Doctors That Prescribe Anxiety Medication And Muscle Relaxers

I have a chronic pain condition which is Interstitial cystitis (IC) I will not take oxycodone because I was on it for 4 years and it worked great for my pain but I had to keep upping the dosage and became addicted. So now I am on a different pain medication called the Butrans patch and even though it doesn't help as much as I would like it to, it helps with my daily life. So I am able to still do normal daily things. I also have back pain, I am not sure what it is from but the patch does nothing for that either. I am looking for a doctor who would have no problem prescribing me Zanaflex. I tried it once before and it helped tremendously (along with the patch). My other problem is anxiety, my doctor was prescribing me 2mg xanax twice daily. (My mother went into the appointment and basically convinced my doctor to take me down off of it, because she is anti-prescription) So now my doctor is taking me down and I am suffering extremely bad. I have so much going on in my life right now that I can not handle being taken down on my anxiety medication. So basically, I am looking for a doctor that will prescribe me Zanaflex for my back, and the same dosage of xanax until my stress level goes down which will hopefully within a year. Once my stress level goes down I am more than happy to get off of these stupid anxiety meds, but right now I just can't do it. Please people refer me to the correct doctors that are understanding and would not have a problem with prescribing this medication. This is embarrassing that I am even asking for help, but at this point I don't have a choice. Thank you for your time. You can email me at {edited for privacy}. I live in Pierce County, WA so for example: Puyallup, Sumner, Orting, Tacoma, Lakewood, Gig Harbor, Seattle, Kent, Auburn, Renton, etc. Washington State.

If you are a teen, FYI: Xanax is not recommended for your age group because of abuse. That doesn't mean I NEVER write for a teen. And given your other conditions, a 4mg/day dose of Xanax is no not horrific or horrendous. One suggestion: Xanax is the SHORTEST ACTING of the benzos, so I would rather see you take 1mg QID or 1/2 your 2mg tab BID. You get the most benefit this way from this drug. Just watch that you don't unconsciously up your doses; it's easy to do. Some shrinks would go along with the 2mg BID regimen, but most won't. The 2fg tabs are scored, in any case. Good Luck!

Now I know why my personal dose hasn't increased--I've been on them a little over five years and six works pretty good from day 1 to now.. I guess going through withdrawal every month keeps the dose the same. I'm prescribed four a day but read a couple of posts where folks were on six a day and never had to increase dose so I took six a day starting on my first day of oxy..of course I run out and have one week every month with one to none each day.

Trying to find new Doctor (Insurance) in the Manatee, Florida area. I suffer with Acute Chronic Pain and suffering from this daily knowing what effects my Severe Anxiety creates more Anxiety. I won't knock or blame anyone for becoming addicted to pain meds, for I'm far from perfect. However, I would appreciate & encourage Doctor's to do a back ground check, h..l, I'll even pay for it. If they do a back ground check and see nothing wrong, then they shouldn't reduce my medication. Being on meds for 15+ years, my tolerance is off the chart. Bettyboop, I love your "vacation" idea. I'm gonna try it w/o my doc's knowing. Thank you for sharing that.

Ok back on track. Suffering the way I do, (especially with having PTSD) worrying about getting my refills every time I go to the doc, DOESN'T make life any easier. The INSURANCE COMPANY told my Doctor he had to reduce my meds because I've been on them to long and he had to stop my anxiety meds along with my soma's (back spasms) They have me on my pain meds. So screw the panic attacks and crippling spasms.

Any advice from someone who is going through something simular, any feed back would be completely and totally appreciated.

If you are over the age of 18 it is not legal for another person, even your Mom, to talk to your dr regarding your health care. As a person who lives in a very painful body, I have learned that nobody can possibly know how I feel or what I endure on a daily basis even if they live with me. My pain is our new normal. To be blunt but not meant to be disrespectful, grow up and take charge of your own health care needs. With that said, I wish my Mother were still alive and cared enough to call my dr.....but it is not legal and your dr knows it. You need to make appts without your mothers knowledge and tell your MD not to talk to her about your personal issues. Best of luck with finding an appropriate. Dr for you; it is a continuous uphill battle but worth the battle until you find a good fit.

i have been on oxy 30s for years. The way I keep them effective and dont get addicted is by taking a vacation (more like a trip to hell) one every 9-12 weeks. My family helps me when they know I am doing this. The idea is to slowly cut back your dose until your down to half for 7-10 days. It isnt easy and I would suggest you get help to go through this as all I can do is lay on the couch and cry. But, when the "vacation" is over, my normal dose is effective again. Also, I know from experience never bring mom to your appointment. My mom is the same-anti pill. She wouldnt even give my dad pain meds when he was dying of cancer. She convinced him they were bad and so he suffered tremendously. Try explaining to your doctor that your mom is overprotective bc of everything she hears on the news and that you really are doing bad without your anxiety med.

I'm 24. She's just extremely controlling. If I won't let her come in she calls my doctor on his cell phone. That's why I really badly need to switch to a doctor who will prescribe what I need. :-(

Hello, Alyssa! Sorry about the problems that you're having.

However, the first question I need to ask is, how old are you?

If you're under 18, so your mother can go to a doctor's appointment with you and have a say in what you're prescribed and your treatment options, then that isn't going to change, just because you switch doctors.
