Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

My mother has had this medication prescribed 3 months ago for the first time. It was the Nucynta ER 150mg tablet twice a day. She is a Cancer patient. It took two months for the insurance company to approve it because it’s an unusual medication prescribed to patients and also not included in their formulary. After the Pre authorization went through from her insurance, two months after several calls and hard work from her doctor, Walgreens told me that they didn’t have it and could not order it because it was going to be discontinued. However, I found the medication at CVS Pharmacy in the city I live (Allentown, PA). CVS hasn’t had any trouble ordering the medication because it is still on the market. The only thing is that they (CVS) advised me to call at least a week in advance before she is due for her prescription because it takes a few days for them to get it delivered to their pharmacy from their supplier. So, that is what I did this month (November 2017). I called them in advance on 11/16/2017 and they had it available the day they said they will on 11/21/2017.

I called Depomed (866-394-9073); Nucynta ex 100 is still available! They will give you the # of a pharmacy that has it in stock!

My pharmacist told me yesterday 1/14/17 that this med.was manufactured in Porta Rico. Since they were almost wiped off the map in the last two hurricanes down south.I'd say they aren't able to manufacture at this time. Fwiw

Re: John (# 24) Expand Referenced Message

I told my pain mgmt dr I checked would never taje nuycnta again. Its to expensive, to hard to find, and I don't think it's any better than anything else. They prescribe morphine extended release that cost me less than $3 for 30 pills and I think that works better than the Nuycnta

Re: Vero (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

I guess I’ll be caking the number you posted. Tried to fill NuCynta ER and CVS told me it is discontinued. I only have 2 days left and then I’m screwed. Will be calling my Dr tomorrow as well. I’d like to be switched to something that I won’t be having trouble filling. He recently told me OxyContin is being pulled too. Opana has been discontinued. What else is there, that works?

My pain mgmt dr said the owner of the Nucynta manufacturer sold to another and that is creating delays. Seems there are many stories out there. All I get from every pharmacy is that it’s on backorder and has been for a month. I prefer Nucynta ER bc it helps minimize my need for Percocet.

Here is an article about the sale of Nucynta to another company - hopefully they will restore things soon? I’ve been off it for a month because no one has it.

Re: Manda (# 28) Expand Referenced Message

My Dr had me fill with another pharmacy. That pharmacy said that because of the new laws in place this year that CVS is having trouble filling prescription diptions. When I called the manufacturer they confirmed there has been a shortage for a few years but that this has the been the worst yet due to hurricane almost wiping plant off face of earth.
Also, manufacturer gave me another number to call. I guess because of the shortage they have hired a team as medication locators. They found one place that showed having it in stock but when they called to confirm it had been filled. The pharmacy that ended up filling my prescription was a small family owned & operated pharmacy. So definitely call around and try the hospital pharmacies too.

Re: Kiz (# 29) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks. I called the number and multiple independent pharmacies that usually carry it. Everyone is out. However, after 7 weeks off it, my liver enzymes, which had been elevated for years, finally were normal. I think it has to be the Nucynta. So I’m going to talk to my doctor about other options. I appreciate your response though!

Re: Manda (# 30) Expand Referenced Message

I told the doctor never did prescribe me Nucynta again because it was way too expensive once you got to a certain point where the coupons wouldn't kick in and I have good insurance and it was a pain in the neck trying to run around and see who has it when you're in pain that's the last thing you want to do so I just told them to prescribe me something else and they prescribed me Tramadol which is okay but it's not any different than Nuycnta and it only cost about. I really think it doesn't matter because all my pain is in my feet so you can never get away from it but the doctors that prescribe these pain meds aren't in any pain them self so they have illusions that these pain meds are going to solve all your problems and they don't or they're a lot more potent than they really are. Good luck with finding something that might work

Yes, Nucynta has been discontinued. I just found out from my Dr after I couldn’t find a pharmacy to fill my script for it.

Re: Sandy (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

I took U/A's for jobs and doctors and after doing research I found out that unless the U/A is specifically looking for Nucynta (or the actual active ingredient) that the analysis will come back negative. I have been on Nucynta ER 100mg bid for about 6 years and it's always negative. The Percocet I take for breakthrough pain comes up as an Opioid. I confirmed the Nucynta only coming up when specifically being looked for, not only with doctors, but also medical directors I know who work for the labs. Hope this helps, but if your doctor ended your patient relationship based on it being negative, that doctor was not the right doctor to see anyway as they seem to only want to have positive samples as they get more insurance money or something. I had the same thing happen with a pain doctor I was seeing but they abruptly stopped wanting to see me as a patient because I asked questions about things to be informed and he just wanted to deal with “yes sir” type patients. He billed me over $1000 for each office visit to milk my insurance and he never did anything but take a U/A, fill out papers and fill prescriptions. Probably was being watched for high numbers of opioid script writing so people like me who asked questions made him worried that we might ask the “right” questions and he did not want that. Hope you find a much better more professional doctor.

Thank you. I was told the same by my Walgreens. Is it only Walgreens? All these replies cite Walgreens.

Re: Binkiebc (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

Hi there! Sorry I never replied as I did not see the updates to this thread until now (really really late...). So glad that you were able to get help from Depomed. It's a shame that so much incorrect information went around about this and frankly I'm amazed that pharmacies aren't more accountable about the information they are giving out. Frankly, I think most are just busy and so they don't have the time (which isn't really a good excuse when it comes to something as important as dispensing medications) or they just don't bother to verify information at a corporate or pharmacy level. I ended up changing my pharmacy to an independent pharmacy that is capable of ordering prescriptions overnight (despite the volume of meds CVS dispenses, they won't or can't do this) and has free delivery which is just a bonus. I'm much happier with them despite the fact that their hours are more limited, but when that becomes a problem it's usually negated by the fact that they deliver.

Anyway, so glad you were helped by that information. I know what it's like to get stuck between your doctor and a pharmacy that doesn't have time to (or just won't) help you.

Feel well!
