How Long Does It Take For The Withdrawals To Go Away After Taking Suboxone (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hi, I was put on the 8 mg. strips at 3 per day in Oct. 2012..I used 3 per day for a couple of month's.. I quickly tapered down to 1&1/2 of the strip's per day..I got so tired of being on it so I began to stock pile it to withdraw on it at home.. I got down to 1-2 mg.s per day for about the past month and began yesterday (Monday) withdrawing..It's now Tuesday (July 9,2013) and still feel like I did yesterday.. No vomiting nor the big "D" but sweating, lethargic, chilling, feel achy, etc.. How long will it take for the withdrawal's to completely go away..PLEASE answer ASAP & THANKS....Oh, don't scare me about it because I'm all ready an emotional wreck..

Luckily your not on too high a dose, thank your lucky stars for that. Ive been on 2-8/2 subox for 7 years. I just recently changed to one subtex and 1/2 a sub and i feel fine so far. Going to start 1/4 subox and the one subtex then ill be totally off suboxone and ill slowly taper doen from there. I know how you fell, the world does not stop while you are trying to withdraw. Just go slow and maybe try some natural remebies too or even something light from doc for sleep/anxiety. I wish you the best and also they do make rls pills. I have had restless leg syndrome even before there was a name for it and it runs in my family. Its 100 times wosre when your withdrawing...just be strong try to walk to relieve stress or work out if possible. That helps and hot baths and hot tea. Let us know how you are doing and like i said be very thankful you are on such a small dose!

Where do I start, to get on suboxone? I'm in Indiana...It has helped me get off 80-120mg of vicodins/day..but when I try to stop taking it I get terrible withdrawals...I've been taking half a 2mg pill a day now from 2-4 2mg pills/day. Actually I started taking a quarter of a 2mg the beginning of this week, trying to wean off..I'm terrified of the withdrawal as its worse than ANY other withdrawal symptoms..I've tried 4 times only mine come immediately after I stop taking it, like by the 2nd day terrible nausea, can't sleep can't eat restless legs and arms disorienting chills then sweating profusely, it's miserable..I run a business with my husband and CANT AFFORD TO GO THROUGH the withdrawal, which I've only made it to 6 days before..I just wanna know how I can get on it as every time I've tried I've been told I also have to go to counseling 3 x's a week for 3 1/2 hrs per session at a cost of 150 per session..I have no insurance, I pay cash for EVERYTHING. I have 4 little boys who I can't afford to just ignore while I detox from this evil drug...I really want be able to taper off but I just don't see how it's going to happen...

Its not hard and also makes the benzo work 3 times better so u use way less since they potentiate each other!! I been on 20mg Subox and or subutex for last 9yrs and have one month off today!! longest I been able to stay off and its only due to being able to have some of the side effects lessened by the tranquilizers. also Temazepam or Ambien/lunesta all work great if taken 30-1hr. b4 bed depending upon med. dose, etc.. also Zofran and or Phenergan/promethazine 25mg t.i.d or 3times a day as needed for an antiemetic. Good luck everyone, Stay strong as u kno u don't wanna stay on this extreamly expensive med for any longer then needed, but they are special care cases that do require long-term treatment/ and or lifetime treatment of this drug. some are better on then off so its very personalized and u must soul search and listen to ur body and make the right move for urself!!

guys, seriously. don't just be so quick to jump off suboxone. I mean, if you're a years long sub user, that's fine but be smart about it, tapering may also take years. the relapse rate after stopping suboxone is very very high. suboxone is a medication, just like everything else. they can all be "bad" for you. I'm not going to say "disease" but, if you're a serious, long term addict, your brain is broken. a short period on subs isn't going to fix it. it is a maintenance drug. wanting to get off subs is fine, but seriously think about it, consider people's advice but also remember why you're on suboxone in the first place. I can't speak on anyone else's "wonder drugs" so I won't say they didn't work for them, but remember every person is different, hell even every detox is different.some people take nothing but Imodium answer feel great. please don't think you're doing something "wrong" or "replacing one drug with another" you're not. you're broken. you have to fix your brain, and your thoughts and behaviors and habits and your feelings.

guys stop making people feel bad for needing suboxone. if you stigmatize it like dope or pills or whatever else, then they get to thinking "what's the difference?" and they can be dangerous to an addict that's clearly already vulnerable. it's not up to anyone else to say whats "no good" for someone else. you would never say "hey don't do chemo it's no good for you" or "I know you probably shouldn't take insulin" or say suboxone is so terrible while pushing some mysterious super drug that happened to work for you.

like I said, tapering is great if you can do it. but sometimes you can't. and that's OK. don't get discouraged, you just need a longer taper. it's not wrong to use medication for it's intended purposes. and I'm not just talking out of my ass, I've been taking 10 bags a day for three years. suboxone is saving my life right now and has for 4 months.

I can't believe the wrong information being spread around.

It's the other way around. If you take an opiate and then take subs before the opiate is out of your system you will go into precipitated withdrawals. But if you take a sub and then an opiate, you will just waste the opiate. It is blocked from attaching to your receptors and you simply pass it through your system. As for only taking it one day and not needing it the next, I'm not so sure about that. Subs have a long half life but need to build up in your system. If you stop after one day, you will more than likely be in withdrawal the next day. Not to mention, why would anybody do that? Subs are supposed to break the mental habit of needing opiates. Skipping days that early in detox is really just wasting the purpose that subs are meant for.

It doesn't make you sick. You just can't feel it. I've done this before and haven't been sick. Maybe it does for some. I can only speak for myself. I am on day 2 of sub withdrawal and can feel it.

So im not a doctor. I know soboxone has a long half life like i could go 3 days with out it. I had built a tolerance though. Usually what happens with a suboxone is whenever you take a suboxone that blocks the opiates from giving you a high and I have heard about people that have taking suboxin and then like a day later used an opiate and it has made them go into withdrawals and made them really sick.

my family member just quit opiates and started suboxone. He took 24mgs of suboxone the first day. The second day he said he took too much and did not need any the 2nd day. Is that possible? Did he use again? He only has 8 suboxone. How should he taper off them so he can get in a drug free rehab?

I agree. Tramadol is what landed me on suboxone to begin with. The problem with tramadol is that it is completely chemical based synthetic opiate with anti depressant qualities as well as pain relieving. So when you withdrawal from tramadol you get a mix of opiate wds, anti depressant wds and also some weird other affects from all if the chemicals. When I went through wds from tramadol I could not even get up to brush my teeth. It was by far the most intense wds I have ever gone through. I'm REALLY surprised they're prescribing it to get off of suboxone! Truthfully using one opiate to get off of another is just keeping the cycle moving. I would really suggest gabapentin. It will ease a lot of the pain of wds without filling your opiate receptors with just another substitution.

Theobe,

I'm glad you did not feel anything from tramadol bc it will get you. The evil little suckers. Withdrawal is absolutely the worst pain I've ever been in. Toss them!

That blows my mind because i am on suboxone and my doctor gave me a big bottle of tramadol for a bad back. I still have a whole bunch in my cabinet, and me being a long time dope fiend, that would not have been the case if i even felt them!but i took them a few times and felt nothing! And also I noticed last time i was at the docs theres a new sign on the wall that says michigan just categorized tramadol as a controlled substance! So they must be something heavy but i swear i felt nothing from them! Im going to check out that stuff that starts with a g to get off the subox. Its really nice to be able to chat with other folks that know what you are going through and dont judge you, so thanks everyone!

Mornin,
Yea that sub doctor is a piece of trash. It seemed like mine never wanted me to get off. Everytime id ask he would switch topics. As long as he gets that $50 up front charge. You need to be in communication with your regular doctor. You need to have open dialogue too.

How do I get gabapentin? I figure the only way to get off subs is to take something else until the worst withdrawals are over. Something like Clonidine or gabapentin that's not addictive. My sub doc is not helping for coming off. I already mentioned Clonidine and he dismissed it. Not sure what to do. My other docs (psychologist and my regular doc) won't deal with it. As in , won't prescribe me anything to help me off the subs. I am on a low sub dose(2 mg now) and have tapered, but I know the withdrawals are not good no matter what you jump from. Any advice would help. Thanks

I agree. I was going through sub wds and thought I couldn't take any more of the pain etc. I was just about to go back to my sub dr and get back on them when I came across an old bottle of gabapentin that had been prescribed to me about a year earlier. I hadn't taken any of it so I googled it and found a few (very few) threads saying it helped. I took some and it was a life saver! Gabapentin is the only reason that I didn't go back to my sub dr. It calmed my restless legs, helped me sleep, helped boost my appetite and my mood. I used it to get through the worst of the sub wds. About a month total. No wds from the gabapentin and I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I have now been sober for 10 months. I would really suggest to anybody to look into gabapentin.

I've been clean for these past 7 years off opiates and crack. But im on that pharmaceutical s***. I dont remember the last time i was totally clean. Probably my last jail bit...?? Im going to investigate that stuff you are talking about. I am not around drugs/addicts so im not worried about relapsing if i did get on subutex. Im just thinking one less ingredient would be easier to kick.. I appreciate your support!

Do not take Tramadol! This is pretty much why I'm taking subs. Lots of docs think they are ok, but w/d from them are worse than opiates! They are the devil in disguise. I've noticed more docs are becoming aware of the horrible effects of Tramadol, but it's still being prescribed even sometimes for sub withdrawal. Not a good choice to make you feel better unless you want another worse addiction. Believe me, Tramadol is not a drug to get involved with.
