Teva 30mg Vs Aurobindo Pharm Amphetamine Salts (adderall) (Top voted first)

Updated

For several years I've taken TEVA 30mg Amphetamine Salts 2x daily with consistent positive relief. Focus and a feeling that I could have a productive day gave me a reason to get out of bed. On 8/21/2014 all that changed to nervous anxiety filled days staying home. What caused the dramatic change quickly became clear. The generic Adderall produced by AUROBINO PHARM which my regular CVS Pharmacy filled my RX with on 8/21 was less than effective it was exasperating the very symptoms for which it was prescribed. FDA is an ineffective bureaucracy controlled by lobbyists for foreign and domestic pharmaceutical companies making huge profits in generic drugs at the expense of the health and quality of life of others. The manufacturing of inferior or possibly harmful medications by greedy corporations will continue to grow until a strong GOOD DRUG coalition is formed. Tomorrow I know I will be calling my pharmacy, CVS Corporation, my Dr., and make a report to the FDA. I will also try my damnedest never to purchase a drug produced by AUROBINDO PHAR.

Agree. This aurobindo is the worst. I felt so sick to my stomach, heartburn, headaches, and also major effects on my personality. I became very introverted and felt a feeling of being stuck and inarticulate. Not like me at all. Do not recommend. Filing a complaint

I agree....I have taken Adderall brand name and/or generic Teva and Shire for 8-9 years and NEVER had side effects like this Aurobindo is causing me My lips, nasal and eye areas, hands and forearms keep going numb.I am lethargic and nauseated.I can't function.I am laying down sleeping 3-4 times a day.I keep having re-occuring headaches ,None of this is normal for me.I haven't left the house in weeks.Something isn't right with this medication. The pharmacist told me to discontinue usage immediately.I made a report to the FDA,but doubt anything will come from it,

All you have to do is just google the name Aurobindo Adderall & see all the recent complaints. Rich, Im also calling the Pharmacy, my Dr, CVS Corp & i am filing a compIaint with the FDA. If anyone else is having serious side effects from this new Aurobindo Pham brand Adderall which it seems CVS Corp has switched us to, I urge you to do the same. I think they are having some serious quality control issues.

Apparently Aurobindo Pham is based in India & has previous FDA violations (FDA identified significant violations of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations for Finished Pharmaceuticals: fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/ucm256861.htm

Update to my 9/1 post:
After many missed called back and forth, I was finally able to speak with the CVS Quality Control guy in my area of NE Florida. The first words out of his mouth were "We're not going to do anything about this." He further stated, that CVS has no obligation to advise a patient that they are changing a generic, when an Rx is being refilled. So be sure to ask each time, before letting them refill. He also said no reimbursement was available for the $70.00 I had to spend on a duplicate Rx my Doctor wrote for Teva and my insurance would not cover.
So, CVS doesn't even pretend to care about our needs. At least he was honest about that!

Please help! Weird generic adderall filled at CVS today. 20mg tablet

This is a HUGE concern for me as I just filled my prescription today (9/8/2014) at CVS and found your post after googling what the difference is as they look completely different as they often do with generics, but I've NEVER seen them look like this nor look so chalky. I haven't taken one yet so I do not know if it will have the same results as my previous ones which were all TEVA pharm also. Did you speak with CVS about your findings with this new pharm company? I would really appreciate knowing what they had to say if you don't mind. Thank you in advance.

I did a little google investigation, for what it's worth to the next person researching Aurobindo generic Adderall...

Basically I found 4 differences while comparing both active & inactive ingredients for:
Teva Amphetamine/Dextro 20mg vs. Aurobindo Amphetamine/Dextro 20mg

The Aurobindo brand medication guide lists Povidone as an inactive ingredient. (Povidone is not listed an an inactive ingredient for Teva.)

A simple google search of "Povidone Inactive Ingredient" came up with:
"Povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone, PVP) is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic polymer vehicle for dispersing and suspending drugs. It also acts as a disintegrant and tablet binder. It appears as white to off-white hygroscopic powder in its pure form and is readily soluble in water."

A follow-up google search of "Povidone Side Effects" displayed:
"Skin irritation. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking povidone iodine topical: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

*** I am aware that it states "povidone IODINE TOPICAL," but still found it relevant enough considering I read several user reviews stating they experienced swelling of the lips and tongue.*** Apparently it's not super rare to be allergic to Povidone. Who knew. Thanks Aurobindo!

Ok, moving along. Teva brand has 2 inactive ingredients that Aurobindo doesn't have. Teva has both compressed/compressible sugar and sodium saccharin. So Teva's taste sweeter because they literally are. I'm learning so much today!

Basic google results for "compressible sugar side effects" include: "While sugar is essentially non-toxic, it can be associated with dental caries, exacerbation of diabetes, and weight gain." The End.

Ok now sodium saccharin. Google search results "Sodium saccharin is the solid form of the artificial sweetener saccharin. Saccharin is non-nutritive and is used to add sweetness to beverages and foods without the calories or detrimental effects of consuming sugar." P.S. Saccharin was banned in the U.S. in the 80's but has now been officially un-banned. Heads up ya'll.

Sooo, that was long. But hopefully informative. Only other difference I found between Teva generic & Aurobindo generic is that one of the 4 active ingredients in Teva is listed as "Amphetamine Aspartate" whereas Aurobindo lists "Amphetamine Aspartate MONOHYDRATE." Not sure of the difference just yet...but I'm assuming there is one, or else wouldn't they just both be listed the same way?

I really wanted to write a post just saying "AVOID AUROBINDO AT ALL COSTS - IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE POO." But then figured a little research may be more persuasive. And hey, everyone's bodies are different, maybe you'll love it...but prob not. Today's my first day ever taking Aurobindo and it legit made me feel like s*** all day. Like, really what's the point?

Good luck!

I've been on Adderall for close to 4 years now. I've tried various generic brands, and if doctors or pharmacists tell you all generics are the same, find a different doctor/pharmacist. My experience has been as follows:

Sandoz - Started off with this brand. Very smooth and clean experience. Great for focus. But it's gotten progressively weaker. The 2017 batches have been very weak.

Mylan - Needed a higher dose than usual. Only used it for a month.

Mallinckrodt - No potency issues here, but side effects were pronounced. Racing heart, chest pains, insomnia, bruxism, muscle aches, GI distress, etc. The intended benefits of Adderall (focus, motivation) were not there at all.

Teva - Sugar pill. Seriously. It's sweet, and feels like nothing. No effects whatsoever. My current dose is 20mg twice a day, and I have to take 40mg to feel any effects from this. Tried it on two separate refills with no luck.

Corepharma - What was once the worst generic brand, is now the best. Works exactly as smooth as Sandoz, but much more potent. The intended effects of focus and motivation are noticeable with every dose. Been on this the last 11 months. However recently discovered they stopped manufacturing their generic Adderall in August 2017. Pharmacists can no longer order this generic.

Aurobindo - After searching far and wide for Corepharma with no luck, I ended up with Aurobindo. It was a blind fill, if I'm being honest. A quick Google search would've saved me the trouble, but of course, ADHD-inspired impulsivity was my undoing. This is hands down the worst generic on the market. Even doubling my dose left me feeling like I'd taken nothing. My theory is that this pill does not contain any amphetamine salts (wouldn't be the first time a pharmacy out of India was caught selling placebo pills). To test this theory I took a 40mg dose at 10pm one night, and was able to sleep quite comfortably an hour later. Even a 5mg dose of Corepharma or the weaker Sandoz leaves me unable to sleep for 2-3 hours. There's obviously something wrong with this generic, and a simple Google search will show you thousands of complaints against Aurobindo and their version of Adderall. Aurobindo has already received multiple warning letters from the FDA, but that's clearly not working. They need to be investigated and shut down for scamming millions of us. Unfortunately, in my state (Georgia), Aurobindo appears to be the most carried brand in pharmacies. When asked, they say it's the cheapest brand available to them, but not by a big margin. Rite Aid exclusively carries only Aurobindo now, and most Krogers, Publix, Targets, Walmarts, CVS' also seem to carry Aurobindo. Start sending in your complaints to the FDA if you've had a similar experience with Aurobindo, because if we stay silent, pharmacies will start to think there's nothing wrong with this generic and will soon be carrying it exclusively.

Update to my post 09/06:

My pharmacy (Winn Dixie) told me they could not exchange the pills or give me a credit or refund, but they were nice about it.They also said they couldn't specifically order Teva brand, because the only generic Adderall they get when an order is placed is Aurobindo. They said apparently I was allergic to one of the fillers in Aurobindo.I had to go to a privately owned pharmacy to get Teva. If your having a problem with Aurobindo Adderall, file a report with the FDA.Ask your pharmacist for the lot # for your prescription.

Walgreens still has Teva. I always ask The pharmacist what generic brand they have on hand at CVS. He was able to warn me that they were carrying this new aurobindo stuff so I called around and thankfully Walgreens is carrying Teva as of September 24, 2014 so those of you who are used to having Teva try Walgreens.

Same experience here. Something is not right with the Aurobindo amphetamine salts. I agree with another poster who said it exacerbates symptoms - I felt spaced out to the max and severely lethargic. Just got a refill of Barr at Walgreens. Screw CVS and Aurobindo.

i just called CVS caremark and complained about the AUROBINDO adderall which does NOT work! I have to call back in 1 hour to speak to the people in "clinical", however, it seemed that this was not a new complaint that they had heard. Maybe if everyone calls and complains to CVS they will do something about this widespread problem. maybe recall the med or something would be nice!

This is exactly what is happening to me! I'm becoming extremely deressed and unable to function daily. I thought it was just me and seems the more I try to snap out the worse I feel... in 2-3 months my entire life has declined, which I just realized is when the pharm switched to this mfg! I dont leave home don't answer calls or messages from family or friends, Its a blessing I found your post

Hi Everyone, I found some interesting info and real answers on a website that's for pharacist I guess but, even though I'm completely miserable because, this time Publix filled my script for 20 IR mgs with auro&actavis after I specifically asked her not to (she had to order) so, after week and a half of zilch while searching, waiting for order over Thanksgiving, my boyfriend picked them up and she wrote on the side 2 different manufacturers and only charged me $29 versus $98 but, still it's actually making me manic depressive which I'm not, horribly depressed and when taken at 10 a.m starts working? ! Around 10p.m! Ugh! So my fellow suffers, I found out that the Concerta generics are being recalled, the Good Faith Policy at Walgreens has already been subject of AMA&FDA calling them out on befalf of numerous dr complaints, etc. Here's where to go to find out at least what's trying to be done about shortages, generics cost&quality. It's called (the site) Modern medicine network, now you have to be a health professional to post but, any real news is better than none at all. I'm truly praying for all of us. I know people are losing their jobs, failing grades and having anxiety over all this and it's wrong. There's been talk of a legal suit and I'm all for it, we're treated like criminals, profiled and left to suffer while that wait (I guess) for someone to fall asleep at the wheel of a car and kill people. I'm really in shock about how ridiculously the FDA moniters stuff. Also, on that same site you can finally view walgreens Good Faith Policy, that they refuse to release! I hope in the next few days, I'll have something good to report. Every one don't forget to submit a complaint to FDA. That's also on there to link up too. ;)

I just went to the pharmacist today and they told me that my side effects using the aurobindo generic is possible due to the inactive ingredients. I felt a sense of being out of breath as well as anxious when I took the aurobindo that a different cvs gave me rather than the Teva brand I usually take. I never had that reaction before and I actually found one of my Teva brand ones and tried taking it and it must be the aurobindo pills because I did not have any side effects. Thanks for info posted on here because I will look into this.

Re: James (# 97) Expand Referenced Message

There is no longer a brand name generic IR available. Only extended release has a brand name. There is not an authorized generic available for IR either. It ha's become a inferior medication that is not monitored or regulated at all by FDA and is produced by several manufacturers. TEVA has become the mass distributed generic IR for the large chains such as Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc. It has also become the worst quality with zero effectiveness. It's is a sugar pill.

Re: Bobby (# 196) Expand Referenced Message

Here is how it works: when a generic company decides it would like to manufacture and distribute a brand-name medication, they are required to conduct testing.

Invariably, they only recruit very few individuals in their testing, sometimes less than 10. This is obviously very poor external validity measurement

The purpose of these tests are to determine bio-equivalency.

The results are not made public to anyone but the FDA. In other words, the FDA must “take their word” that the testing protocol had proper external and internal validity measures. They must show that their product with a 95% confidence, is plus or -20% Bio equivalent to that of the brand name

There should be a third-party that reviews testing measures that these generic companies use. Moreover, results should be made public.

Then, if they can show bio-equivalency, invariably the FDA will approve.

Now here is the scary part.

The FDA does a profoundly poor job at inspecting these sites to determine if what they stated is actually what they are producing.

Horrible!

The Aurobindo brand of Adderall is terrible. I feel sedated on it. Instead of helping me focus it does the opposite! I will NOT get my next Rx filled at CVS (my regular pharmacy) or any other pharmacy that uses this brand. I have taken Adderall for years -both XR & short acting -and this is the first time I have had this experience. I wish I could afford to have it tested at a lab- I bet there is very little active ingredient and/or some sort of filler that makes the drug ineffective. If Aurobindo knows this and has done nothing to remedy the situation, I call that criminal. Also, I have had an ongoing UTI since taking the Aurobindo brand of Adderall. Anyone else had this too?

I was SO RELIEVED to find this blog! Friday 11/27 filled RX at CVS for 20 mg generic adderall - I took 1 pill and had a severe headache. Sat 11/28 took my normal dosage - within 15 mins I felt nauseated but figured I must have been coming down with something. I DROVE to the store 10 miles away only to find myself in a NIGHTMARE!!! I suddenly felt like I was not even driving my vehicle! If that was not bad enough, I pulled over and went in to a store for some water. I SWEAR ON MY LIFE I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A STROKE! My left side went numb! My left arm, hand, and face went numb. My tongue was swollen, my heart was racing and I could not talk. I was confused and of course terrified. My husband went to pick me up and took me to the ER where they injected me with Benadryl and steroids to offset the reaction. I did everything I could to not close my eyes because I thought I was never going to wake up again and I wanted to see my son. I was released hours later doped up on Benadryl which I continued to take every 4 hours for the next day. I woke up today feeling great and ready for work. I was still not sure if the adderall was what made me sick, so I took HALF my dose............WITHIN 5 MINS I had the numbness and tingling and tongue swelling. I immediately went to my doctor and told him what was happening. While I was waiting in the waiting room I googled the manufacturer and stumbled on to this site!! AUROBINDO ALMOST KILLED ME! I never knew there was difference. It wasn't until I was waiting that I noticed my bottle said "DEXTROAMP-AMPHETAMIN NOT THE USUAL AMPHETAMINE SALT COMBO and I THEN REALIZED THERE WAS A 30 ON THE PILL WHEN IT ALWAYS HAD A 20. My doctor wrote a new script for 1 week and told me to go to where I always filled my script and return in 2 days for a follow up. After much deliberation, (and I was feeling way better after another round of steroids) I decided to take my NORMAL TEVA pill. I sat and waited nervously for about 20 minutes and guess what? I FEEL ABSOLUTELY NORMAL AGAIN! NO NUMB TONGUE, NO NUMB FACE, MY HEART IS NOT POUNDING! SO after this novel here, my question to you guys is WHAT NOW? I locked that bottle of poison up in a lock box hoping that some day soon they ask me for it and find something that can STOP THEM FROM SELLING THEM! What scares me the most is how many people out there have had this problem only to be told they are manic, or delusional or PSYCHOTIC and filled with other medications because they were not able to articulate what was happening to them? How many people's lives will this medicine ruin?
