Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 22)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Thank you for the compliment janeygirl. Tam and I definitely try our best to help the people who need the help. That's why I stayed this forum. I needed help and felt that if I was able to find it then others would as well. Abs it has turned into quite the thread. Well over 400 posts by now. I'm definitely happy I can help those who need it, because I know how hard times of being in pain with no help can be.

We tried percocet without tylenol it made

Im starting 2 get upset cuz i never get any full pain relief.Do you have any advice? How wld i ask my doctor.Like i said before he does whats best for me instead of doing what he wants. No the patches take roughly 24 hours to start working and they last for a couple days. They are absolutely not a few hour medication and you're only supposed to be prescribed fentanyl if you have a strong tolerance to opioids. I guess I wild just talk to him about trying to find something else that works well. If you have chronic pain you should be on a long acting med and a breakthrough like percocet

t anyways I have a cyst on my pituitary gland talk about constant head pain!!, until that cyst is resolved I need a higher dose of meds, not lowered. It was just disappointing I guess because I do come for injections and chiropractic care, I have to drive 22 miles there and back just to get adjusted due to medicare denying both services in one day. I do go all that way to get the adjustments I believe in therapy along with meds is mosthelpful to me for my condition, just an FYI About how the DEA and pharmacy is playing a large role in my life....Eventually , well soon I will need another Pain MGMT. dr. have a good Friday all and I symp[athise wilt all CPP, s.

I was reading my last post and it's only half of a paragraph. Ive been going to unified Health Group for nearly a year, now their policy is to wean us off, taper us down, and on top of my back being trashed from L5-S1 I have cyst on pituitary gland, at least until I can get the cyst removed or get that problem resolved Im in need of a slight increase im on 60 mg MSContin every 8 hrs and vicodin WAS at 10/325 3-4 times/day now it 7.5/325. ive done the IV (facet I've been with this place for almost a year, I have to drive 44 miles to get adjustments because my insurance will not pay for an adjustment and appt. with the pain DR. ive always seen the male dr there but the P.A. there was so rude about the whole situation, just a jerk about it, I waited to see my doc who ive always seen and he actually kindly said thank you for working with us instead of go elsewhere, if ever you go there request Hong. The lady there (i'm not going to put her name on here) put her nasty god/doctor complex, knowing I have a cyst that has not been measured since nov. 2012, due to the mRI request and miscommunication in June I had a follow up MRT, but I decided to get a copy for myself and all it was was a post-concussive MRI, it did not even examine the pituitary gland, and in oct. I had 2 full menstrual cycles and spotted the rest. That gland controls hormones. Dr. Hong did write me for fiorcet though, she was uncaring as to a solution to an "I don't know how big cyst" last year it was 1.1cm 11mm , my headaches are worse than ever!! Sorry to complain ppl, just comparing how docs are different in So many ways. I have a follow up coming up this week so we can get that mri schedueled. Do a fairly simple procedure/surgery get that cyst out that's sitting on my optic. I may have to just pay to go to CPR, I certainly can get the referral it would be no problem. Is it 250$ for the first visit and a little cheaper the next visits? Thanks to all of you Mac, tammy & all who have made this forum helpful!!

Thank you Chaos. I kind of pride myself on being mature for my age. I grew up in the wrong crowd and have had my fair share of issues but I am glad I learned from them early on in life and in turn grew wiser. But I greatly appreciate the compliment and I'm happy that I can be of help to anyone who needs it. I was in that position and with starting this forum, Tammy helped me. So it is all mutual. We all should be there for each other. With all the nonsense and problems circling our lives and our need for pain meds we have to stick together.

Thanks Tammy!! Now my 2nd issue will be with the brand of my mscontin the mallinkrofdt seems to work the best for me I got a brand I believe Roche the Mscontin was marked ABG (or something close to that) I will keep you all posted, if anyone else has any new info about the DEA deciding for docters what and how much should be written, one exclusion to this rule at King soopers is if you are a cancer patient.

Tammy thank you too!! Be prepared the DEA is telling me that even though my physician wrote this MsContin60 mg 3 times /day and Hydrocodone down to 7.5//325 cys t on pituitary gland , stenosis, herniations, narrowing degenerating l4-l5, as well as dysmennorhea Monthly) not nice sometimes I have more bad then good , but I appreciate them good days, I take anit depressant too, mamnages well. I don't think the above meds are too strong pending this cyst that my Neuro- misunderstood, did not get the type of mri correct. I called 4 months ago@ the follow up Brain Mri results, I was told doc signed off everythings normal. so I decided to go get a copy myself, just cuz my f--in head hurts!! so I read it and it was only a post concussive report, and even though it denied exploring the pituitary, still on the tella surci..showed what might be a cy sat. it is the same cyst I begged for MRI, due to increased headached, and it was 1,1 a year ago. on the brighter side it is a procedure in which it's 2 large can be taken out through the nostril, but it could be a month before I can even get the surghery...Omygoodness my point is check your paperwork reports , mri, I usually do but didn't chedk the report myself,idk... Good Sunday to Every1.. Stay *positive..Thanks again..

Target or walgreens will fill anything... had no issues with them ever. King Soopers has given problems to my uncle repeatedly. I hope you get what you need!

King soopers are trying to say its the dea but really it is just them. Walgreens as well is trying to get medical info that is personal before deciding to fill ur script. So like the sign says in the office don't use king soopers or walgreens. I used king soopers and found all this out the hard way took me 3 different pharmacies and finally just went with walmart, I actually like the pharmacists there they are very understanding and if say its a weekend and I need a pill or 2 they will give them to me till the doc can get it called in mondays.

Ya Walmart or Rite Aid. King soopers fills my somas and valium regularly but for my narcs it is Rite Aid all the way. The only reason I go to kings for my others is that it is right next door and they always fill them. King soopers was involved in numerous case suits along with walgreens for filling super early and I'm pretty sure people even died. That's why they have these ass backwards policies now.

Tammy, You are so on target! King Soopers started all of this themselves! No one in the south east area "allows" more than 150 of oxy's per prescription! I haven't gotten any clear info why! This was the reason my previous GP/Pain Management Dr quit doing pain management! The second issue I've had is that one pharmacy carries one of my meds but not my extended release! You get issue after issue, making it look like u r doing something wrong! My pharmacy, who I've been with over 20 years and owns two pharmacies, because of the King Soopers now can't get more to accommodate for the volume of scripts they need to fill! It sometimes takes 2-3 days for them to fill! Not only that but the pricing has increased by volumes! I literally spent a week to find a pharmacy that could fill my prescriptions! I ended up several times having to get the docs to give me two weeks of scripts to b able to get them filled as my long term medicine is in a very small dose that all the bigger pharmacies didn't carry! I don't know about u guys but until I went to CPR, I looked like a Dr shopping fool! Exactly what u need, more pain due to the stress of finding a doc, being referred multiple times because the docs would only take patients that needed interventional procedures! One doc flat out told me "why should I see patients like u for a small amount when I can make thousands for the same amount of time"! What a sad statement that is! After seeing or being referred to doc after doc, it looked like I was getting meds from 5 different doc's! Not one of these referred docs even examined me! Additionally, with 20 year history of a numb left leg (took me 4 years to learn to walk again" and having all the appropriate documentation, MRI's, cat scans and IV's, every single one of these docs without even touching me, quickly wanted to restart the process all over again! More IV's, more therapy, you name it, they wanted to start from the beginning again! I'd love for one of these docs to have to jump through the hoops they make us jump through, let alone the cost and I believe their beliefs would change and quickly!! So now due to a few bad apples we don't have just the doc to worry about but also the insurance didn't want to cover my meds and then the pharmacies/as well as the insurance folks believe they have MD behind their name! 20 years ago a chiropractor herniated a healthy disc, resulting in 2 surgeries because they missed pieces that ultimately caused my leg to b totally numb! My choices at that point was a wheelchair or do as I did and worked very hard to regain function! After the initial 2 surgeries within 6 months, seven years later, I had to have the back fused! I hadn't been on meds until after the third surgery! Four years ago today, I was being released from the hospital after a full cardiac arrest from an allergic reaction to the contrast dye! They didn't have me monitored, nor noticed that I quit breathing until they pulled me out of the scanner! Since they have no idea how long I was in arrest they give me 23+ minutes of being in full arrest! The resuscitated me on the cat scan table, which caused the shocks to arch, burning my back in addition to now having 6 broken ribs! CPR hurts! So on top of having back pain, a good day is a 4 out of ten, I'm "comfortable" and can work! Like many of us, we take the medication to b able to live and function, not to lay on the coach, drinking and popping pills! I honestly can tell u that I'm ashamed to tell anyone that I opened a pain management program! I say this as ten years ago, chronic pain basically was equivalent to being a drug addict! It infuriates me when u end up in the ER because u did something silly and go way beyond what little meds I was on prior to the arrest! In speaking to reps, this King Sooper's deal came from several deaths associated with overdosing! I have always said as a nurse, you shouldn't judge folks until u have walked a mile in our shoes! In searching for a Dr, I found so many judgemental attitudes that I got severely depressed, which all of us know now, depression equals more pain! Apparently, Colorado is second to Florida for script's for oxy! These reps openly admit that "perhaps" they went a little overboard in their knee jerk reaction from the dea/King Soopers! I've written our respresentatives, govenor's and Obama himself that there needs to b standards that allow docs to provide patients the medications they despirately need! These are the reasons I have knee jerk reactions to folks asking what doc will prescribe x amount of meds or what puts me right over the cliff when they r willing to buy or sell their meds! It isn't an urban myth that seniors are getting medication to sell to help financially! It's so sad and it's frustrating to me that I am working hard to change our states knee jerk reaction to this oxy deal! It makes "good patients" who take their meds as we r supposed to b taking them and end up being lumped together with the true abuser! Although I have gotten the attention of our representatives and the President, how do you even write a bill that basically doesn't allow Dr's to actually treat their clients appropriately! I believe the most recent studies show that 3% of all patients are true addicts and need Different treatment! It's frustrating to me as I am physically working hard to get the government to allow docs to actually practice medicine! These guys barely can practice medicine on so many levels that I would love to research to find out how many people this new practice has affected! Im extremely functional when on my meds but couldn't get out of bed without it! Here we r, being able to function, what do they expect when we can't take our meds! I've had some complications from my cardiac arrest and it's made my pain level increase but I'm still functional! I'm not sure what they expect to eventually happen but I've seen myself people while on their meds who were able to work full time and b productive and with these changes they no longer can function and end up on welfare! It infuriates me these ads or "jokes" on the Internet that people that r receiving help should have to have a u.a. to get their disability funds! It's done nothing more than making functional patients to now become not functional! This truly is my "soap box" and feel strongly that everyone who is in the same situation as we all have been, should write everyone and make our reps that we voted into office, need to hear stories such as ours! I guarantee u, not one of them could function! They need to b educated! They have this vision that people that take meds out of necessity are people with a needle in their arms! I am shocked when interviewing pain patient's the amount of people that are on meds that I would have never expected! These r good people, hard workers but if their meds get cut further, they will no longer be able to b functional! What happens then? They end up on disability! Folks like us should b applauded for stepping up to the plate and helping one another as u will not find any help! I've called hospital after hospital requesting referrals or suggestions, they give u an outdated list of "Dr's Against Pain" only after calling each Dr and with a referral was met with "we only do interventional modalities", or they r no longer taking pain patient's or they have had their license taken for over prescribing! The docs are as frustrated as we r! The dea has increased their work load by double! The few docs that truly do pain management are being met with not only having to b careful that their documentation is over the top as well! Many of the pharmacies, even if u have been on the very same dose for a long time, are calling the Dr's office to verify that the script was real!!! So u need to b prepared that even though the script was legit! They won't even talk to a PA but the doc himself! So adding to these new "rules" some folks can't get their scripts Ian's often run out especially since the pharmacy itself runs out of their allotment! I scares me with them being so strict and winter coming, what's going to happen if u can't get to the docs due to weather or u r given a partial refilled as the pharmacy has 72 hours to legally hold narcotics before the script is totally filled! I have had multiple times since this has started that I went down to fill my script, they didn't have all of it, we get snowed in, can't get to the pharmacy and u loose the rest of your script! Lastly, we r responsible for our scripts! Twice I've taken to the hospital my scripts with me to show what I am currently on as if it after hours the hospital won't just take your word that u r on such and such! They send the scripts to the pharmacy for "safe keeping" and when it came time to b discharged, no meds were there! Many docs will say "how often do patient loose their blood pressure medicine?" the first time I heard this, I laughed! Blood pressure medicine gets lost but no one cares!! They just refill it! These meds, if someone u work with knows what u r taking, u can bet some have helped themselves if they really need it! It's a sad story when u have to schedule vacations or business trips around when u r due for a refill as they will not give scripts out early, even if u show your tickets or whatever! It's upset many of the frequent fliers to the ER because they no longer will send u home with a narcotic script unless u have a broken bone or an acute injury and even then it's no longer a week of meds but a few days! Then u get flagged because Multiple docs have written scripts for u! Colorado Rehab has about 20 doc's total! U don't always get the same doc and u get flagged again for multiple docs writing your scripts! It's become issue after issue even for the patient that has been on a consistent dose, uses only one pharmacy! I feel horrible for new folks needing to find a doc! I was very leery about giving docs names and such on this thread but in reading the "rules" there isn't any issue with helping people by giving the docs names out! My biggest pet peeve about this is that most pain patients thank God they even got a doc, I've been in Colorado well over 30 year's and when my doc stopped doing pain management including Suboxone treatment, I was about to "settle" on these docs that don't examine u, they check your pee, write your script and after $300 in cash, u r on your merry way! I frankly wasn't about to settle and found out through my pharmacist that I had been flagged even though I hadn't gotten my meds earlier than I should have but seeing multiple docs flags u! To b "safe" the pharmacy had me have the doc that I had seen actually write out to cover both our butts each doc I had seen and that they were aware of the situation! The last two hospitalizations I've had, i was in up to 11 days, missed my appointments the hospital doc had to okay the amount I needed until I could get in! They actually made my appointment and wrote for exactly the amount I needed! Now that I've given u my soap box, I realize it's long but I feel this information maybe helpful to the newbies of the group! Anymore u have to b brave to get the medicines u need! I love being able to live my life and no longer is my life built around doc appointments, injections, physical therapy appointments, I can enjoy my life! No! I am no longer able to play a full round of golf with my boys but I can play enough to make me feel good!! Yes Mac, I'm back! I really needed a break, been having a bunch of medical issues taken care of but that one thread where someone was looking to buy meds put me over the edge!! With me working hard to get us addressed felt like it was a slap in the face! I have one more scheduled hospitalization to look forward to but I was furious! I have a pacemaker/defibrillator in my chest from the medical error and scheduling procedures is next to impossible for the simple less of things! The broke basically the whole bottom of my teeth when putting in my breathing tube, it's been time trying to get it pulled together as it isn't as easy having to have so many people there due to my biotic body parts!! So my crankiness was due to frustration and just the beginning of a long process of rebuilding my whole mouth!! So sorry guys! Even pain management patients get cranky!!! Keep up the Good work!! U have helped a heck of a lot of folks!

It's funny, once medications "new" meds come on board, they have x amount of time that other companies can't make their version of the same drug! Most Doc's and pharmacies will tell u that there is NOT any difference between the generic and a brand name! I don't care who tries to tell me that there aren't differences and one brand shouldn't work differently brand to brand! There are!!! Yes! The major part of the drug is what it is but different manufacturers use different fillers! Some of these fillers work differently depending on the person! One type of filler may help the medicine work better for some while others may not work as well! It has to do with what your body does with the filler! So I strongly agree, different manufacturers work differently on each person! U aren't going loco! I make sure my pharmacist has the type of manufacturer that works the best for me! There is one type of oxy that I've been given may as well b water, where the other type works very well! So in a nutshell! It's your body, u know what works, just make sure your Doc writes that your medication can b substituted for a different brand name!

Which manufacturer are you saying works very well for you if you don't mind me asking.

I agree, we should be able to get any brand we want I mean we can pick between brands of foods and drinks why can't we decide what brand meds to put in our bodies.
