Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 31)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

You can't. Controlled substance. Your name is in a state wide data base..maybe country wide

Loved King Crimson! I used to be able to refill at 66%, then it went to 75%, and now its like 99%, the last day or the day before

I had a similar problem with Walgreens at their 24 hr pharmacy. They actually told me, you can't have this for 2 days and NOT before 8 AM. I immediately changed our entire families scripts and gave them 'choice words' a lady doesn't use but I was so mad....at the 'Not before 8AM' Part. When I told them off LOUDLY, people in line clapped. Amazing. Sometimes the little guys are so happy for your business that they treat you like a Person AND they let me have meds 2 days early bc they are closed weekends. Cool place.

Yes you CAN. There is no law on the books at the DEA that says xanax (or any schedule IV) cannot be filled early. It's completely up to 1.) the insurance (if you're using insurance) and 2.) the pharmacist/pharmacy.

I get my Xanax filled two days early every month. I just yesterday got a month's supply filled 4 days early.

I guess you will learn for next time. I live in Canada and had a stroke and am on clonazepam and codeine, Mirtazapine, plus blood thinners and I always get my pills a day or two early but they know me by name at my Pharmacy. I would never ever try to get a Xanax script filled early because I don't want them to think I'm abusing my pills. Not only would the Pharmacy put a note on my file, they would contact my Dr and he could cut me right off all my pills. So what I'm trying to say is I guess it's a hard lesson to be learned...

Ugh. I know. It is up to the pharmacists discretion. Unfortunately they are the final decision maker. Even if your doc wrote you the script. :( depends on the pharmacy. Always stick to one pharmacy if you can. Develope a relationship with them. Pharmacy shopping is not good. Fyi. And perhaps your doctor will make a courtesy call to speak to the pharmacists. See the problem is becoming that it's the doctors who are over prescribing. Not all but some. So now the pharmacy has to use their best judgement. This is all within the past year. Good luck.

When it comes to CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES it's funny how nurses gets criticised for telling the truth which a lot of people don't want to hear.

I have one refill left on my diazepam. It is written 1 to 2 every 6 hrs as needed. Walgreens will not let you pay out of pocket to get drug filled early. It is a fifteen day supply and I have 7 days left on it when taken that way. My doctor knows I also take more of it for my back problems so my problem comes from insurance saying to early to refill. Can I transfer the script so I can get it filled early without a problem if I pay cash. I would be filling it 3 days earlier than what my insurance will let me fill.

A few variables with this Sally. Has this particular prescription (original plus refills) been transferred yet, or is the current pharmacy where it was originally filled? I only ask because you can only transfer schedule IV meds once per script (up to 5 refills).

If it hasn't been transferred you will need to take your pill bottle to other pharmacies and ask if they can fill it for you. I'm sure most pharmacies won't have an issue with you paying cash. Yet the problem you may still run into is that it is STILL an early refill on a controlled med.

The only thing you can do is try. You may just find a pharmacy willing to fill it 3 days early just to get the extra business. Usually though, especially if they don't know you, pharmacists won't fill schedule IVs any sooner than two days early if even 1.

You also said that your doctor knows you take extra. You could ask him to write you a new script and change the dosage that way your insurance HAS to pay for it and the pharmacy HAS to honor it. This way, in the future, you won't run into this problem again.

Otherwise you may want to try to be conservative with your pills. Valium has a long half life so you'll have about a 4-5 day window before withdrawals would really start to get critical. Best of luck!

The bottom line from a recovering addict who has used them inappropriately at times and in recovery has used them(benzodiazepines) absolutely the correct way if your honest with self take them as prescribed almost 100% or the time u will not have a problem....no problem running out no need to worry about filling early and no need to worry on who the doctor, the pharmacy or the insurance company are making the final decision lastly no need to try to figure out which would try to be the best pharmacy to try to get over on play by the rules and u will ALWAYS win in the long run from someone for different reasons has tried it all...with honesty u win.and if your having tolerance withdrawal thus using more, get on a professional liquid slow tapering program as I did and became healthier mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically and I found increasing pain issues were from the benzodiazepines affecting the receptors ....a lot to take in if your always honest with yourself and others u will find a real solution bless to all having medicine issues

What state are you in? I'm in CA. I've had it filled one day early, and just assumed it was a pharmacy error.

Re: Joe (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Tbh bro you didn’t even go through withdrawal, it’s all in your head to say the least. If you’ve been on Xanax that long especially 3 bars a day you are in no way whatsoever in any danger of withdrawal until at least 48 hours without it. Trust me, I’ve been through it and the more you try to fill early and/or pharmacy shop etc the quicker you will be flagged and never be able to receive Xanax or any Benzo again. Drs get legal suits handed their way all the time now and they will not hesitate to cut you off esp if you're trying to fill early making excuses that consist of helping friends with medication. Technically by telling them that they can get in trouble for not contacting authorities on you. Ya. That’s a very extreme case but technically they could cut you off and turn you in just for admitting that. Don’t give away your meds and if you run out for whatever reason you’re not going to experience withdrawal until a couple days have passed without it. Also keep in mind that pharmacies and Drs tend to already know when someone shows addictive tendencies and they already have reasons to deny you before you ever try to fill early. They do this for a living everyday so ya they kind of know better. You can basically get away with saying you lost your meds once or twice tops ever. Saying you gave them away is the dumbest excuse you, me or anyone else can think of. Even if they think you’re telling the truth at the very least they will think it’s possible that you’re a damn drug dealer. Good lord.

You get a 3 month supply which indicates you get 3 refills I’m assuming based off of what you are saying. The law was passed in January of 2018 which states that under a controlled substance, doctors are only allowed to request 1 refill. Just some food for thought.

Re: Rick (# 614) Expand Referenced Message

This must be state law. It's not a DEA or Controlled Substance law on a federal level. I live in Indiana and here anything under 4mgs a day of alprazolam can have up to 5 refills. Anything 4mg a day and over can have up to 3 refills.

I get 4mg a (2mg x 2 bid prn) day and have been since February when my dose was upped by .5 mg a day. I always get 3 refills so the law you're referring to must be a State law passed by your respective state legislature.

Re: concerned (# 29) Expand Referenced Message

There should be no reason for you to run out of any drug that is given to you by a doctor if you're taking it the right way and by the way you can fill Xanax and any schedule drug in the state of Florida up to 3 days prior so there should be no reason for you to run out unless you're taking too many or you're selling them or you're giving them away.

You have to use another discount card. I get 2mg from Caremark through Medicare and I use an Rx discount card for the other. UNTRACEABLE. SO USE ANOTHER CARD.

Re: Stephen PA (# 14) Expand Referenced Message

Actually, although it has been and IS still used in other contexts, the term "narcotic/s" originally began enjoying more popularity in forensics or especially sensationalist media. It referred to any illicit drug regardless of its effect. It's a dated term and stylistically awkward.

32 pages of posts, not going to read them all again. Your Doctor could write for 50 refills, all you are allowed to fill is the Original plus whatever amount your Doctor feels you should have for 6 months, that is the Federal law

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Your could call your doctor and he can call in a new script. This happened to me too, I was three days earlier because I was going on vacation for 2 weeks. Knowing that the pharmacy didn't give a crap. I called my Pysicatrist and she put in a new script for me. 2 hours later I picked up my meds.
