Amitriptyline And Oxycodone (Top voted first)

Updated

I've been taking 7.5mg Oxycodone for my pain after an accident a while ago. I recently was prescribed Amitriptyline 50mg for Anxiety and Depression. Are these 2 drugs safe to take together at there dosages? I've read it has a significant reaction about increasing the level of drowsiness and sedation, but does that mean it can be life threating or just a possible warning?

Re: Hunter (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

What I meant by conditions was things like operating a vehicle or trying to cross busy a busy intersection etc. The medications being combined themselves does not present a danger but it does dull your ability to react to dangerous situations if that makes sense?

Hello HunterOrion,

I did some research and found the same thing you mentioned. According to the FDA the reaction between these two drugs is that they may increase the sedative properties. This was listed as a "moderate" interaction which means it's not life threatening in itself but could be fatal given certain conditions. Whenever you are taking medication that causes you to be drowsy or has sedative properties you are instructed not to operate heavy machinery, this includes operating a vehicle. Being put into this type of state decreases your reaction time and when you are under the influence of these drugs you should be monitored closely to ensure that you are making safe decisions If you are unable to make accommodations for this interaction then I suggest you immediately inform your doctor and try to find an alternate solution.

I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day and let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thank you and I really Appreciate the response. What conditions are you referring to exactly that could be fatal? I'm just trying to figure out if the two doses are okay together taken in separate times of the day?
