Watson Brand Oxycodone Vs. Mallinkrodt Brand Oxycodone (Top voted first)

Updated

I have 3 herniated disc in my lower back and severe nerve damage down my leg. I've been on Oxycodone 10/325 for the past 4 years. I have always gotten the Watson brand which would keep my pain under control somewhat up until the other day I was given Mallinkrodt brand because my pharmacy had ran out of Watson. These Oxycodone made by Mallinkrodt don't touch my pain what so ever. It's like taking a sugar pill. I'm in extreme pain and don't know what to do or how to go about this. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

Hi~I actually called Watson & they sold out to a company called Activas. They claim they use the exact same amount of meds in this new one made by activas, however the "way they make it is different!" I have been taking the 10/325 & it has helped, but since I started taking the Activas (formerly Watson) I need 1 & 1/2 pills to help the pain, & I am going to tell my Doctor about this. I have called all over & NO ONE has the OLD Percocet by Watsons anymore. What Activas told me is that THEY WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS NOT WORKING THE SAME, so people NEED to call them & let them know so hopefully they will go back to the way Watson made it before. Their number is #1-800=272-5525 option 2. I have never been constipated on Percocet in the 2 yrs. I have been taking it, but since I started this new Percocet I am ALOT~I am going to tell them that too. I hope this helps. There is NOTHING worse than PAIN!!!

I agree. Mallis r the way to go. Nothing touches them. Endo, watson, nothing. They r labeled m523. If u have these u r in good shape.

Thanks for the info. I also forgot to mention the servere dry mouth and burning in the mouth with the Mallinckrodt. My Pharmacy recently got the Watson brand in and took care of it for me.

I have chronic pain due to multiple herniated bulging discs with pinched nerves and osteoarthritis plus chronic sciatica. I have been on endocet a 30 day supply than witched to Watson generic brand which hardly put a dent in the pain I was experiencing. The only generic brand for oxycodone was Mallinckrodt, but that's just me. They have a longer pain relieving affect. But everybody response differently to medications
Maybe my system adapts to Mallinckrodt cuz i have been on those longer than the others.

I don't agree that it is in her head! I also have severe problems and watson actually does help better than any other generic I have tried. I have also tried some generics that were like taking nothing at all. I have read allot on this subject and have found that some are not actually equal on the pain med side... Now I believe that! It is not right equal should be equal. If it is equal then why is brand so much more pain relieving when you are in the hospital? Just my opinion Good luck to all of us in real pain fighting the battle!

Since they are both generics for Percocet, which contain Oxycodone and Acetaminophen, there is probably a slight difference in the amounts of the active ingredients that they contain, when compared to each other.

Under U.S. federal law, the FDA does allow the generics to differ from the name brand by as much as plus or minus 20% of the active ingredients. They consider this an acceptable therapeutic window and in many cases, the differences aren't significant enough to make a different and be noticeable.

However, with some generic medications, this creates a problem, because since they are only required to measure them against the name brand, this means there can be fluctuations when you switch from one generic to another.

Thus, the one you were taking that was manufactured by Watson may have contained the precise amounts of the active ingredient or, maybe even a little more, but the one that you have received from Mallinckrodt could actually contain less of them, so it may not handle your pain effectively.

And to be honest, we have had many complaints on here about the products manufactured my Mallinckrodt and their not being as effective as the same products from other brands.

The only thing I can suggest is talking to your pharmacy and asking them if they can order the ones manufactured by Watson and provide them for you, when you get your next refill.

DMR76, I actually remember experiencing the same thing, the burning in my mouth, when I used the regular Mallinckrodt Oxycodone and their Morphine tablets. If they just touched my tongue for a second, when I was taking them, the burning sensation from whatever they use in their coating was awful and took quite awhile to go away.

I am very glad your pharmacy was able to remedy the problem for you!

I have been having major issues with Mallinckrodt products. I've research this for a month now and have discovered that the 'inactive' ingredients they use in their generic brands are different from the original manufacturer AND different from other generic producers of the same products. Apparently I'm having a reaction to these. Tell your doctor this and hopefully you will get a new prescription. BE SURE you call around to different pharmacies to see which mfg they are buying from. You can google 'inactive ingredients in Oxycodone/APAP by Mallinckrodt'. The first three links should direct you to the resource that lists them. What I found interesting is that they use ingredients that are not approved by the FDA for FOOD, only drugs and cosmetics! FD&C vs D&C. Good luck!

Re: Fellow back pain victim (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

My opinion is that Endocet generics are made by DuPont who makes the brand and the Endo's are the same as the name brand DuPont only sold as generic. The Mallinckrodt are also the best generic to get if you are on a higher dose that Endo doesn't make. To each his own opinion.

I have been taking pain meds for 25 years and lately, my pain management doctor has prescribed oxycodone 10 mg, by Watson. The problem is every generic brand I’ve tried is absolute garbage. I’ve used Rhodes, KVK Teck and Zydus with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, they are both generic. In generic meds they main ingredient (pain killer) isn't 100%, with some. Pharmacist say they are the same but no they are not. They have to be within only 80% or more of the pain killer. Some are 85%, some more or less 80 - 100 %. Name brand is 100%. Name brand is harder to get. Your doctor has to specifically write on the script medically nec. Endocet is the highest generic I have found. The round white Watson 932 10/325 Oblong yellow pill is the best I've found, then Oblong white. I don't like the round white. Not as effective. When you fill your script specifically ask for Endocet, Oblong YELLOW. They will work better. This is only my opinion. To eaches own, but its worth a try. Good Luck!
