Is it possible to intentionally tear my rotator cuff? ## Hi spam, From what I understand, rotator cuff tears can occur in a number of different ways. However if you're going to intentionally inflict this upon yourself then what's the point?; as it's probably going to be a very painful experience. A couple "unintentional" scenarios may be due to falling on your arm while it's fully extended and stretched out, or even from a sudden jerking motion as a result of trying to lift something heavy. It could also happen slowly over time, but I suppose you would need to have it examined first in order to better determine the root cause. Why would you want to harm yourself anyways? It just doesn't make sense. If you need an adrenaline rush, there's safer ways to get...

Can you take hydrocodon in the weeks leading up to rotator cuff surgery ## Hello, Al! How are you? What instructions were you provided regarding taking it? Many people do, but the surgeon sometimes has them stop taking it a few days before surgery, though stopping weeks ahead of time isn't usually necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Had rotator cuff surgery, been unable to take ANY medication at all without breaking out in hives severely! Any advice is welcome! ## Hello, Gene! How are you? I am sorry about the problem you're experiencing. What medications have you already tried? Did you have any known allergies prior to your surgery? As reported by the FDA, hives are usually a symptom of an allergic reaction, you may also experience others, such as swelling, dizziness, and trouble breathing.

My mother is 74 yrs old. Had rotator cuff surgery 4 days ago. Had to take her to the ER on day two. There they gave her an IM Dilaudid shot and sent her home. Called the doctor on call the next day and ask if they could admit her for pain management, he proceeded to tell me that the insurance would not pay for it. Post-op surgery they gave her Percocet 7.5/325 1-2 every 4-6 hours for pain. To make a long story short. Two was too strong so she had the 5-325 and took two every four hours and that would help her pain level which would be tolerable at 5. This is 3900mg of tylenol. Too much in only 24 hours. So this is why I am asking if you can take the Percocet 7.5/325 every 3 hours? ## Hello, Debbie! How is your mom doing? Since this is a narcotic, the FDA warns that it carries the risk o...

I'm having shoulder surgery on feb. 20th on my rotator cuff. What can I take for pain right now for sciatic nerve and shoulder surgery I had done in october? ## Hi Deborrah, Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I realize that your surgery may have already taken place seeing as it's now the 27th of Feb. Did you manage to find anything to use for the pain since you last posted? Personally, I think it's imperative to discuss potential treatment options with the surgeon and/or anesthesiologist in order to play it safe; since whatever they administer during the operation could interact with whatever it is you may be taking. I know if it were me in this position, I'd probably turn to medical cannabis and/or kratom for relief, but I cannot say what will or wont work for you and y...

I have been on 20mg of oxycontin and 10mg of oxycodone for pain and I had rotator cuff surgery 5 weeks ago. I thought I'd cut back on the meds and experienced the withdrawals. Now I'm not sure what to do? I need the pain meds for my physical therapy so going off them isn't possible although I think I'm tolerant and it hardly works for my pain after p.t. I'm seeing my pain management Dr. on Wednesday and I'm not sure what I should do? Ask for help cutting back, increase the dose but not 3 times daily? I just don't know? . ## Hello, Robin! How are you? I'd suggest just discussing the problem with your PM doctor and let them present ideas for solutions, such as a dosage increase or medication change. Doing it that way helps prevent them from viewing you as a...

I was given dilaudid a year ago for rotator cuff surgery. My physical therapy was an incredibly challenging recovery with pain meds required and the vicadin was not enough. I have some leftover 4 mg of the dilaudid. Theoretically, and statistically it is recommended to throw out all unused pain medications. I am mindful not to take it daily. I have no side effects and no desire to take it on a daily basis. I have tried clonapin and ativan for anxiety and they feel most helpful as a sleeping aid. With my occasional (2 to 4 times a week) one 4 mg dilaudid, I feel relaxed, calm and incredibly productive. But I also feel like maybe I am an addict (in denial) and need to check myself into a rehab. In all honestly I have tried anti-depressants and the anxiety meds listed above and dilaudid do...

My doctor subscribed Lyrica for my RSD (CRPS) 10 mos ago. I had shoulder rotator cuff repair, clavider bone removed last May. 4 or 5 nerve blocks; and carpal tunnel surgery this past Jan. (Lots of pain). It works wonders for my severe pain. Does have side effect for weight gain, but that's ok for me since I have a small frame. It relieves my pain. I am not able to work, but I do get great pain relief. I take 600mg a day. ## i need more info on this pill. i already weigh 232 ## hi im mark I have diabetes and shingles worst luck I also have back probs and old slit disc now the doctor put me on tramadol for over 4 years just found out that liver levels are low.. one doc said oh that's down to the drink?? from ten years ago?? I have been noticing the doctors prescribing me 180 oxy blue 30's & 60 oxy brown 30's.. They are not understanding the severe pain just to take a shower & sit doe s to me. I heard there is a few Drs. in Delaware where im planning on moving to, but if someone can help me please I would appreciate it..

Hello Iv had a torn Achilles in the past and other sports related injuries. I'm having rotator cuff surgery in a week and the doctor won't prescribe me the oxycodone 10's until the date of surgery. I'm in decent pain how many Tylenol 4's can I take at a single time to some what match the oxycodone 10's that helped before to try and get some relief thanks in advance ## Hi George, Converting pain meds is an iffy subject, because conversion charts are merely just a guide and results can vary greatly from one individual to another based on cross tolerance levels and several other underlying personal factors. However, just to give you a ball park figure, it has been speculated/rumored that 10mg of Oxycodone equates to about 90mg of Codeine. Tylenol #4 contains 300mgs ...

I have been taking Zaldiar (paracetamol, tramadol) twice a day for about a week as a pain killer for a partial tear of my shoulder's rotator cuff condition; everytime I took the pill I would feel a little dizzy, but it wasn't really that bad and it did help to lessen the pain; however since yesterday I started feeling pretty strange and I blamed it on the pill, so I stopped taking it, and the pain came back, it turned out that what I really have now is an UTI, therefore while waiting for the culture due on wednesday, I gave been given Spasmo Urolong; since the pain for my shoulder condition is back I was wondering if I could take both meds; wouldn't there be side effects by taking both?

I was prescribed 10/325 Hydrocodone, and 5/325 Oxycodone. Which is stronger for pain after rotator cuff surgery? Neither is doing much good right now. ## ask if you can take vistril with the hydrocodone it will make it stronger and ease your belly so you don't get sick ## In those dosages, they are probably about equal, strength wise. ## To me the hydro/Tylenol & oxy/Tylenol gives the same relief. I've been on both to me anytime they have Tylenol or ibuprofen did nothing for my pain. Dr put me on oxycodone 10mg 6xs a day that was no more do to deaths related to ODS. which is stronger hydroco/acetamin 5-500 or Hydroco 10-500mg? Is it the same as Vicadin? I have a large tear in my rotator cuff. I just was given the 5-500mg. They told me it was Vicadin at the doctors office. I already had a bottle mostly untouched of the 10-55 because a doctor seemed worried that it was addictive and gave me tramadol which I can't say touches the pain. ## The one with the higher amount of the Hydrocodone is stronger, since it is the narcotic and the Acetminophen just helps it to work better. Both are generics for Vicodin, Norco or Lortab. You can learn more Vicodin details here. Another note that needs to be added here is that as of 2013, the FDA has made a request that all manufacturers lower the amount of Acetaminophen in these combination prescription products ...

I have been taking oxycodone every six hours for almost two years for pinched nerves in my neck, arthritis, my lower back, tendinitis, rotator cuff in both arms and meralgia paresthetica in both thighs, but i find it's not really helping like i thought it would. The doctor says i probably need something stronger and maybe even see a pain management doctor but he cant prescribe anything stronger. ## There are higher doses of Oxycodone available without the Acetaminophen, but yes, you would most likely need to see a pain management specialist to see if they can prescribe it for you. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications?

I am worried about how sick I can expect to be. I have Heart Arithymia and am worry about if I will get sick enough to trigger atril-fibrilation. ## Have you consulted your doctor? That's a lot of pills to take in such a short period of time and taking your medical condition under consideration, yes you could end up experiencing some serious ill effects, but only your doctor is going to be able to really help you in this matter.

VA hospitals took hydrocodone/oxycodone off their prescription list. I have 4 degenerative discs in my neck. Also constant shoulder/arm pain due to rotator cuff tears on both arms. Is there really a pharmacy out there or doctor to give my a pain /depressant pill. I live in middle west Florida. Thank you ## You will need to be treated in the private sector. You may want to check and verify in writting that the VA has taken those meds off of their prescription list. There are others who are being prescribed them. ## Thank you BL

I have been taking hydrocodone + acetaminophen 10/325 for several months (BEFORE and AFTER spinal surgery three months ago). I now am facing another surgery for a torn rotator cuff; so while my back pain was relieved by the surgery, I'm still on the pain med for a very painful arm and shoulder. I have developed contact dermatitis on my scalp and back and blame the med for causing this side effect. I need to try an alternative pain med. Suggestions? ## There are several others you can try, such as Oxycodone with Acetaminophen, or both of them by themselves without the Acetaminophen, you could also try Morphine, Dilaudid, or Opana. I am not your PCP, so I can't say which one might be right for you, but these are some options you can ask about. The FDA warns that this medications c...

Over the past several months I have been prescribed many different pain meds, anti inflamatory meds and muscle relaxer due to rotator cuff surgery. All were purchased with prescription from CVS & Target Pharmacy. After sorting out in weekly med tray, I can't identify a round white pill with no markings or score on either side. Could this be a generic form of percocet? ## In the U.S. all prescription tablets have to have some type of unique imprint on them to enable their identification, in case of emergency. Since Percocet is a prescription only medication, all of them, including the generics have some type of marking on the tablets. Did you purchase anything else recently? Such as an over the counter product? They are not regulated like prescription medications and are not requ...
