M Amphet Salts 20 Mg Vs Adderall Xr 20 Mg (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Adderall xr 20 mg and M. Amphet Salts 20 mg. Are these the exact same medications? Are they both manufactured my Shire? Does Shire provide Teva/Barr with the generic version of Adderall xr under the name M. Amphet Salts 20mg? Thank you....

I was prescribed Adderall XR a few months ago but was given the generic. My doc insisted the pharm. provide me the name brand as he does not think generics are equal to any name brand medication. I will start the name brand tomorrow. In the meantime, what interests me about these posts is many of you are mentioning Walgreens as your pharmacy. I find it interesting so many of you are using the same company and are getting generics out of name brand bottles...

I never had a problem with Walgreens, they always dispensed it as AdderallXR. My mail in at Express Scripts was the one giving me problems. This last time the doctor did write dispense as written on the RX, took 3 weeks for Express Scripts to get the AdderallXR to me, but they sent it correctly. I imagine they had to go back to the distributor to get the AdderallXR from them instead of using the M.Amphet Salts like they did in the past.

Hey Thank you for your honest response. Its good to know I'm not alone out there. I have always done horrible in school and barely made it. I went to a university and ended up failing out because of simple mistakes and being totally disorganized. I eventually ended up going back to school and was advised to see a doctor about if I have any problems resulting in my poor grades and low focus towards studying. I ended up seeing my MD about it and through trial of events and tests I was diagnosed with ADHD. I never would've though that I would have something like this especially since my younger sister gifted and accepted in the highest school in new york city. I myself failed throughout in school and maintained a D+ C- average. After being on the M- Amph Salt I did notice a lot of mood swings and headaches but I did focus better in school. The side effects were very uncomfortable but thought thats how it really was. I ended up telling my doc about it and I was later prescribed with the name brand Adderall XR. I must tell you the side effects are deff not showing at all and my concentration levels and my focus towards my work and cleaning up everything around me is just amazing. I never felt so productive in my life and never got so much school work done all at once. I feel the difference between the name brand and the generic one but also there was a huge price difference for it also. I paid 14$ for the generic one and paid 30$ for the brand named. In my opinion I feel the 30$ is well worth it because I do not feel the side effects at all and continue to help me through my life.

I have been taking Adderall XR 20 mgs for a while. Upon my arrival home one day, I realized the pills were different and when I called the store I was told I was given a generic from (according to) Walgreens called and the label on the bottle says D-Amphethamine Salt Combo 20 mg. These are round pink pills scored horizontally and vertically and have COR 135 on the back.
What am I taking exactly?

Hi I'm new here and was put on 20xr by Barr for the past 30 days. Went to my Dr for check and to see how I tolerated 20xr and I told her they worked okay, but by 3pm I was ready for a nap! So we discussed it and she wrote a new script increasing my dose to 30xr by te a (Orange/brown football). After ready so may posts on Brand Name(Shire) vs Generic, I called my insurance company bcbs (fed blue) and was told that I could get mail order brad name 90 day supply of 30xr (shire)for 105.00 (vs the generic 30xr for 30 day supply for 28.00) but my question is this.... Is there a major difference that anyone can speak about (with experiance) between Shires brand name 30xr vs Teva generic 30xr??
I've read a ton of forums and I know everyone is different but I also have read Teva uses a lot of unwanted filler, etc..so I am really confused. The primary issue is that come 3 pm I'm like dead in the water and am totally drained (I take my med at 9am and it wears off by 2pm). Also I really do have to say this, two years ago I was put on Phentermine 37.5 for obesity (endrocronoligst put me on it for 6 months) and I have to say that while I was taking Phentermine I was never more alert, calm, functioning and felt normal!! It was a god send for my ADHD. Was the best thing I ever had (clarity and focus wise)! But, Phentermine is not approved for Adhd and my Dr will not write for off lable prescriptions. So I'm left w/trying to come up with best suitable substitute and have yet to find ANYTHING that compares to Phentermine. So, I was thinking is it better to go the route of name brand (shire) for efficiency or is Teva genetic similar with same efficiecy?

Hoping someone out there had tried both and can speak to this from experiance.

I had this happen to me too. My Adderall XR was mixed with M. Amphet Salts. What I did do, was go to the pharmacist and DEMAND that they only put Adderall XR pills in, and it worked for me.

However, if Shire does stop making adderall XR (or stop making it like it used to be), I am going to be pissed because these off brand manufacturers don't do it right. I feel like poop when I take the off brand.

The first time when I was talking off brand only it gave me sleep apnea, tension headaches, stuff neck and upper back, and pulsative tinnitus (in other words, I could hear my blood flow behind my ear). I felt terrible all the time, really.

It was once I started feeling these symptoms again (on a smaller scale) that I noticed my adderall xr was being swapped with generics.

I just want to let everyone know that last week I received a call from David Baker, VP of the ADHD Division at Shire. He told me that in January Shire stopped producing the M.Amphet Salts and is only producing AdderallXR. David insisted that the M.Amphet Salts and AdderalXR were exactly the same down to the ink they used onthe capsules. I still find this hard to believe. He said that Shire decided to produce only the AdderallXR because of the confusion the 2 names were causing. I know for a fact that my daughter had a reaction to theM.Amphet Salts, and I totally think that there was a difference between these 2 capsules. The most important thing is that Shire STOPPPED producing the M.Amphet Salts. It was suggested to me, by the mail-in prescription company I use, that when your doctor writes a prescription for the AdderallXR, have the doctor also write...Dispense capsules with markings of AdderallXR ONLY.

Thanx for the tip Cathy, re : having write your doc. Dispense capslues w Adderall Xr markings only, I asked my doc to do this. Yet having a hard time finding a pharmacy that will actually do this. the ADDitude, I have gotten.... unreal!! The first time, I went to the pharmacy that I usually fill me script (CVS) when I realized half way throughoout the month that half my pills were different. I told him that they might have made a mistake (being VERY polite) and given me half of the Generic. He then open up 2 bottles in front of me, both shire. One had only adderall XR the other only mix amph salt imprints. He said: I'll swap them out for you this time, but next time if you feek brand, I will have to filled it once I open the bottle. I kept quiet, whats the point of arguing, but A: You can fill it all u want, I just wont pick it up and get a new script if you wont give it back to me. B: Also, you should be apologizeing AND have an explanation. The only logical one I have that Shire gave up on Adderall all together, and sold whatever they had in stock to BARR, told them, yeah go ahead, use our bottles, make that $$ Corupt pisses of S***!!!! BOTH of them. Same thing happend to the IR. Anyone remember filling brand, and gettting the dp on the back (looks like a % sign), this was about month ago, which used to have the AD. Well, i spoke to severall docs. and patients, most of them havent realized a change in the imprint, but on how they felt. So we are not talking placebo effect here!!! Barr changed the mixture, made it cheaper, I am sure...kept the same price. So know BARR offers a Generic AND a BRAND, does that make any sense to anyone. ILLEGAL???

Ok PLEASE excuse my TERRIBLE comparisson, but the same happend to Patron and Grey Goose (I work in the Liquor industry), used to great had great rep Paul Mitchell Bought Patron, now its s**t (its booze most peeps dont notice, but if you put milk in it vs another similar priced tequila, the difference in how the milk settles is amazing, proving the now high accidity of Patron). Again PLEASE excuse this stupid comparisson, I was just making a point. Thanx to everyone on this board for amazing detailed info. I will call Shire and the FDA tomorow.

So glad I read this!!!! Here is my story. I have been on Adderall XR for about a month. My dr. wanted to do monthly checkups to make sure symptoms did not arise. The medication was a godsend! Last week I went in for my followup and he prescribed me another set. The pharmacy told me they had a generic and if i wanted it for 5$ instead of 200$ (I have really bad insurance :P). Oh course I said I would try it. I had both bottles in my bag because I had not yet finished my regular adderall xr tablets. I grabed a bottle and took one. (did not pay attention to which, of course just like everyone I was told it was the same). OMG I am soo moody, borderline pissed off. and I know it is the medication. I have no reason to be this upset. I cannot study, and I just want to pull my hair out! I looked at the bottle I took and sure enough it was the M.Amphet Salts 20mg. (generic form). I will go back to the pharmacy tomorrow and demand the regular Adderall xr 20mg

I am very happy I found this site today. You all seem to have similar stories to mine and that's relieving because people on the internet are not very helpful. I posted a thread on an ADD forum, got 200+ views, and ONE response. I am very mad about this but anyway.

I was on 10mg IR of either name brand adderall or a generic for a year. I can't remember because it was 3 years ago. Long story short had to move, had no money, and was off meds for a year. FINALLY got a psychiatrist who gave me 20mg Adderall XR script. Upon receiving the bottle it read; "IC Amphetamine Salts 20mg ER CAP". I could not remember if I had generic before or not but disregarded it in the start. (FYI the capsules are orange and are marked with the "M.AMPHET 20" that the rest of you have talked about)

The first few days were great but soon enough The side effects became more and more noticeable and severe.

This time around I get the usual side effects PLUS some lovely psychological ones, and some extra physical ones on the worse days:

Severe anxiety (nervousness, fear, dread, and very uncomfortable feelings), panic attacks (which i’ve only had maybe 3 times over 22 years), irritation, agitation, anger, frustration, and mood swings consisting of variations of these symptoms.

Not only that, I have palpitations, tachycardia, high-blood pressure (blurred vision, tight chest, trouble breathing). The hearing of my heartbeat even though the noise around me is obviously much louder (I forget the med term for this), twitching of legs, hands and other random body parts, pain around my heart, lung, kidney, and liver areas, sweaty palms and upset stomach.

I called my doctor and she assured me that I may just be getting used to the meds and that taking a break for a day or two when the side effects persist would help, and that we would discuss it more during my next appt (2 weeks away).

ALSO the medication seems to effect me different on a day-to-day basis. Being very frustrated with all of this I have persisted to go on forums, answer sites and google search till i’m blue in the face only to be ignored or disregarded or come up empty.

Today I finnally decided to look on the bottle after reading a few posts about peoples’ experiences with the exact generic that I am taking and SURE ENOUGH guess who makes these meds!? TEVA!!!

I’m very glad I found not only this site but a multitude of resources and reviews by other people with the same condition and medication who have had severe adverse reactions to this particular medication (M.Amphet 20 imprint – aka generic adderall XR caps). I will be asking my doctor to help me get either name brand or a different generic after this.

just recently I read an article that said that all generics are not Totally alike ,,,The FDA standards also do not specifically regulate how quickly the medicine reaches peak concentration in the blood. this is a good article management.fortune.cnn.com/2013/01/10/generic-drugs-quality via @FortuneMagazine

I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS THREAD.
I have been on adderall for about 2 years now. I remember the first few months of taking name brand adderall as being absolutely fantastic. The most productive days of my life. For some odd reason, i was prescribed the generic version marked M. Amphet Salts. Ever since then i have been having severe neck and upper-back pain, excessive sweating, and the symptoms of my ADD began to show up again. I will be making sure my next prescription is name brand Adderall. I am so glad i found this.

ok this has happened to me atleast 5 times at 2 different pharmacys. both me and my daughters prescription read Adderall xr DAW because blu care network will not pay for the amphetamine salts. however all 5 times it has happened the pharamacy charged my insurance for name brand which is a few hundred$$ but gave me the m salts. blu care said they are not name brand unless they say Adderall on the capsule and was lodging an investigation into the pharmacy..what I think is odd is in all these posts everybody is only worried about whats wrote on the capsule. now correct me if im wrong but Adderall is a controlled substance right? so why is it that no one on here has mentioned that u are illegally carrying amphetamine salts in a bottle that says they are Adderall. if they were supposed to b amphetamine salts the label would say that.. and I know someone who went to jail for having a flexerall in the wrong bottle...I may b wrong but im pretty sure its a big felony to have a controlled substance in an mismarked bottle.last wk my doctor wrote me a script for loricet the pharmacy filled it with Norco without notifing my doc.could someone tell me what controlled means I think the pharmacys are making there own rules but I am gonna leave a complaint at the website mentioned above one time they sent me home with vyvance in my daughters Adderall bottle and she don't take them till morning so I didn't notice till next day.and also every time I have been given the wrong pill the pharmacy has always taken them back and I know there not supposed to

I found this conversation because I am seeking the same information. Last time I had my Adderall XR 20 filled about CVS, they gave me some blue capsules that did not work for me. So I told my doctor and went to the pharmacy in his building and specified that I wanted the ORANGE capsules. They told me the copy would be $35. So I checked out the capsules and they say M Amphet Salts 20 mg. They are organge, but the markings are different. The label on my bottle says 'Adderall XR 20 mg' and the mfr is Shire. It seems like the XR would have to be marked on the capsules as well. If it isn't the same thing, they are charging the brand name medication copay when you get this. What do you think? I've only taken one dose and they are better than the blue things, that's for sure. But if I'm paying for brand name, that is what I want.

I recently had to change health plans to a large HMO in California. During the transition, my old doctor wrote one month's worth of prescriptions to tide me over until I was able to be seen by the various specialists at the HMO. I had always received 20mg generic adderall and it was written as "Amphetamine Salts COMBO 20,g". When I asked him about the :COMBO" he explained that it was a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (the ingredients in Adderall). He said that if you have a prescription that says Amphetamine Salt 20 mg. or something similar, you are NOT getting the generic equivalent of Adderall and may experience side effects from fillers and the missing compound. Watch out for this as I JUST made this mistake with my new HMO and I've had side aches, headaches and vomiting.

I paid brand price copay for 60 of the 25 mg Global generic but overall, this reminds me of the regular Adderall XR more than anything. I was lucky this time I guess because I have heard reviews of the Actavis generic which both have had some claim it is better and others worse than the others and brand. I checked out the prescribing info and they are the same as Adderall XR. Personally, I don't mind as long as they work but I am under the impression that shire makes this and gives it to the companies (Teva/Barr as well) and they are working great so far. I take 2 with a 30 mg IR tablet (7.5 mg bid as needed and 15 mg in the PM every day) and I am not complaining yet.

I have to say these remind me of the old Adderall XR that I used to get. It is my first dose from 30 mg IR 3 times a day and I am doing okay on it. I am on this really because my doctor is into the XR thing and it calms her paranoia. She said she has 300 lb patients on less than half of what I take but I am her only childhood case also so she doesn't underdose but it still makes me feel bad because she always has some remark about the dose I am on.
