I have cancer and was prescribed to take 3 pills every three hours. By mistake I took 4 pills thinking they were 1 mg and they are 2 mg. I had surgery yesterday and have been unable to sleep. I was administered Dilaudid at the hospital last night around 6pm. Can i take tylenol 3 now? I have sickle cell anemia disease. ## How long ago were you given the Dilaudid? medium white tablet with a M that has a square around it and a 4 on the back ## Pill Image This is NOT Dilaudid, that would be Hydromorphone. This pill is a generic version of Tylenol with Codeine, it contains Acetaminophen 300mgs and Codeine 60mgs. It is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. ## But an easy mistake to make. Mallinckrodt does make a generic 4 mg hydromorphone tablet. It is round, white, 5/16 diameter. Imprinted with block M on one side, 4 on the other. However, the hydromorphone does NOT have a box around the M like the codeine does.

I am allergic to Vicodin and Percocet so for my last 2 surgical procedures have been prescribed 4mg oral Dilaudid. I understand that it is a very powerful pain reliever but I get minimal relief from it so is it possible that my pain receptors are not responsive to this type of medication? The only other pain med that I take is Lodine (NSAID) for arthritis. It seems that I get more pain relieve from 2 Tylenol but am still in alot of pain with that. Both times after surgery I have stopped taking the Dilaudid after 3 days because I'm still in pain and on top of that constipated. 16 hours post op. Wondering if I can safely take dilaudid and Tylenol 3's. Not at the same time but every 3 hours or so as both are prescribed every 4-6 hours. I am taking 4mgs of Dilaudid, 2mg Xanax, 200mg Gabapentin, 75mg Doxepin and Tylenol daily. Is it safe? ## Generally most pain management doctors will not prescribe Xanax along with Dilaudid or any pain killer. They say it makes your heart slow down and they fear you may go to sleep and not wake up. I'm hoping that you are going to one doctor for all of your meds or have told the doctor(s) that are prescribing the Dilaudid and Xanax that you are taking both meds. Please be careful and don't take any extra of either med. ## Have they all been prescribed for you? Generally, the NIH warns that taking them together may cause more severe side effects than usual. I was prescribed Dilaudid 2mg for the repair of an incisional hernia. Pain maiintenance has been a problem in as much as I cannont in the least tollerate even 2mgs of dilaudid. In the hospital was one matter. At home I was scared, felt on and off as if I were dying and very week to the point that I could barely make it to the kitchen to eat even oatmeal It would take me 10 to clean up a small kitchen spill because I was so weak. I switched to 600 mg IB and was chastised by the Advice Nurse for even considering IB and to switch immediately to Tylenol. I've been taking dilaudid 4mg once sometimes twice a day. At the end of the month when I run out, if I take a couple of Tylenol and codeine will it help till I get my pills? ## Hello, Sue! I used 8mg of subutex yesterday approximately 10 in the morning. It is now 4:20 in the afternoon the following day. When can i take dilaudid again and feel its effects? ## @mammonal, From what I could gather online, it'll likely depend on how long you've been using either medication for. However due to Buprenorphine's long half-life, most comments I've seen suggest waiting at least 3 days or more before interchanging between the two (basically until you feel the onset of withdrawals). I've been taking 2-4 norco 5-325 almost daily for about 3 months. I have large cysts on my ovaries along with endometriosis and adanonmyosis. I'm in pain about 3 weeks out of the month. I'm having surgery on Thursday the 11th to remove the cysts and one ovary and burning the endometriosis tissue. I ran out of pills a few days ago and of course my doctor is on vacation and not responding. My friend has hydromorphone left over from a old surgery/ injury but what I've read says not to take it before surgery. My mom went to the emergency room and we think they gave her Dilaudid instead of tylenol for pain which was not in anyway severe or the reason she was there. After that she was totally knocked out and now 2 1/2 days later is in a semi comatose state.
