Hi, i am voluntarily drug testing for CPS because my daughter's father (who had physical custody) passed away suddenly due to a motorcycle accident leaving her "without a legal guardian" I have a previous history of using Methamphetamine. I am clean now or so i thought. Yesterday my test apparently showed positive for Methamphetamine. I know i haven't used. So far i have only came up with two possible explanations.
1. I just had to serve my ex boyfriend with a domestic violence restraining order. To make a long story short, not thinking, I ate some fast food that he insisted on leaving for me. And the 2nd being a cold medicine that I just remembered. I took one pill approximately 2 maybe 3 days ago called ST. JOSEPH DECONGESTANT-FREE HBP. Is it possible that this medicine caused a false positive? Thanks in advance for listening and any insight.

Some medications such as adderal which is used for attention defecit disorders can cause a false positive methamphetamine result The dip stick screen typically performed as the first step is fairly cheap and only occasionally gives a wrong answer. These tests were meant to be followed up with a more expensive and more exacting test at a more sophisticated lab. These tests will sort out exactly what substance is present. In addition the results are usually reviewed by a Medical Rebview Officer (MRO)m who has additional training in interpreting results of these tests and sorting out issues that may occur such as the prescence of morphine after ingestion of poppy seeds or what products are typically present when taking prescription medications etc. Hopefuly the additional testing will straighten everything out and your employer or whoever is doing the testing will consult with an expert to tell them what the results mean.

The best/only advise I can give is to get a consult from an MRO. A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a doctor trained to answer question about false positives on drug tests. It could be that the kidney issue could cause problems and interactions with drug tests. Also liver issues might cause interactions with drug tests. You can find an MRO at aamro.com. You didn't say what type of test came up false positive. I am assuming it was urine. If so, you could take a Hair 5 Drug Panel hair drug test which might help your case. If you actually have never done meth I feel safe to say a hair drug test will be negative and since it is not that expensive it's a "no brainer". A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time. A 1.5 inch sample, cut at the scalp line, will go back 90 days. If you take another urine drug test and it comes up positive for meth again be sure to ask if they did a GC/MS confirmation test. I am not a medical professional but there might be a small chance that one or more of those meds might be interfering with the results. Hope this helps.

Confirmation testing with GC/MS (Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry) *should* clear a false positive for meth. But how do you know the lab didn't mix up your sample with some other person's sample. There should be a chain of custody form you signed and/or initialed. Also the specimen jar should have had a security label that you also initialed and dated. If these steps weren't done then you might try disputing the finding.

Two different methods of testing are often employed. The "screening" urine test is relatively cheap and is correct most of the time but is subject to giving a false positive occasinally. The method they use to follow up the "screening" test is much more expensive and higher in complexity and seperates the drugs to identify the exact substance causing the positive reading. All manufacturers of the "screening" testing kits specify that all positives for their test results should be followed up with confirmatory testing to verify or confirm the presence of the drugs detected. If the confirmatory result does not detect the same drugs as the screening test the results of testing should be considered negative. Most often, a portion of the original sample is retained by the testing lab for further testing should the initial screen be positive. The second test is therefore performed on the same specimen as the first. This is standard practice at most testing locations.

I was urine tested by my pain management doctor and it came back positive for methamphetamine. I told the doctor I have a prescription for didrex and asked if that would do it and he did NOT care and refused me as a patient. I was devastated bcuz I have NEVER done methamphetamine and he made me feel like such a loser. I went home and researched it and discovered that didrex would cause a false positive reading. So I contacted his office and he refused to talk to me but his assistant to down the information and talked to him about it but he said it didn't matter what caused it, it was their policy to refuse a patient. Now it is on my medical chart that I was tested positive for methamphetamine and will be passed on to another doctor that I have to find for pain management. I don't know what to do since he won't retest me or talk to me. Any suggestions?

When people call me I tell them about the only thing they can do is take a private hair drug test. A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time and is not like a urine drug test. I don't know if that would help. But it might, going forward, to show a new doctor that you don't have methamphetamine in your system. Also if it was a urine test done by a lab they should have done a GC/MS confirmation test. If they did not you might have some grounds for legal action.

what if by considence when u were in court for child support and a lady had a sezure and his wife took your child to the side...also when you did your drug test another lady had a sezurie you left your urine on the counter while everyone ran outside and the lady went back in to grab a rag to put in her mouth everyone knows not to do that

I take the RX adderall 30mg 2x a daily I have tested positive several times for amphetamines and methamphetamines I'm not sure why and counts are high I do not know what that means but it has got me in alot of trouble with probation and cps don't know what to do?

help! I was scheduled to get off probation July 1st. But something strange is happening. On June 9th, I took a urine drug test at avertest. I had my po meeting june 13, she said results havent come in yet but went on to say that was my last meeting and if results are good I will still get off july 1st. My po called me june 27th, said she finally got my results and that it is positive for opiates!!!! I told her thats not right because I havent taken anything, just my prescripotions and ib profen. She told me to get it retested, so I went to avertest that same day and paid $25 to get it retested. My po called me back June 29th and said I am still positive for opiates as well as for either methadone or methamphetamines!!! WTF! I started crying and said no way. I have not taken anything illegal. Why wouldnt the retest set straight that the opiates was a false positive and why all of a sudden am i testing positive for something else as well that didnt show up on the original test before it got retested?? I have been on probation since July of 2015, a year and not once have i come back positive for anything that i have not done and when I did , which was for tch and etg, I confessed to using it. so I dont know whats going on. Is this something a hair test can clear up? I AM INNOCENT

Maybe the lab mixed up your sample with some other person urine. Did they fill out a chain of custody form? Did you sign a chain of custody form and seal that goes over the specimen container?? If not they might have mixed up the sample. Also on the false positive tests, did they run a confirmation test using GC/MS? Sorry for all the questions but these are some of the critical steps in the process. A hair drug test might help. A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time. Only an MRO (Medical Review Officer) can answer this question accurately. A MRO is a doctor that goes thru extra training to interpret drug testing results etc... My unscientific opinion is that the drugs you are taking should not show up as methamphetamine on a hair drug test. One of the main features of hair drug testing is that is good at isolating the metabolites the lab is testing for so as to have a very low false positive rate.
