Pill Shortage Opana Percocet Ect
(Newest replies first)

Updated

To all suffering the Opana, Percocet, ect pill shortage her is some valuable information. Endo Pharm is the maker of these drugs and thier website endo.com is addressing this nationwide shortage also here is there phone number 1 800 462 3636. They are assisting patience in locating a pharmacy near you by giving them some basic information such as your zip code. They will try to help you locate a pharm who has the drug still instock. Make sure when you call that your script can be fill and you have several zip codes to give them because thier search is only a 10 mile radius of the zip code you give them. You can only call three times within a month. According to Endo the shortage is due to mispackaging wrong pills in wrong bottles and broken pieces in otc bottles. My friends believe if this were the case they would put it on the new. Also my friends believe when they start shipping to pharmacy;s again it will be the new Opana formulated, abuse proof. Time will tell.

Your pharmacy should be able to order the medication for you, it might take a few days to get. I live in MD. We have CVS stores. They will order the meds if it is not in stock.

I have moved out of the big city to a very small town 3 hours from where my Dr is. How do I go about finding a p.m dr that actually believes in meds instead of constant surgery or only prescribe only tramadol and lyrica ? I dont want people to look down on me. I live in a very small Oklahoma town but only 60 miles from Joplin Mo.

I am two days without my Opana medication and the pain in becoming unbearable.I have a brain tumor called a traumatic neuroma; where a dentist accidentally severed my main cranial nerve injected a 10 hour nerve block.,Becuase of my low immune system, I know two types pf shingles: the regular and herpies zoster that creates huge welts across mt forehead, in my inner ears, eyes. For the past 6-8 months it has been going internally into my inner hears and head (meningitis). Because of the severed cranial nerve, my teeth have dies from the roots down. The turn black and fell out. I only have 7 teeth left. No ENT surgeon will touch them for fear of hitting the tumor and bleeding out, The only thing that keeps my sanity in check is the medication Opana and no it is unavailable to me. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative med that might help in the same wa?

Medicare has not stopped covering oxycodone, I am on medicare and just filled mine and medicare covered it. Also, a pharmacy is only allotted to fill a certain number of pills each month then has to just turn them away, this is the amount they were approved by the DEA/FDA. I forgot what it's called, and don't have time to look it up right now(CVS TOLD ME THIS plus I googled it and found it) but seems the end of the month Walgreen's has them, the first of the month they have to stop. I flip flop back and forth, CVS and Walgreens. Have had to go to Target, but it's not going to get much better, with the fact that the 10/650s were removed from dispensory. Or they quit making them. So after that, the drs. started putting everyone that was on these, to the 10-325's which has caused all this delema for everyone. It's not going to get any better unless each pharmacy files to have this total pill count increased and their not going to do it, because it's not going to get approved. This is the governments way of trying to get people off pain medications. In other words, their saying screw you...So I'll just continue to call each month and all pharmacies do tell me if they have them or not, without me having to go up there and show them my script.

When trying to locate a pharmacy in my area, I had to take in the actual Rx paper before she would even tell me anything, and then would not contact any of the other 6 Walgreen stores in a 15 miles radius,

Sucks

Thank you about a week too late, but I am glad I am not alone. Medicare quit paying for Exalgo and hydrocodone and put me on Opana and oxymorphone. I was going to question the opiate equivalent issue only, but this is a great way to start. I was given my first Rx for Opana ER 30mg and 10mg oxymorphone 120ct on Thursday early morning. Three pharmacies later, a Walgreen could take the oxymorphone but I will wait until (the earliest) Tuesday for the time-released.

Comparing prices is absurd, its more expensive to change the meds that took months to work through strengths, metabolic peaks and flows, injuries, and simply getting to know the medication. Now I am feeling stuck in Mobile with the Memphis Blues again.

We had already left Kroeger over their new standardized Washington University Opiate maximum chart, I was "8" over the 120 mg morphine equivalent mandate. So 10 years of one pharamacy behind us, we walk into Target with the new Opana and hydromorph Rx. "Oh, just Tuesday we had a meeting and changed our policy so that before we fill a Level II script, we must call the prescribing physician.

I live rurally and go to a clinic that serves many. My doc checks his email once a week and his messages less often.

If I hadn't made an earlier appointment, I would be in the ER by tomorrow. The hydromorphone is working well and I have enough Exalgo to get me through until Thursday, A very unusual month for me.

So: where's the best place to ask my opiate equivalency question? (EG 8mg Dilaudid = ??mg hydromorphone.

Frst time here. Thanks for the topic.

i feel bad about all this ---
I went through this with the fentanyl last year n it was horrible ----

I just want to help anyone that feels any difference from a 10/325 or a 10/650 or a 10/anything ?????? it all has the same true pain med inside -- yes the acetaminophen (the second # ) can be supplemented by any bottle of tylenol for $1.75 -- add the pill to the 10/325 -- yet remember the danger that acetaminophen is just starting to be seen -- please try and get off any of it -- try to get oxy IR --- ZERO acetemin ???? if u need it then ad yourself -- its that simple --

Wow! This is extremely good news! I'm in Slidell but, my CVS pharmacy has been calling all the pharmacies, in New Orleans, Slidell and the Mandeville/Covington area as well as all points in between. This is the second month my husband has had to accept Hydrocodon10-325 instead of the Percocet10-325 he has been on, every four hours, for the previous 18+ months. His condition is chronic with no chance for improvement. Needless to say, hydrocodon is not nearly as effective of a pain killer. I also, am a former cancer patient and recovering from two, fairly extensive, recent surgeries. My surgeon doesn't prescribe stronger than Percocet 7.5-325 however, that strength, as well as the 5-325 are out of stock as well. Would it be too intrusive for me to ask which New Orleans pharmacy was able to fill your prescription? Or, if you prefer, you can email me privately with the information. I would greatly appreciate it!
*on a slightly different note, our pharmacist and physicians have said that one of the main Percocet manufacturers has thrown in the towel at the same time this medication is/has been reformulated...thus creating this huge shortage*
Personally, I am supposed to be setting a date,in Feb.,to have a mandable resection. Yet another huge surgery. Honestly, I don't feel comfortable scheduling anything, that is going to require pain management, before these pharmaceutical issues are resolved.
Wishing everyone the very best of luck with this craziness and a Very Happy New Year!

There is a shortage across the US for percocet's and because of the new drug laws, the strongest percocet that anyone can get is the 10/325. When you've taken the 10/650 for years and your swapped down to the 10/325, I'll tell you these do nothing. I mean I took 4 of the 10/650 which is still under the 4000 mg of Acetaminophen so I don't get the war against allowing people to be prescribed this strength. Anyway, the makers of Percocet has known for months and months to start mass producing the 10/325 since this law was passed almost a year ago, knowing that in November and December when doctors started changing the strength that it would cause a shortage, I don't get why they wait till the middle of December before realizing Oh crap, we have a problem and then to blame it on an error in packaging. Yep smells like something else going on here.

Just wanted to say after running everywhere I found a walmart the nezt town over to fill my percocet. My dr cant tell me of any local pharmacies that may have them and he wont change my meds. After finally finding them tohave him write another script he requires the ppharmacist to fax him the script date and date they were filled. Now this has the pharmacist upset as he dont have time to do what the Dr can look up himself so he is also upset and told me not to use that pharmacy anymore. Its so difficult to find a pain dr and my regular dr wont even write my script for ativan anymore. He says get it thru my pain Dr. What is going on with these drs anymore? It worries me as spots have been found on my lung and liver which is possibly cancer. Im sick about this

Just spoke to Linda at end and she was not aware of a percocet shortage. She also said that fda had mandated
for them to no longer prescribe anything with acetaminophen higher than 325 mg. As soon as I receive more info I'll report back.

There is also a shortage on percocet 10 in the Oklahoma city area. I went to walgreens who said they had called every pharmacy even outside of just walgreens and couldn't find any.

Obarka, don't let people who think they know everything and feel the right to pass judgement on total strangers get you down. Have you tried contacting your insurance provider and asking them for a list of pharmacies that may stick your meds? If not, you could call your doctor and ask for a schedule 3 substitute for now, just for the time being while you search for the medication you need. I feel for you and wish you good luck!

Brim, I totally agree with you. I was referred to this page because of a problem I'm having in Florida with getting Percocet 10/325 written prescriptions filled. Timmy2, your response made me feel guilty for being someone with legitimate pain and a legitimate prescription who has been sent scurrying from pharmacy to pharmacy due to, well, God knows what? Is there a state or national attempt being made to regulate or restrict the use of narcotic pain meds? If so, how do we find out if not by sharing our experiences in forums like this to see if there is an answer out there. You are right that the pharmacies cannot tell you over the phone whether they have specific drugs, and I can understand (barely) the logic of this restriction. I'm not so much interested in patient advocacy, Timmy, as I am in getting a legitimate answer to a legitimate question. I have been on pain meds for years, and this shortage is new, at least in South Florida. If someone wants to know why, this would seem to a legitimate place to look for an answer, not a lecture on how to use the internet!
