I am in pain SEVERE pain all day every day . And these new pills do not help my pain, oh and i have tried every alternative to control my pain from acupuncture to nerve blocks to cortizone shots. I have tried everything and opiate pain pills are the only thing that allow me to function at all. I wish so bad that arrogant know it all's like u could experience the pain im in for just one day and see if ur not willing to do anything to alleviate the pain. It is because of people like u that make it that much harder for people like me with legitimate pain problems to aquire pain pills. i hope and pray that u suffer from debilitating pain someday and u are denied access to the one thing that can help u

I'm amazed by ppl who feel the need to insult chronic pain sufferers in such forums as if they have nothing else to do w/ their own lives!! Unless you have been in any of the other legitimate poster's shoes , I'd advise you to keep your opinions to yourselves! WE all have our own battles and neither need your approval nor your "Holier than thou" attitude. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY..... "Opinions are like a**holes, Everyone's got one and most all of them stink!"

I appreciate these forums by others who, by no fault of their own, suffer daily just to get out of bed much less truly wish for one hour without severe pain. Shall we continue........

Hi everybody, I just wanted to share my experiences with you, I have been on high dose Oxycontin since 2008 for servere Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy in my feet and too a less extent my fingers, I've been on 200mg a day divided between 80mg morning, 40mg midday and 80mg bedtime, I had been finding that I was needing more and more to get any relief, sometimes I even crushed them up to get some relief, a few months ago my chemist gave me the new formula and at first I didn't really notice any difference, after a short time however I did, they are not as strong (yes the mg's are the same but potency seems less) BUT I discovered they DO last longer, I also found that they gave me very bad constipation, however, after getting used to them I couldn't be happier, my stomach has settled down and I'm less and less looking at my watch waiting for my next dose, I don't feel as tied to them now I feel I'm getting my life back, so too anybody who truly needs these drugs I'd say be patient, give them a chance and let your body adjust, as another bonus even though my doctor has known me for years she doesn't have to worry about me being a closet addict because its obvious they cant be readily abused, and if I have to see a different doctor they don't look at me sideways, give them a chance and you really might see their benefit :)

I hope this helps some of you out there, this is a good drug but can and often is easily abused, hang in there and give them a chance, the formula WONT be changed back nomatter how much you complain, its done now, so if you really need them be thankfull you have them at all

Spyz, wow you make a really good point about the lack of LEGAL recreational drugs, and the possible connection to prescription drug abuse, I haven't heard this theory before but think it's certainly a possibility, the only LEGAL recreational drugs we have are devastating to humans as a whole, those being Alcohol and Tabacco, the most pointless of all drugs (personally I am addicted too Tabacoo so please people don't think I'm hating on anybody!

I would love to reply to ur comment about all these people sounding like junkies. Do you suffer chronic pain? Do u knowwhat it's like to having to hurt day in day outwith very little relief. It takes away ur dignity, desire to go to the mall to shop for a birthday present or Christmas present because I can no longer do any of the above. I have severe scoliosis which I now walk hunched over with my back curved to the left side. It can crush ur heart and lungs. I was a RN for 20 yrs.I can no longer do my job and oh yeah, I got a husband with Esophageal cancer with whom I take care when I can barely move as it is. What you need to do is to think about all these (junkies) as I guess you are including me too. You better thank God above that you got good health and a good back. You just need to shut up and let us try and find a way to lessen the pain. It's people like you the make people like me that are so narrow-minded when you don't know what ur talking about.

Hey I don't know who edits for safety but I was really curious about the way you found to take the nasty coating off of the Oxycontin OP. I went to a different pharmacy to get my last RX filled and got the Purdue brand before I knew that all this mess was happening with the new coating. I have been sick as a dog ever since filling the RX and would like to know how to get the pills to work better since I am stuck with them. If you can write to me directly I would really appreciate it. This is my first time writing on this site but I am really desperate.

You obviously have no medical intelligence at all.. People take these for legitimate reasons. To function Ina daily bases not everyone is an addict, they are seeking relief. Or would you just have them file disability and live off the social security system. Do your research before making such ignorant statements

I cant believe someone would get on this page and call people junkies. Some if us have serious chronic pain and these new oxys arnt working and are making people sick. Also, just because someone would rather insufflate their pills rather than swallow them doesn't make them a junkie neither. People who are in serious pain like the pain to go away fast and dnorting them does that. How dare you get on a page you dont even belong on and tell us all we need detox treatment. Obviously you have no clue whats its like to not be able to get out of the bed and take care of your family because of the pain your in. Please do us all a favor and stay off this page if you cannot relate to our problems.

I am not quite sure what the problem is with those complaining about these TRULY-extended release oxycontins. I am in no way judging your reasons for being displeased with them, but the time-release mechanism is there for a reason. These are prescribed to treat moderate pain for a long period of time.

I have two autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, and I experience severe bouts of pain. Because they are autoimmune, there is waxing and waning of the pain. I am prescribed 15mg instant release oxycodone. I am not constantly in pain, so I'll go days without taking them. But the second I feel flares of intense pain, or I know I need to leave the house for an extended period of time, these will hit the pain fast.

I know that many complaining have conditions in which they suffer constant, intense pain, thus the need for a constant level of oxycodone in the blood stream to feel like you can function. Since these new formulations sound they like either release the drug too slowly to benefit you, why not ask your doctor for either a drug that has a quicker releasing ER system (I think Opana's might be better), or ask for a larger quantity of InstantRelease oxycodones (not percocets, but IR pure oxycodone.....they come in 15 and 30mg strengths). What I do is cut mine into quarters so that all 15 doesn't hit me at once. If my disease in flaring up, I pop a quarter pill and then will pop another one just before I feel the first dose starting to wane. I know this is less convenient and more cumbersome, but it WORKS for those in real pain.

The problem with this solution: if you are someone with a condition that causes chronic pain, but are also prone to associating pain relief with feeling that euphoric high oxy gives, obtaining instant release tablets may end up making your life worse as you may take more than necessary to relieve the pain just to get that high and increase your tolerance more and more. Then you're stuck needing to ask your doc for more and more not just for the high, but because the tolerance has required more drug to get pain relief. It's a slippery and dangerous slope.

Other options for chronic pain relief that is slowly released to deter a habit of chasing a high: fentanyl patches (though some press on the pouch to release the powerful opioid into their system quicker)....it's an option that truly relieves serious pain if you don't have addictive tendencies and the new Oxycontin time release system isn't cutting it for your pain.

Their are many options out there. If Purdue is willing to compromise a rate of drug release that truly allows for those in chronic pain to feel like they can have a functional life for the sake of saving lives of junkies who want to put a ridiculous amount of potent narcotic in their body all at once, that's their prerogative. They may lose sales, but they may avoid law suits and a reputation that they don't care about trying to prevent unnecessary deaths. Talk to your doctor, if he/she does not take you seriously enough as to the level of your pain then find another. But I wouldn't suggest experimenting with getting 80mg of oxy in your system in an instant release fashion. That leads to an immensely quick building of tolerance that may feel good now, but will put you through hell later.

I have been prescribed Roxycodone--Oxycodone 30 mgs. 3 times per day for degenerative disk disease, stenosis, sciatica and fibromyalgia. After taking it for the last 5 years--never more than prescribed--I feel like it's a waste of money to even bother. The only reason it helps the pain is because I hardly ever take the 3 pills a day because they make me sleep and when I sleep I don't feel the pain. It does however, when I wake up from one of these "naps" from the medication, feel so depressed that the day is 1/2 over and I didn't do anything--I mean pay bills, talk on the phone to a friend, etc. I am disabled for other reasons. Could anyone tell me if they do get relief from their pain taking Oxycodone over a period of time, and if they are able to stay awake? One patient in the waiting room told me to consistently take the 3 pills a day and eventually I will build a tolerance against it putting me to sleep. However, it will also build tolerance, like I already know, that the pain relief is not nearly as helpful as when I started taking it. I am sick of living in pain, and having to do my laundry 1/5 of a load at a time since that's all I can handle. I wake up in the morning to go to the bathroom and even if it is 5:00 a.m. I have to stay up from the pain in laying back down again. Does anyone have any help--opinions or whatever--that may help me with this ordeal? I know it's not as bad as some other peoples' problems, but it IS MY PROBLEM, and I feel like I am living the same day over again every day when I wake up--and over and over again.
Thanks to anyone who answers me.

Notta Junkie, I know this post is 4 years old but you have no idea what your talking about. I'm 57 and since 21 I begain suffering back pain.I hand unloaded semi trucks day in and day out. This went on for years. I became a truck driver at age 30. Working 15 to 17 hours a day supporting 3 children. I hauled U.S. mail and didn't have the luxury of stopping and stretching. We moved to Wa state in 1990 and I started driving double tankers. My back getting worse I continued to drive until one day I couldn't push the clutch in. Pain running down my leg on fire. I radioed work and they had to lift me out of the truck on side of the freeway. To late as I pushed my body passed it's limit. After two weeks I went back to the truck and lasted until 2000. Now I had trashed my neck. I took a job as apt maintenance now laying under sinks, painting, bldg, doing everything. Now in 2010 both shoulders had rotated cuff surgery. 2011 both wrists surgery. With discs shot I continue to work thanks to opiates after buying every contraption to try to stop pain. My pain is a cake walk to others so comments like yours, the state cutting back on meds make me sick. So shut the f*** up when you have no clue what people go through. Endo, Purdue are killing us with new formulas and the state has no idea of people like us. Many abuse and f them also as thousands of us need meds that work. Opana has also been ruined. By now maybe your in the same boat I can only hope!
