How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

You are right. One year. Haha thats the dumbest thing I ever heard. After 24 hours off suboxone you can start feeling opiates

You can feel pain meds the same day you take a sub. If you take a sub that am then after abt 8 hrs you can feel pain meds...Ive done it several times.

I took about 1/4 give or take of an 8mg strip about 8ç30 this morning. If I take a 30mg roxy at 11:00pm, will I feel it or will it be a waist.

I did so much research on this and almost all of it I found to be sort of incorrect. Here's my story on your question: I took about 500mg of oxycodone a day for 6yrs, doc tried me on suboxone then switched back to oxycodone, i took 3 x 8mg strips per day for 8 days on 9th day i only took 1and a half 8mg strips so 12mg last dose at 4am and at 6pm the same night I started feeling sneezy and yukky, asked doc if i was ok to take my oxy he said im good to go so only 14hrs after my last suboxone I took only half a 30mg tablet and 1hr later took the other half and 30 minutes later felt an awesome high i have not felt for 9 days that it used to take 4 x 30mg tablets to give me so everything I read did not seem to apply to me so my advice would be to wait at least 12 hrs, start slow and low, you'll feel it, it won't be wasted trust me, and just for information I'm male 46yrs old 129 lbs, very high metabolism. Anyone who says wait 3 to 5 days is someone that according to my 100% honest true experience put themselves through a long painful wait for nothing. Just start slow and low. The only reason I would advise someone to wait longer than 12 hrs is if they were on subs for an extended period then maybe 24 hrs. Hope this helps someone. I know it would have helped me when I was researching this subject for myself all worried and scared. I wish the best of luck to you suffering souls looking for a bit of relief, comfort and advice. God bless.

TC: No, I am not an MD. I was pre-med at Berkeley, and went into medical research instead. I work with the leading addiction specialist in my state. He was actually the Addiction Specialist for an NBA basketball team for a while, and speaks in front of the State Legislature regarding addiction medicine, as well as other medical issues. I also am a 30 year+ opioid addict, have been on both Methadone and Subutex/Suboxone. So I have been on BOTH sides of it. And when I see people CONSTANTLY posting bad information on here, I just can't help but to reply. All these "experts", putting substances in their bodies, that have NO CLUE what they are doing. And then coming on here and "advising" others with their bad info? Sorry.....NO.

This person is correct. you could take a whole sub an hour later do as many opiates as you want, you won't get dope sick but you won't feel the euphoria either.. Now if you do it the other way around you'll be super dope sick

The most important thing to know is that if you have Suboxone in your system it won't cause withdrawal to take an opiate. Mostly the Suboxone will block the action of the hydrocodone and it won't do much. Opiates are terribly ineffective for dental pain anyway so I would just add one suboxone for after the surgery depending on pain level and that is it. Well besides Ice and Ibuprofen of course. The person who took 6 days without Suboxone before surgery, well that is not good at all and would make the pain difficult to treat.

You can take opiates 5 mins after you take suboxone lol. You just won't feel any euphoria because of the naloxone, but bupe binds stronger to the brain, meaning opiates can't access the brain. When the suboxone makes you feel lazy or no energy or depressed or withdrawal, take a 30mg oxy and I guarantee you'll feel it. But just for example, I'd taper the sub then get on a xanax taper and be clean all together Imo tho.

U only need to wait 12 to 24 hours and the sub will wear off. I'm speaking from experience

U can take opiates 8 hrs after u take subs. It won't make u go into precipitated withdrawal, but u may not feel the opiates yet.

BUDDY123: Yep, that's called Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, and it can drag on and on for a while. The worst part of opioid withdrawal is usually over by 7 to 10 days, but that PAWS just never seems to end. Feeling like you have a low-grade flu with the aches, fatigue, hot/cold, etc. And not getting good sleep is the one thing that would always throw me into a relapse. "I just need ONE night's sleep!!" Check out a product called Synaptamine. Amazing new technology for helping your dopamine receptors get back to normal.

PAINFUL PAIN: The only thing I can tell you is what NOT to do. If you start taking the Demerol, and then take those Subs too soon after that? You will go into Precipitated Withdrawal. Trust me, you DON'T want that on top of what you are already dealing with. And if you take the Demerol AFTER taking your Subs, the Demerol will not help you. The Buprenorphine in the Subs will completely coat your receptors and the Demerol will be useless. You need to talk to your doctor ASAP and figure this out. Because you can NOT take those two things together.

ALLEYC: As TC said, the meds you are taking are called Benzodiazapines, and you are going to be in Benzo withdrawal. This is no joke; if you are on a high enough dose, you may need to be hospitalized for withdrawals. If it gets really bad, I would go to the ER. NO ONE should go through ANY withdrawals without medical assistance, but alcohol, barbiturates and benzos are EXTREMELY dangerous withdrawals and should not be done alone.

I provide this from personal experience of my own and others I know who are or have been on subs. You don't even start sub withdrawal for 5 to 10 days. Acute withdrawals can last 6 to 9 months or more. The minimum I have ever heard of is 60 days. Subs are potent and binding. Think twice and research before putting one under your tongue. This is the most addictive and hardest med to get off of. The lingering effects of this medication are way underestimated and not disclosed by the manufacturer. Suboxone is the only opiate that stores in your fat cells. It provides a miserable and very long lasting withdrawal. Few people are able to take the time to get off. Find an alternative to your addiction other than subs. Sub addiction is the worst.

I agree with this. While on suboxone, I got very sick and was in a lot of pain.
The doctor ordered a shot of morphine, I could not take it..
They gave me a shot if toradol, which did nothing. Well, the doctor wanted to know: why??
I told him, I'm an opiate addict.
I'm off the suboxone, I won't take it again, no regrets. It got me off opiate pain medication. But it's dangerous in case in you get in an accident or something.
I took suboxone for 9 months

You CANNOT go into withdrawls by taking an opiate AFTER a suboxone...it only works the other way around. The only thing that would happen if taking an opiate too soon after suboxone...is nothing, the opiate won't work. This is because buprenorphine is "stronger" so to speak when it comes to the mu recepter. Just had surgery, took my sub24 hrs beforehand, everything went well. Taking my norco meds now, then when script is over, I WILL wait until I feel slight withdrawl to start up suboxone again, because that's where the withdrawl could happen. Suboxone after opiate, not opiate after suboxone.

I'm sorry but this does not make any sense.... three years ago I weaned myself off of suboxone.... I was on it for 8 years...it only took almost three months to stop taking it I was at two 8 mg strips a day at the end before I started weaning and I did not have any problems with it like I said I was at 2 8mg a day first week I dropped it to half so one 8 mg strip a day for a week then cut that in half did that for two weeks then cut in half again.... did the same thing till I was at none when I had stopped taking it I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms at all and I was clean from them for almost a year... then got into another car accident and broke my neck so I am on hydromorphone & contin now but you saying that the suboxone is a life long sentence is bulls***, it sounds like you are just making excuses to stay on it or not work....
