Hi Claudia,

Based on information I've gathered, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) does not show up in the basic opiate test which is part of the standard pre-employment drug test. The opiate test tests primarily for morphine (which both codeine and heroin break down into). Hydromorphone does not break down into morphine, therefore it is not detected. As with most substances, hydromorphone is possible to test for, but this is extremely uncommon.

The information above is referenced from:

I hope this helps!

i have a friend who is on probation and gets test twice a week random. . now she took oxycodone for a while and is not sure what dacco tests for but has done research and saw that oxycodone and hydromorphine do not show up as an opiate and only way to test for it is to specifically test for those on it's own. oxy & hydro on their own.
so she couldnt find the hydros and found a 30 mg oxycodone and did two using iv. than the next day did two hydros 8's using the same method as before. she also had not been using the oxycodone bc she had the hydros and only used the 30's bc that is all she could find. she went and bought a home drug test the kind in the cup that you turn on it's side. and it showed up positive for oxycodone and positive for opiates. it's understanable why the oxy showed up but why would it show positive for opi? all she did that week was suboxene oxycodone and hydromorphine. also she did some reseaarch and it said that dilaudid does show up as an opiaite so this is very confusing.

The tests DO show up as opiates! Read this PDF file (below). It tells u everything that u need to know. Some of these people DO NOT know what they are talking about and are incorrect to presume that hydromorphone doesn't show up as an opiate. So, their information is not valid and i take hydromorphone as a Rx so i know what im talking about and have the information from a credible source to back up my statement. Go to this hyperlink for the pdf. hope this clears up the misinformation given!

It has always baffled me what people post as "truth" on this site! Gee, why wouldn't an opiate show up as an opiate in a drug test???
Btw, you cannot take hydrocodone and expect to get away with it when you are prescribed dilaudid (hydromorphone). Yes, the hydrocodone breaks down into different metabolites like all opiates do, but it WILL say the source of the metabolite be it hydromorphone, dilaudid, hydrocodone! I know this because I have seen these results written out! They can detect a plain Tylenol if that is what the Dr wants to test for. And, be sure, nowadays pain management docs are going to test for about every controlled substance under the sun! The new tests are so extremely sensitive that you are not going to be able to say you didn't take something when in fact you did. That's the way it's going, anyway.

Well said Tracy. You told it how it really is and some people are getting burnt listening to those who are not educated with pills and modern testing.
