Take This For Bi-polar?? (Top voted first)
UpdatedAnyone have experience with Keppra as a mood stabilizer? I'm taking it, and it seems to help. No side effects. But it is used for epilepsy and seizures in adults.

The medications of choice in the last several years to treat bipolar are anti-seizure meds which seem to have mood stabilization as a possible secondary indication. If you haven't discussed this with your doctor, please do. I've been on various anti-seizure medications for the last couple of years for my bipolar. Some work some don't. As I've found out, there is little in the way of prediction as to whether a given medication might work. Trial and error. You must give them time, I've noted up to 2 months before passing judgement. I'm on Lamictal now with moderate success. This is another anti-seizure medication with mood stablization as a secondary indication. Not all anti-seizure meds have been approved by the FDA to treat bipolar. But your doctor should know which ones are most likely to give positive results. Good luck.
Have you tried depaKote or neurontin, topamax. Lithium for me was bad news as well as other antishcotics. manic depresion is hell I know how it is good luck and god bless you
My daughter who is 7 yrs old has been on this medication for several years now. I have noticed some change in her behavior when she does take this medication. Yet...to also find out that once trying to get weaned off was not such a pretty picture as well. The drug does stabilize her mood swings but..it also contribute to the mood swings too.And that is not a fun thing to experience at night when the whole house is trying to rest and she is having one of her fits of rage, just one of the side effects of this drug.
I too am bi-polar, with the special effects of having seizures as a bonus in case bi-polar wasn't enough to deal with on its own. I've been taking Keppra now for about 8-10 months, and I have noticed my moods aren't real flucuated like they once were before taking the Keppra. Along with Keppra, I also take Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Synthroid as an antidepressant booster, and Seroquel. I am also going to ask if there is a connection to Keppra used for this purpose besides the seizures.
