How Long After Taking 16mg Suboxone Can U Take Methadone (Top voted first)

Updated

Hi, I started suboxone yesterday after being on methadone for 3 and half years. I went from 85ml to 30ml. I waited 36hrs before taking my first dose of 8mg yesterday, it made me feel ok but not great. I took 16mg this morning @ 8:30. An hour later I was sick and 5 hours later sick again, I feel like s***! I want to go back to methodone asap!! When would be safe to take some methadone? Honest answers plz. I really do not want to be sick again. I cant handle this! Thanks x.

I have been on 16 milligrams of subutex similar to suboxone for 2 months today I start methadone at 35 million liters this is 24 hours after my last dose of Suboxone and at this moment I'm starting to feel the effects of methadone so in my opinion 24 hours is sufficient time to switch over.

Let Methadone get out of your system before starting suboxone. They don't mix.

I have suffered from major depression my whole life. I'm 60 years old. I've taken many antidepressants, some of which made me even more depressed. I can say, in all honesty, that even if an antidepressant initially worked, it gradually became ineffective after a few months. One psychiatrist kept raising the dose when the antidepressant stopped working. It caused a severe case of hypertension and had to be discontinued. The withdrawal from this antidepressant left me with such horrible symptoms, that I found myself sitting in a hotel room with a shot gun. I am still embarrassed to write about this experience.

I want on Suboxone after I developed an addiction to hydrocodone that was given to me for severe back pain. The hydrocodone wasn't working any more and I wanted to find a solution. To my surprise, the Suboxone not only relieved my back pain, but for the first time in my life, I was free from depression. I've been on a 8-2mg dose twice a day, for more than 5 years. I've been cutting a quarter to a third off each sublingual tab in an attempt to wean myself off this drug. My psychotherapist recommends that I stay on it. My current psychiatrist also doesn't think it would be a good idea to go off this drug, but he doesn't have a license to prescribe Suboxone. My former Suboxone psychiatrist moved out of town.

I live in a small city that is underserved by competent psychiatrists. There are only a few Suboxone providers. My city is radically conservative. Most Suboxone providers here are either blatantly abusive, incompetent, or both.

One psychiatrist, who gave my ex-wife Suboxone, cut her off abruptly after her insurance company wouldn't pay his exorbitant fees. His office visits were over $500 and as a condition of treatment, she had to go to his N/A meetings. He charged $5,000 a month for those meetings. They were led by an old lady with no professional credentials. After he once admitted that he was a former drug addict, I realized that his practice was a money making scheme. My ex-wife ended up in a hospital after trying to take her life from the agony of sudden withdrawal.

I won't go into the other horrible experiences that she had to endure with Suboxone providers in my city. I am afraid of running out of my medication. When I try to cut back too fast, I get severe diarrhea, a rapid heart beat and hypertension. My lipid profile is at a dangerous level. Due to my age and poor physical condition, I am really afraid that cutting off the Suboxone will prove fatal.

I know the prevailing idea that opioid withdrawal is not life threatening. But I know as a fact that some years ago, a young man died in a prison cell, in Suffolk County Long Island, after he was denied medical treatment for his opiate addiction. The autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a lethal heart arrhythmia caused by severe withdrawal symptoms. His family's subsequent legal suit revealed that the prison guards ignored the fact that he was having seizures. He was only in his mid 20s. I am narrating this story to show the reader that my fear is grounded in a factual event. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

AT least 5 days. Or You will be a a horror filled nightmare that will last for days. The Methadone has to be completly out of You. That means all the 1/2 lifes 17-30hour mean 1/2 life, so every say split the difference 24 hours divide whats in your system still. I've had friend litterally have psychotic breaks by not waiting long enough. You also should think if You have any acute pain only 1 drug is strong enough to get through Suboxone, carfentynl, which is 100xs stronger then reg Fentnyl. Please excuse spelling.

Re: Takeasdirected (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Takeasdirected I agree a professional is usually best. I have more hands on exp. then most Doc in a boxs writing for Sub's & hearing from the rep's that so in so hours after is fine. If You want to get tech. Look up the COWS scale for withdrawl. It's very easy to sit & give advise when Your not in the horror of w/d. The Man put up he hadn't found an M.D yet.

Hi Amanda - just incase you might be reading this - hoping you are feeling better - Methadone has a tendency to bind the receptors and stay there quite a bit longer then many or the other narcotics - the other would be Morphine. However - if you are able to wait I believe you will find the Subutex or Suboxone a big plus for you indeed - it takes away any cravings for - it does not make you feel high at all - it can work oddly as an anti-depressant - it is kind of a wonder drug. But yes - it will make you sicker than sick if you take it too soon but please - if you can do try to give it another chance as it works so well and in my opinion absolutely helps to save lives.

Please stick it out, I went in to precipitated withdrawal from taking suboxone too early but I went back on methadone and then decided enough was enough. 3 1/2 weeks in bed was enough to make the suffering the worst possible and then I started suboxone.. I THINK FROM YOUR POST WAITING 3 WEEKS ISNT AN OPTION BUT MAKE YOURSELF SUFFER AT LEAST 4 OR 5 DAYS A WEEK IF POSSIBLE ..YOULL BE SICKER THAN EVER BEFORE IN YOUR LIFE BUT AT 60 MG. OF METHADONE YOU ARE REALLY A FANTASTIC CANDIDATE FOR SUBOXONE. YOU JUST DIDNT WAIT LONG ENOUGH EVEM THOUGH IM SURE YOU FELT TERRIBLE.. TERRIBLE ISNT ENOUGH. EAIT TILL YOU LITERALLY ARE SO SICK YOU CAN MAKE IT 3 MIN...BUT IF YOU PUSH YOURSELF HOUR BY HOUR YOU CAN MAKE IT....SUBOXONE IS SO MUCH BETTER...FOR THE AMOUNT YOU ARE COMNG OFF OF. THE POTENTIAL TO SUCEED IS SO MUCH HIGHER FOR YOU CUZ YOU ARENT ON AN INSANE DOSE OF METHADONE. I WAS ABLE TO GO FROM 250MG 3 WEEKS IN BED AND SICKER THAN A DOG (NOT RECOMMENDED AT THAT DOSE; PEOPLE DONT TRY IT UNLESS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY IF NEEDED IF COMING OF ANYTHING OVER 100 OF METHADONE). MY PCP WASNT HAPPY ABOUT THE STATE I WAS IN BUT 60MG..don't give up please keep trying, don't take any more suboxone or METHADONE for at least 4 to 5 days...ppl. Say 36 hours at least well I have had precipitated withdrawal twice, it sucks and 36 hours is perfect if its Vicodin or percocet. METHADONE REMAINS IN YOUR SYSTEM AND BUILD SO THE HALF LIFE IS EXTREMELY LONG AND EACH DAY YOU DOSE THE MORE THAT IS IN YOUR SYSTEM so coming off (not everyone is the same) 60MG TO MAKE SURE you can safely start suboxone.

Day #1 60mg
Day #2 30
Day #3 15
Day #4 7.5
Day #5 3.75

And so on and thats if you dosed one time only

If it's daily then you have more than 60mg to begin with after dosing day after day so imagine how long it actually takes. LIKE I SAID IM NOT A DOCTOR. IM NOT SAYING EVERYONE TAKES THIS LONG. SOME PPL DON'T.. BUT MOST PPL TAKE LONGER THAN 36 HOURS OFF METHADONE TO DOSE SUBOXONE.. METHADONE IS NOTHING LIKE PERCOCET. SOME PPL CAN DOSE SUBOXONE 24 HOURS AFTER PERCOCET CUZ OF SUCH A SHORT HALF LIFE. EVEN THEN 48 HOURS AT LEAST IS RECOMMENDED so try a 2 mg. of suboxone and you will know if you get sick. It's almost immediate and suboxone will not make YOU SICK. YOU SHOULD FEEL FANTASTIC.... IN 15 MIN time frame is right. you can do it. I didn't think I'd ever after the 2nd time but here i am weaning off years later. best thing i did was suck it up & try again.

Dominque,

Rather then risking life threatening effects and possible over sedation why not consult a professional who can guide you in the proper protocol to follow rather then relying on some random numb nuts who think there a
Expert in pharmacology you will find many delusional characters on here giving bogus information. When dealing with the most powerful opiates, opioids
And opioid replacement agonists its best to let the professionals to help guide you in this transition.
God speed...
