Oxycontin Op Duration 40mg Cut In Half (Page 2)

Given the protective qualities of the new Oxy OP, if you cut, say a 40mg tab in half, does it still release the drug slowly? I noticed there is no warning label on the bottle saying do not chew. In other words, given the new formulation, if cut in half does it still retain its slow release quality?

Okay. I've been looking every where on the internet for this one simple question. How long does a halved op 40 last. I took half hoping it would only last half of the time it usually last. I am prescribed other medicine suck as talenal 3 300mg/30mg. I have to take it for pain and the op40 does not work for the kind of pain I am experiencing. I'm not interested in hearing a medical term of how long it last. I'm not a doctor so I don't know what "it does not alter the duration means. Can I please get a simple nonmedical term of how long a halved op 40 will last and when it is safe to take my other meds?

sounds like u just have a addiction...I've had 3 back surgeries and never have take even half that amount even before the replaced my 2 disc...Bottom line is the medication will work the same for your body as it always has but it will not always give you the same high due to your tolerance, they don't change people blood pressure meds over time because the build a tolerance right, same concept I've been down same road man and sense ï cut way back my pain has been better....Always having something blocking pain is not really a good thing pain is a gift that we have to know that we are alive with meds blocking pain receptors all time after wearing off are pain levels get worse due to having then always blocked....try backing off them be best thing you ever did

Unfortunately my doctor tests my opiate levels in urine, and has explicitly said no marijuana... And I live in a fully legal state.

I am on oxycontin 40 my. I find if I get it from the hospital where the drug is more potent it works.
However I have gone to my pharmacist and got the same medicine with much reduced potency. I am in the process of ordering more from my pharmacist, but if it doesn't work I will return to the hospital.
Drugs do have different potency and you should bear that in mind and vary you pharmacist until you find one with high potency. Presently I might suffering but I found an old tablet the other day from the hospital and had a pain free day.
Good luck.

I been through 6 failed lower back operations, damage nerve scar tissue on nerve, 5 deteriorated discs in upper back (3 severe), multiple bone spurs and 2 bulging discs in my neck. The 40mg oxycontin SUCKS!!! 1 takes to damn long to work and does NOT LAST 8 HOURS. I'm going to have a talk with my pain doc to see if I can get the 80mg. I can chew 2 40mg and they still do not last long. I've been on the 40s for 6 years and 15mg oxycodone but they only calm my pain down for about 6 hours.

I believe Marajuana with a high level of CBD (cannabinoids) would be your next option. I travel to Colorado to get Medical -- and yes, they can tell you the CBD/THC content. Why not. Way safer than Heroin with less time in prison if caught with it.

I've been in tons of pain for quite awhile, been proscribed anything you can think of!! Since I've gone back to smoking weed I literally take 1/4 of meds..I just wish it was legal..our could have saved my mom's life n I'm sure soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many others..but yes, when it comes to pain, cannabis is what you need..

NEVER cut oxy's in half....NEVER!! your body will always want you to cut it from there on in & would probably need to take 2 or 3 uncut oxy's for your body to feel normal...

I've had the series of 3 epidural injections prior to a lumbar laminectomy with fusion. They were an effective temporary relief for me, but since then I have read some pretty scary things in them in medical journals. Between the technicians (not MDs) allowed to perform the injections into your spinal cord to the FDA's findings on certain drugs approved for it. I was fortunate to not be one of the patients affected by the cases of permanent paralysis, stroke or meningitis.

Sounds like an excuse. Your best bet would be to take your OxyContin as prescribed and your percs as prescribed and get yourself some good marijuana. Marijuana is a good relaxant and helps greatly with pain, thus why states are starting to legalize it because it is safer than any opiate on the market. It grows from the ground, we pick it, dry it, and consume it. Pills, now that is a different story, they are filled with binders and not to mention acetaminophen which taking too much, especially on a daily basis absolutely destroys your liver. If you are in so much pain and your dr will not up your pain meds then it's time to go to another doctor. I wish you the best of luck. Go to Pain Management. Some of them know what they are doing, if you are really in such bad pain try dilaudid 8mg or even better 40MG of Opana. Opana is a long acting pain pill that works wonders for pain, in between the opana take norco (hydrocodone) or percocets (oxycodone). Good luck with everything.

Heroin & marijuana are both illegal... I suggest you try marijuana first before you destroy your life with heroin.

I know. Instant Karma is the best!

Yes. It's homogeneous with the timed release matrix, so half of a 20 would be like taking an op 10.

I know that is the truth about the pain meds but it is hard going thru the process because when you start cutting down your milligrams you feel like you're getting no relief at all. Once your body adapts to the lower amount, it almost feels like it did when you first started taking them which does give some relief again. I never once felt pain free with any of the meds but less is better than nothing at all. I have chronic pain & many health conditions that cause severe pain. I want to stop taking prescription narcotics but I also want to be able to function. So far out of 30 years of debilitating pain, I finally had to seek out some relief. Sadly my medical primary care Dr also dismissed me because he refused to treat anyone taking pain meds. I suffered for over 20 years before taking the advice the orthopedic Dr gave me back then to go to a pain clinic for help from the professionals. He also recommended epidural which I been able to try yet. The office I go to doesn't do them & I don't have insurance because I've been unable to work since 2000. I appreciate being able too read the comments here and learn more about other options. My meds have had to be increased over time also.
I thought more was helping but it
doesn't take but a few times at a higher dose until it doesn't give relief anymore. I have had some generic brands that were very different & much less effective than the other name brands which were very effective. To bad the pharmacy has no way of testing or knowing which brands are of good quality and we just have to take whatever brands they give us. We just hope to get some relief from whatever brand we do get each time they change manufacturers.

That's hilarious, you chastise someone for spelling and grammar, yet you spell grammar wrong.
