Seroquel Overview

Quetiapine, marketed as Seroquel among others, is an atypical antipsychotic used for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder.[6][7] It is also sometimes used as a sleep aid due to its sedating effect, but this use is not recommended.[8] It is taken by mouth.[6] Common side effects include sleepiness, constipation, weight gain, and dry mouth.[6] Other side effects include low blood pressure with standing, seizures, prolonged erection, high blood sugar, a...

Medical aid wants to change chronic meds
1 Reply RSS Share
Medical aid wants me to change chronic meds. I'm bipolar and are on Lamitor 300mg, Dopaquel 200mg and Venlor 225mg. They want me to use in their words a "cheaper" medicine like seroquel instead of Venlor despite motivational letters from my psyhiatrist. He is after all the treating specialist that walked a long way with me in getting the right combination that works. I have been on many different ones until I settled with these meds. They refuse to pay for the venlor even though i use the generic efegen. I'm already on Dopaquel which is the same as the Seroquel, in other words it would be a duplication. I don't think this is fair it is after all a PMB condition. Will it have the same effect if I change the meds. I don't want to but would like to know if somebody h...

can i take seroquel with methadone
30 Replies RSS Share
I think I'm having a bad side effect. Like hitters and really bad anxiety. Need help. Please. I'm on 50mg of seroquel and 280 mg methadone daily. ## Hello, Peter! How are you doing? Some caution does need to be taken, when taking these medications together, because they can increase the toxicity of each other, so that could be what's causing your problem. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need them to make a dosage adjustment. ## I am on 101mg of methadone (9yrs) and just got prescribed elival for sleep. Will the elival put me in methadone withdrawal ??? ## You need to get off of seroquel right now, and educate yourself. How can you be so stupid? Combining a tranquilizer strong enough to kill a lion, with methadone? A medication that takes 6 hours to kick it, so you ca...

Can I use expired seroquel
4 Replies RSS Share
My serouqel is expired, how long after expiration can I use it ## Hello, Barb! How are you? This medication doesn't get dangerous, once expired, but it will start to lose effectiveness. How far expired is it? When was it filled? ## Hi, iam taking seroquel 2014 old. is that really bad and how? ## I checked this out too. What I see is Seroquel has a shelf life of 3 years. I recently ran out and am having a tough time getting refills. This is the second time I've run into this problem over the last few months. I found an older bottle of Seroquel from 2014 in my medicine cabinet. And I'm using that with no problem. ## Seroquel due to the way it is compounded is totally ineffective after three years or when it's expiry date claims it expires it is totally ineffective

So many patients taking Seroquel for insomnia - try Melatonin.
1 Reply RSS Share
Hi all, just noticed how many forum posts there are, from 'insomniacs' who have been prescribed antipsychotics like seroquel for sleep issues. Personally, I take a fair amount of medications for my bag of issues also, but just wanted to write something in the hopes it helps someone else.. Melatonin is the thing that makes the tired feeling, the yawn, the nap on the couch, the wake up tired and want to sleep more stuff sort of.. You can run out, deplete, have none, start with none, have a very limited internal supply that dwindles every day... Having always been a 'bad sleeper', I just assumed I didn't need much sleep like everyone ewe I knew..I worked hard and long hours and tired was never an issue.. I'd get exhausted physically and emotionally, mentally feel li...

Weight gain on Seroquel or Trintellix
1 Reply RSS Share
Which is more apt to cause weight gain, Seroquel (400mg) or Trintellix (10mg)? ## Hi Heather, Because everyone's body reacts and responds differently to each and every medication, there is no way to know ahead of time how your body will respond. The only way to find out is to take each medication for a specific period of time through trial and error. However - does list "weight gain" specifically as a side effect of Seroquel; whilst they list nothing of that sort under Trintellix (vortioxetine). So if I had to guess, Seroquel may be more likely to cause weight gain based off this information alone. I hope this helps!

I have been taking Seroquel for a year now for insomnia. Anybody else take Seroquel for this? I have looked around and it doesn't even seem that Seroquel is normally given to someone for this. ## I also have been taking seroquel for insomnia for about a year and a half now.I must say,my D.R tried every sleeping pill out there on me.This is the only thing that has worked for me,i've never had a sleepless nite since. I was also being treated for panic attacks and depression at the time. But all my life I had trouble sleeping,im talking up till 5 or 6 a.m with a million things raceing through my mind(stupid stuff)but not any more. My doc told me that in low doses ,it does work on some people for insomnia. ## Good information ## My son has OCD and was put on Seroquel for sleep. It...

Best generic Seroquel
2 Replies RSS Share
I would like to know which generic brand of Seroquel is most effective and also the brands that are least effective? I recently tried Accord and that wasn't effective. Thank you to anyone who will help me with this. ## My son was also just changed to accord and it isn't working the same. It's so frustrating because I just picked up a 100 days supply. ?? He was on 50 mg before but an orange pill then he tried 300mg but it was too strong so I've been cutting them. When we went to our follow up appointment I was able to get it changed to 3, 50mg tablets so I didn't have to cut them in half, but they're not doing anything. ## Sorry that the Accord isn't working for your son. Let's hope someone will suggest an effective generic for Seroquel.

Cymbalta reviews good or bad?
3 Replies RSS Share
Anyone out know about cymbalta? I've just been put on it a week ago. I was suicidal, not now. They just took me off prozac and put me on cymbalta. I'm praying it works for me... ## I just stopped taking cymbalta and it made me feel like i was going crazy. After i stopped taking it i got really bad migraines from it. Good luck. ## This post is from a long time ago so I am not sure if you will receive the message or not. I am getting ready to stop Cymbalta after a bit over 4 yrs on it. It's so horrid. I know it will be awful coming off, but you have to taper off. It may take a year or more. Something they never told doctors or patients in the past. They lied. A legal suit was settled very quietly earlier this year for it too. Did you know that? That's how nasty these crimi...
