I believe the medication in question is Sorafenib, which is used to treat kidney, liver, and thyroid cancers. It is most commonly known by the brand name Nexavar.
Its typical side effects may include: nausea, weight loss, congestive heart failure, tinnitus, and acne.
Has anyone actually tried this medication?

I was unsure whether it was spelled Sorafem or Sorafen. It's been recommended for father-in-law's kidney cancer

Do you mean Sarafem? I know that drug does not list Kidney Cancer as one of the uses, but I do not know of any other drugs spelled similarly to Sorafem...
