Well on going to a Methadone Treatment center i think it's all well but i think that after you are there 2 to 3 years it should be a state Law that they have to start detoxing you off of it. I have been in one for seven years and for the last year i have just got them to really start a good and safe detox. It cost me 341 a month and i was at 110 mg for many years, but now i'm down to 75mg. I have Medicare and a part d plan. But with an Rx Savings Card i can get the 40mg tablets, which i would have to get 60 of the 40mg tablets to equal the 75mg i am taking and go down 5mg every month to safely detox from methadone; and those 60 tablets is 13.00 a month when the treatment program charges me 341.00 a month. Don't you see something is wrong with this? These people are making a killing off of us drug addicts. We were broke and broke down when we went thru the doors and when we leave we will still be broke.

Mandi- Hi! I have someone that you can contact from NAMA-R. (National Association of Medication-Assisted Recovery). He is the state director for NAMA-R Tennessee... AND he happens to live in your area. He's an Advocate for people in recovery, so this is what he does daily- help others with questions, problems, assistance. So look that up- Tenn state director for NAMA-R and you can get in touch that way.

Also, I used to be a Methadone Advocate as well, so this is where my info and knowledge is coming from. I understand what you are going through, as I've been where you are. I had my daughter while on MMT, and I had zero problems. She had no withdrawal symptoms, and we were home after 3 nights in the hospital (we stayed an extra night to make sure she was ok). 40% of women on methadone will have babies that are born with no Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Luckily, I fell in that 40%, but either way, as long as you find someone you are comfortable with and who is knowledgeable about NAS, your baby will be fine as they know how to treat this. The person I spoke of above can help you with that.

I wish you the best! All will work out I'm sure!

Hi, does anyone know of any doctors in Atlanta, Ga that prescribe methadone as a monthly prescription (as opposed to a clinic -not interested in the providers requiring a daily visit and/or the clinics that only see new patients on certain days for very limited early hours). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mari (#50)-
Where are you located? Tramadol is actually prescribed fairly often, are you experiencing issues getting it prescribed? (I have many bottles of it that I haven't taken, that have been Rx'd to me over the years).
Good day-

Hi Dawn- Private Clinic Columbus in Columbus GA., and I would post the phone # but I'm not sure that this site will let me post...but you can pull it up yourself. They are open until 2pm Eastern time today. Also, if you go to SAMHSA.gov and look for their 'Clinic Locator' you can put in the state of GA and they will give a list of all clinics in that state. Good luck!

Bulldog fan,

Hello neighbor...how are you? Opiate Treatment Providers (aka the "Clinic") certainly do not prescribe other medications AT ALL (other than a very few clinics across the country that are attached to a hospital or like setting...but there are only a handful). OTPs only prescribe Methadone and some also now prescribe Buprenorphine. Buprenorphine is another newer medication that is excellent for treating addiction...and can also be given for pain (known as Suboxone, Bunavail, and Zubsolv). You probably could get your husband into an OTP in the Atlanta area, but that would require some deception because OTPs will only take pts that have an addiction to opiates. However, a huge majority of us that are at a clinic started out as pain management patients with another physician first and then became dependent upon those meds and then were "dropped" or left hanging with those doctors because of the huge crackdown on doctors prescribing pain medications. And then, many were left with little alternative other than the "clinic."

If you did want to try to get him into a clinic like the poster below said...he would HAVE to say that he needs it for addiction purposes and not for pain (even though it works great for pain of course). The reason why you are having a problem finding a doctor for your husband is because (*most*) doctors now refer those that need pain management directly to a pain clinic. Otherwise you are mostly SOL. If you still want to try the route of finding a private doctor that will prescribe methadone, your best bet is to be referred into a pain clinic.

I will be happy to answer any questions if I can. I have attended a clinic for 17 years...and probably will for life. My husband also has pain due to lumbar issues. He was on pain meds but didn't want to become more and more dependent on those (as he was becoming), but of course he wanted his pain control. Therefore he actually asked his doctor to prescribe him Suboxone which helps him very much with his pain but for him produces no euphoric effects, and it has done very well for him (only certain doctors can Rx Suboxone/Buprenorphine).

If you would like to explore OTPs in your area (a clinic) or a doctor that prescribes Buprenorphine, you can visit SAMHSA.gov and they are listed by state. You actually happen to be in a GREAT state for Methadone Maintenance Treatment. The state of GA has over 50 clinics, which is A LOT. To give an example, by comparison my state of Alabama has less than 20 clinics and the state of Tennessee has less than 12 clinics. Also in GA, after enough time in treatment you are able to take an entire month's worth of medication home...which many states don't do (mine gives a max of 13 takehome bottles of medication. A "takehome" is a day's worth of Methadone).

Anyway, I know this is a lot of information in one message but I just wanted to give you some idea of whether or not you could even fathom thinking about looking into seeing if a clinic may be a possibility for your husband. I wish you both the very best!

Hi Kadine-
I am so sorry for what has happened to you in the past, I can't imagine how hard that had to be to go through.
A doctor can prescribe Methadone or any other medication that is used for pain, as long as he is prescribing it for PAIN and NOT for maintenance as related to addiction. However, most doctors that once would Rx pain medications for pain management are now mostly referring such patients to Pain Management (a "Pain Clinic") due to restraints that are making it harder for Physicians to prescribe opiates as part of a pain management treatment plan.
So, if I were you I would talk to your doctor and ask if he can refer you to a legitimate pain management clinic/physician, and go from there. I too, am on Methadone for 17 years and I would be nervous if I thought I would not be able to stay on it (though I am now on it for addiction through an OTP (clinic) and we can remain on it as long as we need to be)...as I realize that I may just take it for life.
Kadine, I wish you the very best in the future! Keep us updated as to what happens. I hope you are able to find continued care...as I am sure having to result to a Methadone Clinic (like me) would be a last result (though Colorado does have good clinics...just not a lot of them).
ALL MY BEST!
Amanda

Hello, I'm in colorado. I've been on methadone for over 15 yrs. I was abducted when I was a young girl and woke up in a hospital almost an amputee. There's still that chance everyday. Because of all the complications and problems that are part of my life now I have had surgeries every 3months since that accident. This is why I've been on methadone for such a long time.Problem, my Dr. Cannot perscribe methadone anymore. It's a law that was passed not allowing private Dr,s to perscribe that without a certain license. Which he has chosen It to do. So" .......here I am ....scared ,I've called many Dr.s and they either want to try holistic stuff on me or acupuncture, etc...... My Dr. Said he won't leave me hanging but I know I need to Find another Dr. That will perscribe Methadone. If anyone knows anybody in Colorado please let me know. Have a nice day. Sincerely, appreciated. Kadine.
