How Did Dea Get Purdue To Cut Their Own Throat?

Updated

Purdue Pharma website has official statement on reformulation of Oxycontin. They claim there is no difference in effectiveness between old OC and new OP labeled pills. They quote The reformulation has met FDA criteria for bioequivalence to the original formulation, which means there is no significant difference in the rate and extent of absorption of the therapeutic ingredient. Then they go on to say, Purdue elected to reformulate OxyContin® to be bioequivalent to the original formulation and in an effort to make the tablet more difficult to manipulate for the purpose of intentional misuse and abuse, however, there is no evidence that the reformulation of OxyContin is less subject to misuse, abuse, diversion, overdose or addiction.
I take 80mg 4/day. (or should say used to take) Now I am scrambling with my doctor to find a replacement that is as effective as the old OC 80's. I know personally that the new formula is at least half as effective controlling my pain. If this new change is not stopping abuse, then why would they need to reformulate it. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL OXYCONTIN THAT WORKS!!!

The DEA did not make the decision or make them do anything. As you quoted from their own website, they made the decision to do it.

There have been many complaints that it does not work as well as the prior formulation, as well as complaints that is causes odd side effects.

I am sorry to read that it is isn't working for you. The only thing I can suggest is to contact both Purdue and the FDA to let them know of the problems you are having with it, at the following numbers:

Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:

888.726.7535

FDA MedWatch number:

800-332-1088

As to alternative medications, there are a few others in a time release formulation. Your doctor will probably have to carefully decide on a dosage that will help control your pain.

One of them is Fentanyl, which is over 80 times stronger than Morphine and comes in a lollipop called Actiq, as well as a time released patch:

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Fentanyl/

Morphine also comes in a time released formulation, the name brand for it is MS Contin:

Are there any questions or comments?

Cut their own throats??

Friend, you need to understand the larger picture and cut through the BS they are spoon feeding all of us in the main stream media.

They did NOT cut their throats or did anyone force Purdue to this end result.

Matter of fact, this was ENTIRELY Purdue's doing and even though I detest the selfish harm they are doing to people, one can not take away from the share genus of their plan.

Here is what I posted else where, in order to help people understand what I'm talking about:

Purdue knew what they were doing by forcing this down everyone's throats.

They now have become the first company in history to be granted the insane status of overlapping patent rights on ONE name brand medicine, their OxyContin® BUT GIVEN THIS RIGHT TO A PRODUCT THAT NOW CAN BE MADE IN TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAYS, IE; INGREDIENTS.

The short of this for those who are still a bit confused:

Purdue was losing their patent protection on their OxyContin® due to legal time limits places on all name brand products (as long as a drug patent lasts, a brand name company enjoys a period of “market exclusivity” or monopoly, in which the company is able to set the price of the drug at a level which maximizes profitability) but now Purdue has a second bite of the pie, so to speak.

Many companies geared up to produce generic oxycontin, many more invested millions preparing for this. Purdue was set to lose it's golden goose once this protection phase was over in a few months (who would pay $400 more on name brand pill, when 6 other generic companies were going to produce the same exact medicine (and yes crushable) for 1/3 the price?)

Purdue, who was just as desperate as some of the poor people here, decided to suddenly play the role of abuse hater and forced this new OP GARBAGE down the throats of as many officials as their considerable weight .

What official wanted to be on the record stating they did not want an almost abuse proof oxy? Not many and Purdue knew it because of what they went through with bad media, so the officials RELUCTANTLY (because many officials knew they were being played) voted in favor to allow Purdue to make their NEW OP's but still legally under the original name of OxyContin®.... which now gives Purdue a whole new patent protection as if it was new! Their GOLDEN GOOSE will be back in play soon enough but not soon enough for the thousands that will have already succumbed to permanent harm or death due this OP change. They are counting on the massive outrage, backlash and unacceptable side effects on this new OP, so in a few months when Purdue is forced to pull the OP's and start selling the original OC again, they will have full patent protection all over again. It's a win win for Purdue no matter what.

The sad part, IS YOU the pain sufferers get f@cked and to a lesser extent the countless companies that spent millions gearing up to produce cheap generic OC's.

I have a shoulder injury that CANNOT be repaired by surgery. I am in incredible pain with the NEW oxcontin. I got relief from them before. I am taking 3 60's daily but these new ones don't even touch the pain now. Will Purdue go back to making the old co's. Would someone let me know. My doc suggested Morphine, heck I don't want on that!

I have been on oxycontin almonst 4 years and poof my pharmacist did not even ask me if this new worthless 80's would be ok! I am in so much pain now and my doctor also wanted to change me over to morphine. What is a good alternative and how much morphine would i have to take to equal 3 80's a day and 4 30's every 6 hours? Help i hurt!

To Suffering:
Do NOT switch to Morphine (MS Contin) it will most likely NOT help you due to the amount (240mgs daily) and length of time you have been on OC 80s.
Oxycontin is more potent, is simply a better, more refined medication and many patients that have attempted to switch to MS Contin are extremely disappointed with it.

An option that MAY help you is Opana, which seems to have some very positive feed back from many CPP's (chronic pain patients)... But please beware, just as many CCP's, who have been very satisfied with Oxycontin, find that NO other (out of hospital) pain medicine can ever replace their OC's.

The only other medication which helps these patients is IV Dilaudid (which has no equal and is the pinnacle of pain medicines), but this can only be administered by a Doctor or in hospital stay (possibly Hospice care but unsure at this time). The pill form of this (above) are worlds apart, so much so that many feel it should not have the same name; I happen to agree.

Also, one would be careful with morphine, as you can be allergic to it and not to oxycontin (Oxycodone), which seems strange to some but it is not so if you understand the issue.

I hope this helps somewhat. Sorry, but the fact remains that the old Oxycontin was nothing short of a Miracle to the vast majority CPP's and trying to replace something on this level is no easy task... you must call, write and document how bad these new OP's truly are (they are an atrocity) and don't stop demanding until they pay attention to the people suffering because of their greed.

My fiance has severe MS and has been on Oxycotin for years. He has tried Opana as have I for a back injury with the only result was putting us to sleep so nothing got done. Opana does nothing for the pain. Dilaudid has even less effect you might as well take aspirin. In the shot forms these are great, in the pill form they are worthless. I was given Dilaudid for my back as a shot in the hospital worked beautifully on my pain so I thought the pill would work if would have to od on them before I felt them work! The current OP's though are not helping my fiance at all. His whole body is riddled in pain and I can't even get him out of bed anymore it hurts him so much! Now I chance bed sores and his body contracting permanently as doing his mobility exercises are bringing tears to his eyes. People who abused OC before are still abusing them! Only now I hear they're using grinders and adding Xanax or other drugs. Abusers will find a way no matter what! Punishing those with illnesses they are dying from and letting them spend the little time they have left is heart wrenching to those of us caring for them also. We have a contract with the pharmacy and doctor and only needed his normal dose. Never asked for more and won't even take extra pain killers from the doctors for surgery ask we are not trying to make him doped up only pain free. This is the most unfair idea any company has ever come up with. Maybe the executives should have to come and see the people they hurt and tend to them for a week. See how they like hearing a grown man cry in pain just to take a bath!

Ask your doctor to avoid prescribing ANY medication made by Purdue.

Please also repost this posting in full in other forums where it has not yet been posted.

Wow, I must be the only person that knows that the DEA and Purdue pharma are one in the same.

I am so sorry that your fiance is having so much difficulty. You're right, abusers will always find a way to abuse, but those who are in need legiitimally are left in trouble! Since he's in such pain, can't the doctor give him a "Bromptons Cocktail", or liquid Vistaril to supplement the Oxy? I will pray for your man.

I am on oxycontin 80's and have been for over 10yrs. They changed it to oxyneo which does not work anywhere near as much as the original, but I also take 20mg oxy IR for breakthrough pain. They have not changed this. Are oxy IR's not the same as oxycontin except they are instant release. If people r abusing oxycontin, can they not abuse oxy IR's the same way? Makes no sense to me!
