J Says:

If I tested positive for methamphetamine because of claritin d (and now that sample is sent to be retested at the lab), can they tell it was a false positive?

Claritin D has ephedrine in it. Just simply explain that you took claritin D. It's not technically a false positive because it contains a key component.

J, I'm not 100% sure but I believe that Clariton D has pseudoephedrine HCL in it which would show up as you using Meth. I've had the same problem with an OTC sinus medication that I take coming back as being positive for Meth. I paid for a confirmation test($32) which came back as being negative for Meth. I hope this helps.

My dad has been with the same company for 28 years and they switched owners. Well they did a drug test for everyone and my dad doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs, from time to time he fights a common cold and my mom is on lots of meds. So he didn't pass his test and couldn't get the results because the company paid for it unless he paid for his own test (which he did $175) and he is still being denied his results. As well as any termination papers or anything. I know my dad is a hard worker and doesn't do drugs, yet he is terminated. Can my mom's meds possibly cause false positive results for meth? Please help - my dad is 62 yrs old and drives 81 miles one way to his job and he is extremely dedicated and loyal, he is a deacon of the church and is not he fair treatment. Please please help thanks for listening. God bless

@Tmass, sorry to hear about your dad. Can you say what medications your mom has exactly (you did not list them)? Also, did he take any over the counter products for a cold? That is really too bad that they are not releasing the results or providing any termination paperwork. Kinda suspicious. He should really think about meeting with a lawyer to see if he could file a wrongful termination suit. Please let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much for your concern, mom is taking tizanidine, xanax, tyl 3, metoprolol, amitriptine, ibuprofen, gabapentin, fentanyl patches, promethazine, vitamin e, ambien, topiramate, lisinopril, rantadine, paxil, and insulin injection, also uses a combivent inhaler.

Hey @t, thanks for sharing those details. Out of all those meds would you happen to know if your dad took any of them? No judgement either way, just wondering if that could be what triggered the result?

My step mom had a urine test come back as inconclusive but with methamphetamine and she doesn't take anything but her pain meds morphine 60mg oxycodone 10mg, Gabapentin 800mg and had taking some Claritin D. Her doctor did a procedure where they burn the nerves in the back and she hasn't had a drug test in 4 months, gave norcos to her and then 2 days later she calls the doctor's office and a new nurse (which they had new help every month) informs her that she had an inconclusive test for methamphetamine come back and the doctor will no longer see her. And she is left with one side of her nerves burned and she has had 2 prior back surgeries and possibly a 3rd. Now my question is how can the doctor keep seeing her for 4 months giving her norcos and doing a procedure on her if he has proof she had a inconclusive test for methamphetamine which she never signed any paper when she takes the U/A's and still treat her then drop her? And is there anything she can do?

Will I test positive for anything after taking Claritin-d 24hr.? I'm on probation and I take a urine test on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. My allergies are horrible right now and I needed to take something. Should I be worried about anything?
