Chronic Anxiety Disorder Individual Desperate For Xanax In Pennsylvania

Updated

Hello, I have suffered from severe anxiety all my life and is only getting worse as I get older. I was put on Xanax when I was younger and took them for over 15 years. My doctor retired leaving me to switch to another doctor but I can’t find not one to prescribe me Xanax or any benzodiazepine for that matter! I feel like they are toying with my life. My anxiety is so debilitating that I am suffering tremendously. I have no quality of life and am having other health issues now stemming from my anxiety. I am desperate! Short of self medicating, idk what else to do! Please help! I am located in Allentown Pennsylvania. Thank you

This website might be able to help you out finding a provider. You need to keep trying, perhaps find an older Doctor. My Doc is 75 and is really good, spend over an hour with patients. He does a whole show, especially when it comes to 3 D Movies

Seems that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has some very strong views on Benzodiazepine treatments which should not last over 14 days, or be used for a Chronic condition.

This is an increasing problem and it will be very hard to find a doctor who will. In the old days doctors used to keep patients on benzos long term. So now you’re seeing people who’ve been on them for decades, but since now we know how horrible long term benzos are for you (with new info that’s come out since) they are massively cutting down on it. I just tapered very slowly

Are you trying to get these meds from a GP/PCP or a psychiatrist? The PCPs don’t want to do it, if you find a psychiatrist or a psychiatric nurse practitioner and you have records showing you have been prescribed these medications there shouldn’t be a problem.

Re: EDDY (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Good information, but how depressing! Their suggested first line of treatment (CBT) doesn’t work with neurodivergent people, so if that won’t help people like me with ADHD and anxiety, then it says non pharma treatments but FAILS TO LIST THEM, then SSRIs, which CAUSE anxiety in people with plenty of serotonin.
So I guess people in PA w ADHD and anxiety are just screwed?
It’s so cruel. Anxiety is a chronic condition for some and honestly having a benzo dependence would be less detrimental to my health and quality of life than living in a chronic state of anxiety and insomnia.
I understand if they don’t want to keep increasing doses in people who need more more more but I have had a prescription for 0.25 mg xanax for years now & I don’t have a tolerance. There may have been short times over the years where I had to take then daily to get by, but this most recent bottle replaced a bottle that expired before I finished it. So years into taking them I didn’t even take 30 in a year.
They don’t even give people a chance, when there’s no reason to assume everyone is going to abuse meds.
I hate it here. Do countries with universal healthcare face this abuse?

Re: Optimistic (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Correct!!! I also suffer from add and severe anxiety. The doctors basically make me pick one medication or the other. Like “you can have adderall but not benzos” and vice versa. That’s been my experience anyway. But then I’ll meet people who are prescribed both. I feel like by the time I find said doctor, if at all, it’ll be too late. This is the most absurd type of treatment when it comes to people like me. I have seen pcps who have prescribed me controlled medications and I’m hoping my current pcp will consider giving them to me now. She wouldn’t before bc I was on suboxone. Now that I’m not, I’m praying she’ll give them to me. Short of going from dr to dr, I am at a loss.

You didn't mention Adderall & Suboxone in your first post? Doctors no longer, and for good reason feel free prescribing certain combinations of medicine

Re: Optimistic (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

We have the people that abused them to thank for that and the government wants to control your every aspect. Not to mention they didn't care they didn't understand what people with chronic anxiety go through and I'm not going to take something that builds up into my system I know it I can take I'm very sensitive to medication I know they're doctors but they're not scientists and pharmacists aren't doctors I don't understand why they have a say and if you can get your script filled or not this is very absurd and a horrible thing to have to go through. I do know someone that lives in Virginia the doctor give Zanny bars to their dog and the dog really don't need them it's just when company comes the dog gets a little rambunctious isn't that crazy a dog can get anxiety medicine the people that can't function properly can't get it I am not a depressed person that if they keep this up I think I'm going to become depressed

Re: Optimistic (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

That's because pharmacists are pieces of blank blank blank and like to play doctor when they only have to go to school for a year I don't understand never will understand how a pharmacist can have the say and if you get your medication filled or not it's hard enough to get a doctor to prescribe what you need not alone a pharmacist to fill it or that will fill it

Re: Info (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Some people should be tapered off but that's not right to classify everyone in that class because like me my mother a few friends that I know cannot be taken off of anxiety medications it's a disorder that never goes away there's things that you can do in your life that make it a little better but never go away and panic attacks. That's like saying taken away anxiety medication from our vets that fought for our country how outrageous for someone to say. It's negligence in ignorance especially these young doctors that have no clue about this

Re: EDDY (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Pennsylvania is one of the worst states and it's horrible because I live in it even though I consider myself a Maryland resident I'm on the Maryland PA border Pennsylvania has the most outrageous laws and restrictions. It's so outrageous I can't put it into words especially on the internet lol I mean they didn't want to give anxiety medication out there is an alternative it's called marijuana but yet they don't even want to do that. They do not care about anything except for getting narcotics off the street when they need to worry about getting methamphetamines off the street. That is what's ruining this country and dumb kids that like to mix medications and make it harder on people that actually need them

Re: Jojo (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

You just described me to a T! How does anyone, especially doctors, expect us to have any quality of life if this is what our lives consist of? This is the opposite of treatment! It’s more like teasing and torture! Or maybe it’s a power thing. They waive that pen and pad in our face like a human teasing a dog with treats. “I could give you this medication that you need for your anxiety disorder but guess what, I’m not going to!” Absolutely absurd and inhuman!

Re: EDDY (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

I am not on suboxone any longer. The adderall is a very low dose. That was my main reason for getting off the suboxone. They don’t like prescribing benzodiazepines with suboxone(even tho I know many doctors that have). They had me under the impression that if I got off the suboxone, they could give me a benzo. So far, nothing!

Re: Optimistic (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I am literally trying any doctor I come across. Obviously, I know I’d probably have a better chance at a psychiatrist but I have been prescribed controlled medications by pcps also.

Almost all PA doctors will not prescribe due to addiction. I know being on them & then it just comes to a halt you are at a high risk to have seizures when stopping Benzo’s that is the most important thing that most doctors know. I also highly recommend Medical marijuana, works great for anxiety. You don’t have to smoke it either. I know it is not covered by insurance but it is an alternative that works just as well.

Re: Info (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for your info, Info. Very true in what you wrote. I feel once Benzo users are cut off as a group, (and it will happen), they will suffer like nobody's seen suffering before. It will be misdiagnosed & misunderstood drug. I, too, would like to discontinue use soon, congrats on stopping these correctly, I didn't and almost died, so they were telling me at the Hospital. My great older Doctor seems to have more problems writing for Soma , and not the first Doctor that felt more comfortable writing for Xanax. Don't the Doctors have a clue on the stuff they prescribe?

Re: Jennifer (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

It’s not right that they are letting us suffer like this! Especially when it was first given to us for this exact condition and now, when we need it the most, they won’t give it to us. I know it’s bc of what happened with the opiate epidemic. So now they’re cutting people off and cutting back on prescribing them. And we’re the unfortunate ones. We are collateral damage! I can’t even begin to understand how we are just left to suffer and have no quality of life! Short of either self medicating or getting lucky enough to eventually find a doctor(if it’s not already too late), I’m sad to say I don’t think we have any other options.

Re: Tiredofbeinginpain (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Any kind of marijuana makes my anxiety worse! I never liked it. Of course it’d be my luck that the one thing I could get with no problem that helps millions of Americans, does the opposite for me. I feel cursed!! And yes, I also believe ever since the opiate epidemic came to light, they don’t want a repeat with the benzodiazepines. So therefore, they’re cutting people off and not prescribing them like they used to.
