Are you familiar with suboxone? It's comparable to Methadone, but much, much better. You need to find a Dr. that's qualified to prescribe it, usually a Psychiatrist is who you need to see. SUBOXONE comes in pill form. You take it 1 time a day. It's taken sublingually, (Under the Tongue). It is a VERY long lasting drug. It won't make you feel high, but it will get you "Well" it's much easier to go to a private Dr than daily or weekly to a clinic. I've been on it for almost 3yrs & I feel "Normal" all the time. It's a mirical drug. It is an Opiate, but works in a much different way, & I can't say enough how much better it is than Methadone. Methadone is garbage compared to Subozone. Do some research on it & it's very easy to find a Dr that will prescribe it. Methadone is extremely difficult to get off of. Just do some research...I'm sure you'll find out that what I'm telling you is so true. I'd rather go thru withdrawals than try to come off as low as 50mg of Methadone...There's all kinds of info on here about suboxone...Check it out.!.!.! Good luck my friend.!.!.!

Hello, Sara! How are you?

And thank you, Herbie, for your very helpful post.

A private doctor cannot prescribe Methadone for addiction treatment, it is against federal law.

If you want to look into Suboxone, as Herbie mentioned, you can check for doctors in you area by using the search engine on the website, Suboxone.com click here.

The FDA lists these medications as narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

However, the issue is that it probably isn't going to be much cheaper, because it's provided by a private doctor and you will still have to pay for your prescription.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or ideas that may help?

Suboxone hit's the ceiling at 32mg. I have been told by a doctor that if you take more than 70mgs of methadone the highest effective suboxone dosage won't be enough. If suboxone doesn't work for you and don't want to go to a clinic for methadone. I would go to a doctor for PAIN management and try 3 day fentanyl patches 150 mcg. Doctors can not prescribe methadone to addicts outside of a clinic.

I have been on methadone for over 20 5 years for severe pain issues. I was seeing a nurse practitioner who was prescribing me methadone and oxycodone for 2 years. during the 25 years they took over 300 U/A's all clean, until the 25th year I was in severe pain and my roommate offered me A 10 milligram morphine tablet, of course I took it. the nurse practitioner that I had been seeing at the time decided that I was not worthy of being pain free, so he decided to detoxify me. in the path 7 months since I was removed from his case load I have spent over $12,000 on pain medications. I have lost over 60 pounds I am 65 years old and I feel like I am dying.I m trying to find a pain clinic or a doctor that will help me with my pain issues. I live in Portland Oregon if anyone out there knows of a doctor or a pain clinic that will help me I would greatly appreciate it. Surgery is out of the question, too old. My bones are not strong enough for surgery and the recovery process would take years. If anyone out there knows of a doctor or pain clinic please reply.

Re: Herbie (# 1)

Are you local to Vancouver/Portland? I would love to find a more-so convenient doctor for myself. Please help.. I was going to lifeline for close to 3 yrs, and left them about 3 yrs ago. Cost me on the ten's of thousands to attend their "recovery" group program, far too involving for an adult with a full-time job to keep up with. 3 yrs was good to me, very good :) - a preemptive thank you for any & all help.
