Been on this for 2 years and was doing fine but now depressive symptoms back I can function at work but then spend weekend sleeping. I exercise 6 days a week but feel joyless ## Hello, Lola! How are you? What dose are you taking? It is normal for your body to eventually get used to any medication you take for a long period of time and for it to stop working as well for you. The time frame can vary from person to person, so there's no way to say when it will happen. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need a dosage adjustment or to try a different medication. ## I've been on pristiq for 8 months. I did improve with depression and anxiety b...

I have been on pristiq for at least 3 years 100 mg per day . I have been doing well with this drug. I take it for anxiety , panic disorder , some depression. But lately I have been feeling a little queasy ( stomach) and feeling somewhat anxious . Not sure what's going on because a close friend of mine died recently in a accident And my wife just got diagnosed with stage 1 liver cancer but it was caught early, She is my rock and love her so much I would die if I ever lost her. Thank you ## Hello, Gary! How are you? I really wish the best for your wife. Medications can become less effective, over time, as our bodies get used to them and coupling that with the stress you're currently under, it makes sense that you could be experiencing more stress and anxiety. At this point, you ma...

I've been on 50 mg for a while and haven't been doing as good as I once was- my dr wants me to go to 100 mg but now that they finally make a 25 mg pill. Do you think 75 mg would be good? I'd prefer to be on as small of a dose as I can- lemme know guys or girls if anyone bumped to 75mg with success or 100 mg too when 50 mg wasn't working as good. Thanks and all comments would help out a lot! ## Hello, Chris! How are you? If your doctor agrees, there is no reason to go to the 100mgs, trying 75mgs is perfectly fine and will leave you somewhere to go, if you become tolerant to that dosage. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on Pristiq 50mg for four weeks. I feel like it is working for my anxiety/depression. The side effects I have been experiencing are headaches (starting to improve) insomnia at night-time and feeling confused/having trouble thinking clearly/concentrating. This is the side effect I find most bothersome. Will these side effects ease up in time? ## Most side effects will taper off, once your body gets used to the medication, but that can sometimes take about 5 to 6 weeks. If there is no improvement after that, you should consult your doctor as it might not be the right medication to help you. The FDA lists other possible side effects as including nausea, loss of appetite, and decreased libido. Ref: Pristiq Information Is there anything I can help with?

I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated! ## i was switched to pristiq a few months ago and just recently wellbutrin was added - i take 1 of each pill per day - it has done nothing to me in gaining weight - i am continuously losing but i have some emtional things going on right now which i believe the weight loss is contributed too - unfortunately i have run into many that have...

My Doctor has changed my prescription from Pristiq to Citalopram. She says there is no difference in the 2 drugs other than the price. I am unsure whether to change medicine. ## That is not entirely true, though they both are used to treat the same conditions. Pristiq contains Desvenlafaxine, this is a Selective Seratonin, Norephinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor. The Citalopram only acts on Seratonin. Many people, however, can use either one, though some people do need the added benefits of the SSNRI. Did she give a reason for why she is switching them? You can read more about them here: ## She changed the medication, due to the Pristiq not working like she thought it would.

I was on venlafaxine 37mg and it made me more worse. I was on cymbalta and that worked great but it stopped working and now i am on zoloft but it's not working. I am thinking about pristiq but is it worth it over venlafaxine? ## It is a similar medication in the same class, but it is not exactly the same, so it may work better for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on pristique 50mg for 13 months now. The first 9 months I felt great but after that I feel that the pristique has started to wear off and going up to 100mg is no different. Today my doctor has reccomended that we add Wellbutrin 150mg in combo with the pristique. Has anyone taking this combo and if so how is it working for you? ## Have you tried adding the Wellbutrin yet? Learn more Wellbutrin details here. Learn more Pristiq details here. It's fairly common for several medications to be combined to best try and help someone, especially if they are treatment resistant, or have grown tolerant to one or more medications, as you have.

6 months ago my doctor switched me to Pristiq xr 100mg to replace Effexor xr 75mg. The med. always seems to stop working after abot 6 or7 months or so. I have not seen my doc in 6 months and i've noticed my anxiey is terrible. I don't trust co-workers and am paronoid that when I walk into work, they are thinking bad thoughts of me. This stops me from opening up/making friends. My co-workers eventually end up not liking me. I hope someone can relate with me. 5 years ago this was just depression, and the in the last 3 years whatever anxiety I may have had has slowly gotten worse. Is this typical of these medications? I've even considered divorcing just to start a new life/new chapter. I hope someone can help. thank you. ## My wife of 13 years started acting irrational, had ras...

I was on 50mg Pristiq and didn't realise I was having anger issues on days I forgot to take it. I was only on it due to injuries stopping me from working and suffering from pain and financial issues. It broke up my relationship. After the break up I went up to 100mg. After some months I started to space out/blackout in the afternoon on days I forgot to take it. I always took it at 7am. Well my partner and I had gotten back together and it happened a couple of times in the 4 or 5 weeks we were back together. The 3rd time was the only time I had alcohol the day I'd forgotten to take the Pristiq and I had a violent episode. My life is in ruin and no one is listening. They think I was just drunk. Violence was not normal behaviour for me but drinking half a bottle of bourbon was. I o...

I started on Pristiq ER 50mg and also Lipitor 10mg a month ago and saw the doctor at that time. She listened to my heart rate which was fine. The Pristiq has been working very well and I have even lost 5 pounds; had gained about 40 pounds on Cymbalta. So about a week and a half ago I noticed that my pulse rate was irregular which could have started before I noticed it. I got very light-headed at work. I went to ER the other night and my heart rhythm was going in and out of bigeminy which is a normal beat followed by a premature ventricular beat. I just wore a Holter Monitor for 24 hours. Lab work was ok and I need to see a Cardiologist. I have never had this before and am just wondering if anyone else had had some symptoms like this. I have to see my regular doctor tomorrow and am not t...

has anyone made this change, what dosage of pristiq were u then given, and what was your experience? thanks for sharing. P.S. I have been on effexor xr for 5 years and it has stopped working. t.y. ## Was on 150 also and it worked well for about two years then I didn't really notice that it was helping. Got off of it for a while but had a panic attack so I was prescribed Pristiq. I lost 30 lbs in six weeks which was the ONLY positive. It made me space out and feel more depressed. Not to mention zero libido. I've been on many antidepressants in the past and I'm beginning to think they are just poison. I saw a psychiatrist and he wanted me on prozac, xanax, and seroquel. Good god, I don't think so! I've found these drugs are just a quick fix but in the long run have mor...

For at least a year or more I've been taking pristiq (generic) and simvastatin at the same time. I felt that the pristiq was no longer working because I was so very tired all of the time. It dawned on me that maybe there was an interaction between taking simvastatin and pristiq at the same time. I took them separately at least 3 hours apart and today have more energy and as the day wore on kept felling better. I know there isn't supposed to be an interaction if you take them together, but I can't help but think there is. Has anyone else taken them at the same time and then stopped taking them together and had better results with not feeling so tired all of the time and listless? ## Hi Karen, I just wanted to add another perspective or insight into your understanding that the...

I have depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, and am currently taking Pristiq 50mg once daily, along with Buspar 10mg twice daily. I was taking 300mg Wellbutrin XL with that, but my psych dr thought it my be exacerbating my anxiety. A few weeks ago she decreased my Wellbutrin dosage to 150mg and changed it to the SR formula. Now she wants me to quit the Wellbutrin completely and up my Pristiq.. I I have been on 50mg Pristiq once daily for almost a year now, and I don't really think it's been working for me for some time. When I first started taking it, I switched from Zoloft 100mg and found my mood improved quickly. After a while I think I went more towards either being depressed or apathetic, but yet couldn't actually recognize until my husband told me that I...

I have been on pristiq 100mg for about 10 years now for depression and anxiety it has been working for many years but today I feel terrible with head spins, nausea and systems i usually get when i forget a pill which i haven't is there any reason for this? ## Hello, Danielle! How are you? After 10 years, it may be that your body has just grown tolerant to this dosage, which could explain why you're feeling some withdrawal effects, as if you missed a pill. The U.S. FDA lists other as possibly including rebound depression, anxiety, chills, and diarrhea. It may be time for a dosage adjustment, or you may need to try an entirely different medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

My friend was on prestig and murdered his wife. He was a good hard working man. Could this drug have contributed to his behavior? ## Pristiq is an antidepressant medication. Information I was able to gather states that nausea is the most common side effect associated with Pristiq. I also retrieved that suicidal ideation was monitored and was determined to be significant in 1-2 patients in each study. I am not an MD, however I do believe it would be best to immediately consult your doctor about this occurrence to see if Prestiq plays a clear role in managing your friends behavior. To view more information about this drug, please refer to the link below If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to post back so I can further assist you. ## I was taking 100 MG of...

I have been on Cymbalta ( and Teva generic 60mg) for 8 years now. Lately it's starting to feel like the med is not quite the same in efficacy as a year ago. Wondering if things might pick up if I can get insurance to cover some of the brand name again,? ## Hello, Howard! How are you? It is normal for our bodies to get used to anything we ingest regularly for a long period of time and for it to stop working as well. Thus, after 8 years, you most likely need to try a different medication for awhile. What condition are you taking it to treat? If the SNRIs, such as this, work best for you, there are others you can try, such as Effexor, Pristiq and Savella. The FDA lists them all as possibly causing similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes.

I suffer from high anxiety, ADHD and minor depression. Last week I talked to my doctor and he prescribed me 50 mg Pristiq for the anxiety and 30 mg Vyvanse for ADHD. I have been taking both as directed, the Vyvance in the morning and the Pristiq at night before bed. So far the Vyvanse is working well for me. I feel much more focused, have more energy, and have been more social and more productive at work- just an overall better mood. The problem is that about 7 or 8 hrs after taking the Vyvanse it starts wearing off and I start feeling extremely anxious and can't sleep. The doctor said the Pristiq takes at least 2-3 weeks to start working, so I'm not sure how that will effect me yet. I read that sleeplessness is a common side effect of both of these drugs, but I can't stand ...

I am 34 years old and have been taking anti-depressants for about 3 years. I started on Lexapro, which quit working after a year and a half. While I was taking Lexapro I was experiencing horrible exhaustion (I have a disabled child and work full-time...VERY stressful), so my doctor put me on Vyvanse. She also gave me an Rx for Xanax .25mg to take as needed, which I RARELY took (usually only at night to relax). Last spring my stress level went through the roof and my doctor switched me from the Lexapro (which wasn't working anymore) to Pristiq 50mg, which was AWFUL (Horrible, vivid nightmares). I took that for one month before switching to Cymbalta 30mg. I have never liked taking the Vyvanse because it's an amphetamine. During the summer I began experiencing horrible anxiety and ...

I have been quickly tapered off of Pristiq 200 mg....and now am on Brintellix 10 mg. (Total time of taper 2 weeks) I feel like I have the flu. How are you? Most likely, you're experiencing both some withdrawal effects and some side effects, at the same time and it will probably take a couple of weeks, before they taper off and things start to improve.
