it is a capsule and it's purple and orange ## This is Droxia R or hydroxyurea. It is used to treat the pain of sickle cell anemia...a fatal disease. It is not a narcotic pain medication like you might think. It only works for pain for this specific disease. Do not ingest it unless you have sickle cell! ## Teva Pharmaceuticals lists this tablet as containing 500mgs of Hydroxyurea, it is most commonly used to treat some forms of cancer, such as chronic myeloid leukemia, and certain types of skin cancer. The FDA lists typical side effects nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, itchiness of the skin, weight loss, and constipation. Is there anything I can help with?

Also he has a problem in spleen and blood Thanks alot please reply me as soon as possible ## Hi Lana, From what I could gather, there are potentially unsafe drug interactions between Jakafi (ruxolitinib) and Hydroxyurea. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "MONITOR CLOSELY: The concomitant or sequential administration of multiple antineoplastic agents may potentiate the risk and severity of additive toxicities, such as immunosuppression and myelotoxicity. MANAGEMENT: Close clinical and laboratory monitoring for hematologic and nonhematologic...

I have had HES for 12 years and want to trial Mepolizumab. My specialist has been unable to get me on a trial. What avenues do I have? ## It is really entirely up to the criteria set by the testing agencies and manufacturer, if they don't think you fit the patient profile, then they have the right to refuse you from their clinical trials and, unfortunately, you have no recourse in most countries. It's not the same as if someone were denying you a treatment options that has actually been proven to be life-sustaining. What reason did they give for not letting you into the trials? ## Thanks for your reply Verwon. In a nutshell, I didn't qualify for the trial because my death is not imminent. I have some control using hydroxyurea although the side effects depress all blood cell ...

I take hydroxyurea daily for increased platelet production. Can't sleep at night due to stress and tension. Any risk to take a valium or xanax at night to sleep better? Any risk to combine these two medicines?

I've been taking hydroxyurea for E.T for 8yrs. now. Would vinpocetine be of any help? Also, what about pregnenoline? ## Hello, Charles! How are you? I'm sorry about your condition. Both of these are just considered supplements in the U.S. The FDA has not approved them for any medical use. According to some research articles, Vinpocetine is said to have cerebral blood-flow enhancing effects. Pregnenolone is a steroid hormone and while I'm seeing various benefits claimed for it, such as being neuroprotective, I've not seen anything about it helping with these types of blood issues. Have you consulted your doctor? There might not be any harm in trying them, but only your doctor can say with any certainty. ## Thank you for your thoughts.
