Contrave Vs Belviq (Page 2)

I was on free 2 weeks of Belviq followed by 1 mo out of pocket Belviq. Lost and felt good with NO side effects at all. Then my doctor said she thought Contrave would be a better choice because it is just as effective, if not more, and cheaper...just 70 dollars a month. But, I have heart racing and feel agitated. I did not experience either with Belviq. I feel like calling my Dr. Back and asking to switch back and suck up the 200 mo. For Belviq.

well - you will find out --- I did have bad side effects and it did take me longer to get up to all four pills a day, however I find it better than belviq -- which I used for about a year. the Contrave seems to give me more of a "framework" and I get clearer signals about satiety than with the belvique --- and really - two pounds a week is a fine about to loose if you are thinking long term.... really!

The $75 is true for someone without insurance. I would call the number and discuss it with them.

My doctor does not prescribe Contrave, but he does not say why. How can I find a doctor who will at least consider it?

I just went through this issues myself. For some reason CVS computer system won't process the discount cards correctly. They also told me $160 and I had the tech call the 1-800 number and attempt to correct the problem turns out it's cvs computers. I took my script to Walgreens and it came out to $75

I had the same issue with the cost call contrave if the pharmacy is charging u more than 75$ they will help!

Sorry, but, you are wrong. My dr was going to prescribe Contrave for me, and, we looked it up together when I asked what was in it. The 2 active drugs do treat other problems, as alcohol addiction, and, opioid addiction. To make a long conversation short, weight loss is basically a by product from these 2 drugs combined. She started me with Belviq (just got it) to see how it worked, as Contrave says you should lose 13%-23% if your body weight, while Belviq said 5%. Why would I go for 5% when 23% is also available? I'll try Belviq and see what happens, but, may switch to Contrave if results aren't acceptable. Anyway, just wanted to say the other person's comment on Contrave was correct.

Just got Belviq today with the Belviq card for $75. So, no need to be paying more. Just ask your dr for a Belviq starter kit (15 day free trial + card for max $ amt to pay $75), or, you an get it from Belviq's Webb site.

Agreed..lol..naltrexone is an opiate antagonist! Blocks the effects. Don't be giving people such misinformation!

I'm on wellbutrin alone. Have been for 3 years. I am a nurse. I didn't want contrave cuz the dose of naltrexone is insanely high! I am taking my own separate dose of low dose naltrexone. Along with my usual wellbutrin (150mg 2x/day ). I started at 2 mg. 2x daily. Then switched to 4mg nightly. (Naltrexone works best between 9am & 3 am. First 4 days..I lost 12lbs. Degenerative disc disease, herniated l-5 & s-1..pain nearly gone. Sciatica. .diminished greatly. Only side effect? No cravings for carbs/sugar. Ask for ldn. Not contrave. And..it's way cheaper! Best to u!

If anyone needs help I'm here! This low dose naltrexone has replaced my pain meds! Weight loss/decreased cravings. Just a welcome side effect!

Fyi-I'm not a drug rep. Do ur research. There's no money to be had on low dose naltrexone on its own. This weight loss drug is for food addicts. That's all it will work for. Compulsive food minded thinking /binging. It works on that same reward center of ur brain that effects opiate and alcohol addicts. No matter what ur poison. .the effects are the same in our brains. Lucky us..lol!

Contrave is also prescribed for food addiction. It is not only for drug addiction. Please research.

I have been taking Contrave for 3+ months with only a 3lb weight loss and a consistent headache. I am very happy this medication works for some. Prior to Contrave I tried Qsymia and after a few days I coughed and my throat itched so intensely I went to the ER. I threw the remainder of the Qsymia in the trash and almost immediately stopped coughing and my throat stopped itching. Next I plan to try Belviq. Will post results. Best luck to all!

Hi. I am done taking my first month of Belviq after loving and being on Phetermine for 3 yrs thru a weight loss center. Long story short, my PCP is afraid to prescribe it bcz of long term side effects. He is willing to also prescribe me Contrave. I'm not impressed with Belviq. It does NOT curb my appetite. In your experience, is Contrave better at controlling appetite than Belviq? I hope so.

My Doctor has said that Contrave is a combination of opioids and wellbutrin. I had started taking it, first week felt great. I had more energy, not hungry. The second week was awful. Throat swelling, awful full blown anxiety attacks, looking at food made me nauseous, depressed. I had taken the morning pill and did not take the night pill and the next day felt 100% back to normal. Guess a nutritionist is better than this medication.

Contrave is also used for weight loss in individuals who have a genetic pre-disposition for addiction. We are usually binge/stress/addictive eaters, with similar symptoms as those addicted to drugs.Therefore, with stimulation of the hormones such as serotonin, endorphins, etc. that make the taker more energetic, happier, less stressed and the blocking of the receptors that crave food you break the unhealthy food addiction and incessant thought process cycle.

I was on Contrave for weight loss, but did not experience any side effects except dizziness & heart racing only when I did not consume enough food. Contrave did not work for me after the 2nd month. Both Contrave and Belviq do come with a savings card. Without insurance, my cost was $80 monthly. With insurance, it's now $30 for Belviq.
