYS. SO, MAYBE TOO SOON TO TELL, BUT IT HAS NOT STOPPED YET. ISN'T IT AWFUL?
I JUST ABOUT CRY EVERY TIME I RUN MY HANDS
THROUGH IT. 2 1/2 MONTHS AGO--IT WAS SO
THICK, MOST HATS WOULDN'T FIT RIGHT. NOW
IT IS SO THIN, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO RESORT TO
WEARING HATS ALL THE TIME JUST TO HIDE IT.
I HAVE "HAIR BALLS"-----LITERALLY. I SAVE WHAT
COMES OUT WHEN I WASH IT FOR EVIDENCE.
I DATE EACH OCCURENCE AND TAPE IT TO PAPER. IF I PUT ALL OF THEM TOGETHER, I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE A HAIR BASEBALL. I AM
SO ANGRY ABOUT IT. HOW DARE THEY MFG. SOMETHING SO POISONOUS THAT IT CAUSES THIS TYPE OF DISFIGUREMENT!

My advice to you is to go very very slow. I went off of
30 mg day for 2 months over the course of 16 days---
going down by 5 mg at a time. I would suggest that
you give yourself a month to get off of 40 mg's with the
least "brain shocks" etc. If you do it slowly enough,
the coming down stuff isn't all that bad. Just be
patient with yourself. (It doesn't hurt to have a few
Ativan or Xanax on hand for the rough patches.)
I wish you luck and better health. We all need to encourage one another. This "defecto brain" that we
have to work with everyday is a challenge that the "regulars" can't even imagine. And yet we go on.
