Xarelto Fluid Retention (Page 10) (Top voted first)

I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this while taking Xarelto??

Yes I have had the same effect as well as hemorrhaging and nearly died and had to have several blood transfusions. I have been severely damaged by xarelto including internal bleeding they can’t seem to find and more. The weight gain is the same 45 lbs and I eat like a bird. Only thing I find that helps with inflammation is extreme cold from cryotherapy.

I am wondering if you and others had MRI with dye test at time of discovering clots etc

Hi. No I never had the dye test. I worked out 1 1/2 daily and always ate healthy. My right calf hurt and was larger than the other. Walked around like that for 6mo's thinking I had a pulled muscle. The chiropractor noticed and had me get an ultrasound. Had a dvt from groin down to calf. Then found out I carry the Leiden Factor 5 blood clotting gene. Was on birth control pills at the time. Also took 4 long car trips. I started liver cleanse pills, and try to eat a Paleo diet (80% of the time) lifestyle. My legs, stomach, and breasts still feel heavy, but I do notice an improvement every 6 months. I pray it continues.

Thanks. Everyone in my house started intermittent fasting. I think it may help our problems. I remember some on this thread saying fasting helped them get back to normal. You pick an 8 hour window (mine is 10:30 to 6:30) and that's when you eat. If you have the luxury, it's great to exercise right before your first meal. We'll see... I'll report any progress.

Yes I have gained over 14 LBS since being on Xarelto. This is my last month on it, supposedly. Started September 1st for huge DVT in left thigh. I also have tingling in my right calf, that I have seen as a side effect but weight gain is not on there. I hope it is fluid retention and can't wait to get off of it so I can start my detox/cleanse again! Glad to see I am not alone! Thanks for this blog.

Likewise, I have been on Xarelto for 3 weeks and am continually feeling bloated. I am feeling less hungry and eating healthily, with small portions but it makes no difference. My stomach feels bloated and this is not listed as a side effect on the leaflet that comes with the medication. I will call my consultant tomorrow and see if I can inj. Fragmin instead. Any other suggestions? I'm concerned with this as an irreversible side effect.

I use xarelto(20mg) after evening meal for a 30 day ,..weight 153 pound and now is158 pounds .Retain water in my legs,also they are very red hot and it looks cellulitis.

My doctor had me take Zantac 150 mg and an iron pill (for anemia) when I was taking Xarelto. You might want to talk to your doctor about that taking Zantac or an equivalent OTC med to help with the stomach problem..

Hi, I too am a 27 yo female that suffered from acute clots in my lungs and abdomen ( they found four in left and two in right and two in abdomen) the ones in left lung were worse and caused the bottom of my lung to die. I was on a few different thinners in hospital but as soon and I started taking xarelto the stomach problems have been really bad, I have been on this medication for almost 6months now. I feel like I'm a 100, my muscles are ridged and always feel like I've pulled something (I was hyperflexible before this and excelled in hot yoga now I can't even do a basic stretch) my joints are terrible also. I have had SEVERE back pain, fainting, dizziness, concentration, severe fatigue, sensitivity to sun, terrible headaches and blurred vision, constipation and the other, vomiting, sometimes black tarry stools. My eyes are always dry and blood shot, I don't like this drug I feel too unwell to do anything, ever. They have told me that it's not the medication doing this and they won't take me off (or lower the 20mg dosage) the drug due to my inherited protein s deficiency, prothrombin mutation, factor v Leiden and homozygous mthfr mutations and recent unprovoked clots. no doctor will admit that the drug has anything to do with these current symptoms and says either way preventing clots in more important.. (I have been told I will be on this medication and dosage for the rest of my life) i don't know if I can live like this for the rest of my life, does anyone else know of any other option?
