Prolia Side Effects (Page 110)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I don't think the 'bone broth' would be a problem for a Vegan since you are not getting any flesh/meat. All you are getting is the marrow in the bones, be it beef bones or chicken bones. Just make sure the bones are scraped well of any flesh left on them. Preferably, I take supplements and use Calcitonin. The heart trouble with calcium was an isolated case with a male, not a female. Be well~

I agree with poodle. If you buy bone broth protein the work is done for you. Ancient nutrition is the company I get mine from.

Hi Poodle, thanks for this. Yes, bone broth is a problem as it is from an animal, even if it is not meat it is from the bone marrow. But thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it x

Yes, Prolia has been known to deposit bone where it is not supposed to be. Thankfully, yours is not in your eye socket or your sinus area. Even Mayo is confused about what to do when it appears in the eye socket. Definitely BAD drug. Please report all side effects to Amgen or your governmental body. Be well~

Had my first shot on June 3 of this year ( also last shot). First month had muscle pain in arms, legs, neck. My neck felt like there was Velcro inside my neck.I could actually hear it crackling. My hair stared falling out about two months after shot . I think it has slowed down now. I do have emphysema and my shortness of breath was worse. Still is. Very unhappy with this drug. I'm always suspicious of relatively new drugs. I also don't like that it messes with your immune system. I should have done more research beforehand.

I have been receiving Prolia injections for several years now with no side effects. I have been feeling pain in my thigh now for a few months and have now found from a total body bone scan that I have depleted bone mass in my femur and I am in serious danger of having a fracture in this bone. Surgeon will not pin the bone unless it is broken. I am now waiting to see an endocrinologist to be given a drug therapy to rebuild this bone mass which will take quite some time to rebuild. My doctor has had two other patients who have actually fractured their femur caused by the depletion of bone mass caused by Prolia injections. Is it common for this to happen? Will this new treatment work for me?

Re: Kayleen (# 2186) Expand Referenced Message

The only good thing I can say is if it does break, there is a class action suit against Amgen for that particular injury. You are only the second person on this Forum to have or potentially have this specific problem. The previous lady was in Canada. It can and will snap in two for no known reason - just one normal step and that's all it takes. I sincerely hope they are able to help you but if not, know that you can go against Amgen. I don't know the specifics on damages. That is one reason under side effects, it says if you feel a pain around your hip, go to your Dr. or the ER immediately. If you cannot find that attorney yourself, let me know. Be well~

Prolia side effects I've experienced:

Groin pain; fractured L3; muscle, joint & back pain; sensitive gums; headaches; numb legs; a fractured hip; hair loss; pain in my feet.

I'm at a different Dr every week and my only new inj. was Prolia.

I had my Prolia injection a couple weeks ago. Last week I started having ankle and back pain, but it is not too bad. Yesterday I started having tightness in my chest, which I Don't like at all. It is hard to take a deep breath. I was wondering if anyone else has had the tightness and how long it lasts

Re: Sherry (# 2188) Expand Referenced Message

Sherry, I too experienced joint and muscle pain as well as sores in my mouth. I have been off Prolia a little over a year now but still dealing with some side effects. A rotator cuff tear which is slowly improving after 2 cortizone shots and extensive physio. I still see a dental specialist re my mouth problem. Watch your gums as Prolia affects the immune system and I lost a front tooth due to a severe infection even after a treatment with penicillin. I now wear a "flipper" until I get a tooth implant. Only hoping that I won't need a bone graft as well. Take care and from experience things do slowly improve once you go off that horrid Prolia. I have since met people and doctors who have had it even worse and were hospitalized due to such horrendous side effects. And yet, it's still on the market!!go figure!!

Update . It's been five months after my first and last prolia shot. Within the last few days, I've noticed less hair loss, but still have aches in upper thighs when walking. Breathing is still comprised. I have talked to reps at Amgen, still cannot get definitive answers to my questions. I told them the inability to answer questions makes me extremely suspect of this drug. I believe they really don't have answers since they are still waiting for long term studies . SCARY DRUG IMHO

I forgot to mention: My C Reactive Protein is quite elevated. This is a marker for inflammation in the body Inflammation explains many of the symptoms we experience. It took until a couple of weeks ago to find a Dr. who did not treat me like a crank. He ordered the test, and now I am taken more seriously.
This was not elevated before Prolia. Although I was following an anti 8nflammatory food plan, U have found another one that takes it to a higher level, and was developed by a research scientist specializing in inflammatory conditions. It is too soon to see any effect, except that I have not had rashes.

Re: Kayleen (# 2186) Expand Referenced Message

Wow
My question is what is the NEW treatment? It is what we all need instead of Prolia ... I am looking at increasing my HRT and continuing with exercise and calcium intake ... keep us updated...

My dental specialist suggested I not pull any teeth for implant as it spurs the Prolia jaw problem. He said wait to 5 years post Prolia to pull any tooth... very interesting all if this... what we all go through... so different and yet so the same!
Feel vetter, everyone

Re: Jan (# 2194) Expand Referenced Message
There is no 'specific' time to have invasive dental work done after Prolia. When all the side effects have cleared your body, you are safe to go. Some people do better than others with this drug.

I also agree that Amgen does not know the answers to our questions. That is why they are doing a ten year study on it and I kind of believe we are in that study. All of our complaints to them would probably be included in their study. MD's really don't understand us either. All they can do is to attempt to treat the specific problem(s) we are experiencing. Personally, I would love to see Prolia taken off the market in all countries. It's a wonder drug that wasn't. Be well~Pood

Re: Poodle (# 2195) Expand Referenced Message

I had no choice about having my teeth being pulled. They started breaking off at the gum line and I eventually lost all of my top teeth. My doctor still won’t admit that Prolia had anything to do with it. Amazing. Some dentist won’t work on you until the Prolia has left. My oral surgeon says you never get rid of all of it.

Re: Poodle (# 2195) Expand Referenced Message

Poodle, I can't agree more that all of us are Guinea pigs in a study. I also blame some of the doctors who prescribe this because these drug companies offer them very lucrative " incentives". When I spoke to Amgen about my ongoing side effects I was told that they'd never had any other complaints! This is in Canada and I know we have a reputation as being very polite but I certainly know that we also speak up when necessary!

I have posted before but I have had all kinds of things happen since then. No dr. will even listen to me when I mention Prolia. I had osteopenia, never had osteoporosis.
I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was doing good but my rheumatologist decided to give a shot of prolia in May 2016. It has been awful every since. I had a hip replacement 7 yrs. ago never had any problem with it. When she gave me the shot I felt it trying to attach my hip. Tomorrow I see a dr. because the hip feels like it could be a small brake. It's is so painful I can barely get around. I have been to every kind of specialist their is since I was given Prolia. The doctors hasn't found anything yet.

Re: Ann (# 2198) Expand Referenced Message

I certainly identify . it has been difficult getting Dr.'s to listen. My issues just keep compounding. I have a new pain management Dr. and he has taken me seriously. In fact, after he saw me, He saw another patient who had a severe exacerbation of symptoms, plus new ones; now he has another one . He is trying to establish enough evidence to warrant a study.
