I have been gaining weight and I have an IUD MIRENA in me and I don't know what to do. Is there any possible way for me to not gain weight???? #PLEASEHELPME ## Hello, Monica! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. No, but generally hormonal contraceptives only cause a gain of about 10 pounds. The only thing you can really do is eat a healthy, balanced diet and make sure that you get lots of proper exercise. How much have you gained? Other side effects may include nausea, headache, acne, irritability, PMS-like symptoms and breakthrough bleeding. ...

Uterine pain, Naproxen, IUD

I was given a new copper IUD about four months ago after my old one was causing me pain. I'm now experiencing the same pain I was last time. I'm wondering if using Naproxen (Aleve) vaginally could help relieve inflammation better "at the source" rather than take it orally. I don't want to take it orally as I am bodybuilding and do not want to affect my gains, as NSAID medication is apt to do. ## Hello, Laura! How are you? No, you shouldn't use anything vaginally that hasn't been formulated to be used that way, because it could cause serious infections. Have you consulted your doctor? ...

Mirena IUD 2 months with horrible odor

I had the mirena inserted in early February and bled heavily for the first 3 weeks. That has slowed down to a very slight spotting and not really bothersome. But now I'm dealing with this horrible metallic smell. Its so strong I can smell it all throughout the day. I'm taking multiple showers a day. I saw my doctor 10 days ago and mentioned the smell. She said it was just the blood and to douche. Well I have douched 3 times and there is no change in the smell. I've been reading lots of forums and find I'm not alone. I was thinking of trying the rephfresh...... Thoughts on this? My real concern is this, and i have not ben able to find anything on this: I'm wondering if my doctor gave me an infection when she inserted it..... During the procedure, she was havibg troubl... ...

Antibiotics Tablets

I currently have an IUD, Mirena, I was just prescribed, Dicloxacillin. I am wondering what are the side effects for these two mixed medications. Does the Dicloxacillin interfere with the IUD? ## In most cases, the reason that antibiotics alter the efficacy of contraceptives is due to their effect on how fast your body absorbs and processes the oral forms. Basically, they can make them run through your digestive system much faster, so less is absorbed and active in the body, which increases your risk of becoming pregnant. Thus, most aren't known to do that with an IUD, since you aren't swallowing and digesting the hormone, instead its being absorbed right into your uterus. However, for added peace of mind, I'd still suggest using a backup method of contraception, just to be o... ...

it takes how long to disapear?

Hi you good people.I had an IUD done..after two weeks of doing it I noticed a smelly discharge...i asked a pharmacist for advice n he recomanded Canex V cream. After using it on the day i bought it the smell stoped but i still produce dark brown(not a pleasent color) discharge. How long will it take to stop completely? ## It sounds like you may be experiencing spotting, which is a type of light bleeding that can be a normal side effect, when you have an IUD, according to NIH reports. When it's dark brown like that, it's usually old blood that wasn't expelled during your prior period. Have you had it checked out by a doctor, though? That is always the best thing to do. ...

sprintec / constant bleeding

I just started sprintec this week, I had an IUD fall out in January and was put on quartette but bled everyday a good amount, needing several liners to several super tampons. So I called my OB because I couldn't take the daily bleeding after seven months. OB put me on Sprintec and I have completed one week of pills any advice on when I can expect the bleeding to stop???? ## Hello, Danni! How are you? Irregular bleeding can occur for the first 3 months, or so, while your body gets used to a new oral contraceptive, but if it goes beyond a couple months, you should inform your doctor as you may need to switch, again. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and PMS-like symptoms. When I was younger and taking them, I found that the blee... ...

Taking 3 a day....

I just started my 2nd pack of sprintec and I have been bleeding for over 10wks. I had an IUD removed prior to starting OCs. After several visits to the Dr they finally found I was bleeding due to the IUD causing me to have no lining on my uterus. The Dr said for me to take 3/day for 4 days then 2/day and so on until I start my period again. Is this normal?! ## Hello, Candy! How are you? I have never heard of them being taken this way, but it would be best to follow your doctor's instructions, since they are specially trained to help with such issues. They may just be trying to boost your hormone levels to stabilize your uterine lining to stop the bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

11 days late on period - On Lo Loestrin FE

I am 22 years old and on my second pack of Loestrin (week 2). I've never missed a period on any birth control, including the IUD Mirena... I always have very regular 7 day heavy periods, so you would think I'd be happy about not having one now. NOT the case. I am now 11 days late on my period. (First day of last period was 11/25/13). So far I have taken 3 early detection pregnancy tests (First Response Gold). I took one the day after my missed period (evening), one 5 days later (morning urine) and one again today (11 days late, morning) -- ALL NEGATIVE. I never intended to get pregnant (obviously, as I'm only 1.5 months into my birth control), but I actually started to get my hopes up after being so late on my period and now I'm a little disappointed to be experiencing a... ...

primilut nur

I took primilut nur (twice a day) to postpone my period for a bit over a month. I have been off the pills for almost three weeks, and still have not received my period. I also should mention that I have an iud without hormones. ## Well, that is a hormone, so you most likely have thrown off your natural hormonal balance and it could take awhile for things to get back to normal. Have you consulted your doctor about the issue? ...

Norethindrone 5mg for heavy bleeding

Hi, I had been having very heavy menstrual bleeding for the last 2 months (Dec/Jan) so my dr. prescribed me norethindrone 5mg to take the first day of my period and to take it everyday. I also have the paragard copper IUD (which is partly the reason for the heavy bleeding). I got my period on Feb. 1st and started taking the norethindrone that day and I have been bleeding every day since then (now Feb. 16th). It started out light and it has gotten heavier the longer I have been on it. It is to the point where I am heavier now with the medicine than without. I am calling my doctor tomorrow but he has been out of the office for the last 4 days. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I just stop taking it? What happens if I stop taking it? I started getting night sweats the first day I to... ...

havent had my periods

Hi! I had a copper UID inserted and I blended only. for three weeks and since then av not received my period. Av got two months now without my periods. what might be the problem! ## Hello, Kapenzi! How are you? It's most likely that the IUD has just disrupted your normal cycle, but it would be best to speak to your doctor, so they can check for pregnancy, just in case. The FDA lists the typical side effects of the copper IUD as possibly including heavier bleeding, breakthrough bleeding and cramping. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

Periods after 1.5 years Mirena

How common is it for periods to be regular past the first year and then stop or space further out? I would have been expecting it around the one year mark... Slightly nervous about pregnancy. I bled for 8 weeks after the insertion of my IUD in April 2012. Then I have had pretty regular periods (within a week) since then. They last between 7-10 days. I think I might be overdue (maybe a week). However I am really bad at tracking it. I felt a really sharp pain a few days ago and yesterday felt cramping. I thought for SURE my period would start by today. The cramping felt exactly like period cramps. Yet, today the cramps are gone and still no period. ## Well, the one predictable thing about the Mirena IUD is its unpredictability. If you made it through a year and a half with regular periods... ...

Stopping periods with Sprintec birth control pill?

Is there any way of stopping or slowing down period with Sprintec? Get annoyed Friday will make 15 days of bleeding & no signs of slowing down :( been to Dr but hate to keep taking different pills, thought about getting the IUD but not sure? Thanks! ## Yes, according to the FDA usage listings, oral contraceptives may help with such a problem, though it could take anywhere from one to 3 months. However, they contain hormones, so for many women, they can help balance them back out for you to eliminate such a problem. Typical side effects are listed as including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was put on sprintec 28 6weeks postpartum because I started bleeding non stop with big clots with it. They put me on sp... ...
