I have been on large doses of opioid pain medicine for 8 years. My conditions require it for me to walk and do anything out of bed. Now they are stopping it. I'm not ready to lay down the last couple years of my life, I want to spend it standing. Opioids have been used over 4000 years and a very smart Indian rheumatologist told me they have killed less people than most of the man made pharmaceuticals. My dose is high, but never needed changed. I really need a Pittsburgh doctor that can help me with the next 2 years of my life. I would placate the doctors and just go to bed, but I have 2 perfect boys. Unfortunately my youngest, 16, started having epilepsy in October. He needs me to get through this. His straight As are slipping, and he needs me up. He brought his computer in my room, ...

Hello!!! This is a question for my mother, not me. She doesn't know how to use 'Net. She is in her late 40's and has horrible anxiety, and chronic pain [endo, back problems, cervix problems, fibroid, currently has sprained/bruised rib, and her uterus is backwards from giving birth to me, good job, me!] She was on oxycodone 7.5 but she lost one of her pain specialists because they accused her of "stealing" a bottle of oxys that were supposed to be for her upcoming surgery [hysterectomy] but we had problems w/insurance. They wouldn't cover the surgery but she had already filled the pills, so they said she stole them even though she said she'd give them back, but they said no, you shouldn't have filled them in the first place. So she got kicked out. Anyways,...

Hello. I'm in severe pain. Need doctors from Youngstown Ohio Canton Akron + Cleveland + western Pa. My doctor got arrested now I'm left with no doctor. Anyone know where I could go? Please let me know. Thank you. ## May I ask the name of the Dr you were seeing? I don't think I'm supposed to drop names here but I'd be happy to give you names of those located here. You can very likely do a Google search for pain managers in the area. Why not have your pcp refer you somewhere? You're going to need some kind of referral there's no question of that. They don't make appointments for new patients over the phone without a faxed referral and very likely will request the records come from the referring Dr. Why? They don't trust that the patient hasn't made ...

I am 52 I have been in sever lower back pain with pain radiating down my legs for two years now have taken over counter med and seen nurse practioners most doctors will not even seen you now days need any kind help. ice daily and chiropractor made it worst. ## I had the begginings of spinal stenosis and arthritis in the sacroiliac area. Opioids have been the least of all evils for pain relief. We have tried with various anti inflammatories. Those wreaked havoc on my kidneys. I was just informed by my PCP that this will be the last month she can help me with my monthly opioids. I am scared to death and sick at my stomach. I have suffered from depression in the past and this type of pain killer gave me a sense of normalcy. She wants to refer me to a pain clinic. I have heard and read horr...

I have sciatic nerve issues that literally shoot from my hip/back down to my foot. My Dr will only give me an anti-inflammatory with tramadol which does nothing. I need to find a doctor that will give me some relief with pain meds. ## I'm very sorry that you're in pain. What type of doctor have you been seeing? Due to the new directives set forth by the DEA last year, most general practitioners are very reluctant to prescribe controlled substances, anymore. Thus, you'll likely need to see a pain management specialist. Tramadol, however, is classified by the FDA as an opioid now, so it does carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there a chance your current doctor could refer you to ...

Hello, I am 31 yrs old. I have had 2 back surgeries. The last was a spinal fusion of my lower back in 2012. I have 6 bolts and two rods in my back. Lortab 10 mg does not help at all. I can not do anything due to so much pain in my entire back, and down my right leg. I was given a Roxicodone 30 mg and all my pain was gone for about 8 hours. ## David, Sorry to hear about the pain your in but like myself chronic pain when it involves issues of the back postoperatively most doctors are Leary to Rx potent opiates/opioids for long term pain control.actually your fortunate to have access to hydrocodone.sadly most docs aren't even willing to prescribe that 5 years post surgical procedure as I believe you stated. The only suggestion I can make is to honestly share your issues with a specialis...

How long do I need to be off Contrave prior to having a significant orthopedic procedure which I know I will need opioid pain meds for after? ## Hi Cherlyn, The half life of Contrave's active ingredient 'Naltrexone' and its metabolite (naltrexol) are reported to be about 4 hours and 13 min. However for the simplicity of keeping track of time, I'd probably just average it at 4 hours. And you'd probably want to double check with your doctor/surgeon on this - but I've heard from some medical professionals that it can take up to 3-5 half lives for a medication to leave your system. IF this really is the case (and I know everyone is different), 5 half-lives for Naltrexone would add up to 20 hours (or pretty much a full a day). 4 hours is a relatively quick half-life c...

I am seeking help in finding a good physician, either pain specialty, internal or general medicine, for my husband. I have searched online for hours, day after day and just cannot make heads or tails with all of the controversy about opioids. We need help. My husband and I moved here (Houston suburb) this year, leaving behind his PCP of 8 yrs. She handled every issue including intractable pain stemming from back surgery. Being diabetic with nerve pain and hypertensive, well around we go... Pain causes his BP to rise which in turn causes more problems. He has been under VA care but the process is ridiculously slow. I am becoming concerned over his quality of life as the change is significant. We have records, imaging, medication history, etc. Any and all help would be so appreciated.

Does anyone know of any doctors in the Chicago area currently prescribing low doses of opioid pain medications? Something like 10-325 Norcos, 20mg-30mg oxycodone IR, 15mg-30mg MSIR or even Suboxone? I broke my back over a decade ago. I recently herniated another disc at L4 and am experiencing terrible pain that shoots all the way down my left leg and into my foot. I’ve been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and am also experiencing narrowing of the spine at L4, L5. I used to be on tons of these kind of medications and was weaned down on my own choice, but the pain has become unbearable and I need to be able to work. I know Suboxone helps with pain as well and is extremely helpful in preventing cravings for higher doses of opioids. I would be happy to even be taking Suboxone...

I’ve been on and off pain meds for many years. I just moved to Fort Smith, Ar and need a doctor who will prescribe me pain meds without acetaminophen. Ones like morphine, OxyContin, or dilaudid. I know with the opioid epidemic doctors are more reluctant than ever to prescribe these drugs, but I need them and don’t want to “doctor shop”. Any recommendations please?

Hello. I'm a stage 4 cancer patient that's been dealing with criminal chronic pain for many years now with tons of surgeries. I had two doctors that retired here in Sacramento both for about five years before they retired and they prescribed me the medications that I needed for pain back then and they were my primary care doctors. It seems now it's almost impossible with the so-called opioid crisis and how the doctors I had always knew that I would have to take medication for the rest of my life at some level even if lessened? My problem and I hope someone out there can help me? The problem is now I can't find a doctor of any kind even though I have a primary care doctor and admits I need pain medication will not fill any of my medications from the past so I have no qual...

I need help. I'm getting a vivitrol shot in 2 days. I have taken opioids up until last night. I want information from anyone that has actually taken opioids up until around 65 hours before their shot, and if so, what were the side effects? Please I need help. I'm scared but I also need the shot. ## Yes, you need to be in full withdrawal, before getting the shot, or there is a risk of it putting you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals, which may include seizures, according to NIH warnings. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. It would be best to make sure your doctor is aware of the last time you took opiates, to make sure it is safe for you to be given this shot. Are you on any other medications? ## Hi, i don't know much about viv...

Hello. I'm needing to take tramadol & co-codamol, but have bad constipation. Any thoughts on sticking to tramadol only maybe? Best wishes. ## You can discuss that option with your doctor, it really depends on what works best for you to alleviate your pain. However, in many cases, opioid related constipation can be alleviated by just increasing ones fiber intake through foods, or a fiber supplement. Along with the risk of being habit forming, these medications may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## You can get an over the counter stool softener or ask your doctor to prescribe one and make sure you are drinking lots of water. That should alleviate your constipation.

So lately I've been seeing A LOT of people saying how they have changed the strength and color and pharmaceutical brand of their 10mg Percocet from the good yellow ones that worked great to now these white ones that are pure garbage! Luckily I don't get those I get oxycodone 30mg IR and oxymorphone 30mg ER witch have yet to be tampered with. Yes I know it's only a matter of time before they get to changing those to. Although I have been hearing about them supposedly changing them 7yrs ago to be tamper proof from my pain doctor and so far thank GOD they haven't touched those yet. The government is putting pressure on the Pharmaceutical companies and or are in bed with them to change the formula to make them weaker and or not work at all even as far as a placebo. They thin...

I need to know what opioid analgesics and benzodiazepines are prescribed in india as I am on 120mg OxyNorm, 8mg clonazepam, 6mg Xanax per day and 24 to 36mg bromazepam as required ## Desperately seeking help / advice for dealing with severe chronic pain. ## Zaborav, for countries other than the U.S. and Canada, it is really hard to find a comprehensive list of their approved medications, because they generally don't regulate them as strictly. However, I can tell you that they do have equivalents, from what I have seen for most of the medications you are taking. You'll just have to discuss with a doctor or pharmacist there to see if they have the same ones or if you have to switch to something different, but in the same class.
