I take hydromorphone 4mg as needed but i wanted to know if it was safe taking two tablets?
Hydromorphone, the active ingredient in Dilaudid is a very potent narcotic analgesic.
That said, it is not advisable to increase your dosage without your doctor's approval. Doing so runs the risk of overdose and other serious side effects, such as organ damage.
If your current dosage does not control your pain, you should speak to your doctor to explore your other options.
Have you contacted them yet?
Due to a near fatal accident I had in 2007, I have many chronic physical problems, some accident related and others such as severe arthritis, torn ligaments in both knees, disc problems bot sides of the back. The disc and knee problems are so painful that surgery is my option. I started out taking 4mg dilaudid every 4-6 hours and am at taking two 8mg tabs every 4-6 hours around the clock, which works out to 16 mg every 4 hours, including the awful hours around 2 - 3 am when I'm woken with unbearable pain. I've been on this for 3 years and I have my life back, great pain relief, no side effects, other than the odd time constipation. If I were to take opioids but get moderate pain relief, I wouldn't bother. I know it sounds like a lot, but at least I can be more active, don't cry anymore from pain and have my life back. I see my doc every 4 weeks for monitoring and pick up a month supply when I'm there. As long as you are being monitored frequently by your doctor and the side effects don't outweigh the benefits, you should look into it. I do caution you to see a pain specialist first because there might be something else you can take which would help you just as much, for example suboxone. It is very good as well, but in my case the side effects far outweighed the benefits. Whatever you do, please see your doctor frequently and discuss adjusting the dosage in baby steps. Best of luck to you

Hydromorph 4mg, I have almost every injury you describe happen to me. But I was getting the 4mg. Dr. went to jail now I can't find any help you have any solution cause now on top of my Pain is withdrawals?
I just recently got back in my old pain clinic which has new owners. Everything was still on file there so that was a plus. I have cervical spinal stenosis, DDD, and Ulcerative Colitis. Im taking 4mg hydromorphone twice daily with oxycodone 7.5 for breakthrough pain (month count). I just started 2 weeks ago and the 4mg seems to not be working like it use to. Also the 7.5 are like taking tylenol. I know my tolerance has changed so should i ask if i need to go up to 6 or 8 mg on the hydromorphone and change my breakthrough to something stronger. Thanks
My doctor wants to put me on the dilaudid 16mg pump. How much should the pump give me to be equal to the amount I take daily? I also take a 4 mg dose for breakthrough pain.
