Extreme Fatigue On Xarelto
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hello,

Hope someone can help. I've been hitting a wall of fatigue everyday about 1pm to the point where I need to take a 2 hour nap when my daughter is napping and its painful to wake up even after that. I take Xarelto everyday with dinner to treat a DVT. I've been on it 4 months. Is this a known side effect? I tested my theory when I started to realize this began after taking Xarelto and skipped a dose one evening. The following day I didn't need a nap and didnt have that same debilitating exhaustion. I'm only 34 this is no time to be this tired after a full nights sleep! It feels like a crash, an unnatural exhaustion. Thanks!

Re: Jim (# 14) Expand Referenced Message

Did the dr. switch him over to a new medication? My husband has Afib as well. Xeralto is making him so very tired all the time and that isn't like him. Any info would be appreciated.

I starting taking Xarelto about 2 weeks ago and this exhaustion is so debilitating. I also have flu like symptoms. This exhaustion is the worst I can fall asleep anywhere. I actually fell asleep at a red light. I parked my car and called my son to come and get me. Are these side effects normal. I am scared to leave the house. I am afraid I might fall asleep driving and hurt someone. I asked the nurse practitioner and she said it's not a side effect. I see the doctor on Friday and will be telling him to get me off of Xarelto it's not worth the anxiety cans exhaustion like I have never felt before.

Hi I have been on Xarelto for 3 months. It is for a DVT after flying. I am exhausted daily about 2:00pm. I am an athlete and have never been tired in my life. I know it’s the Xarelto

I'm 45 and prescribed medication for a DVT. I have been on Xarelto for 4 weeks and the fatigue is killing me. I am so tired that I can't do basic things and I have also gained 10 lbs. My head is cloudy and my joints & muscles are sore. I feel fragile when I have always been extremely active. I am supposed to only be on a 3 month course, at this rate, I should be up a good 30lbs. :(

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I was taking Xarelto and your right I was so tired I had to lay down a couple of times a day.
Yes also was very, very sick at my stomach. And had t take an extra water pill for the water retention. My Doctor could not understand why. But changed the Xarelto to Eliquis. Don't know how that will do I have only started it this morning. We will see what
happens
Thank you for your replies.

I am (was) a very active 80 yo, placed on Xarelto for atrial fib and pacemaker for episodes of profound badycardia (slow heart rate). I have epiisodes of profound fatigue, mostly in early afternoon and markedly diminished exercise tolerance. Also have problems getting in full complete breaths. Sleep pattern sucks. Cardiologists are understandably reluctant to change anything for fear of stroke. What alternatives do I have?

I found a website you can search for your doctor if they are getting payments from big pharma companies. My doc who put me on xarelto has received $110,000 in payments from them. You may want to see if your doc is working for you or big pharma.

Wow! That's exactly what happens to me only a little later in the day - 3pmish. The fatigue is debilitating. I have to take a nap. I work full time remotely & travel for work. Really is interfering with my job....

Re: Terri (# 51) Expand Referenced Message

I was placed on Xarelto after a cardiac ablation in December 2017. A month into it I am extremely fatigued and in a fog most of the day. I have to remain on Xarelto for three months but if this continues I will stop, as it is definitely the Xarelto that is causing this. The only other med I am taking is a blood pressure pill and I've been on that med for years with no side effects.

Re: Terri (# 49) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Terri - I'm on Warfarin. It's been around forever and there is an antidote to it. The downside is you have to get blood work done to make sure you're in the right range (usually once a week at first, and then just once a month- and there are do-at-home options too but these are pricier).

To me, it's not a big deal, I don't mind the bloodwork. I absolutely hated being on Xarelto and was so glad to find this website. 2 doctors told me there was no way these side effects could be coming from Xarelto, but all the people on here see it differently!

Have been taking Xarelto for about 15 months after a TIA 18 months ago Have experienced renal problems and also extreme fatigue especially limb tiredness. I am mid 80's, active with no previous problems. Since the TIA I have also been taking Statin 10. Is there any way of reducing the mg of Xeralto in the hope of reducing the severity of symptoms?

Re: typeone (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I have the same issues! I’ve been on xarelto for almost 2 months now. For the first month I was on a cordarone, digoxin and xarelto to treat an atrial flutter. I had a cardioversion done a week and a half ago and have since been on xarelto only. I go to bed at about 8:30 (can’t last beyond that) and wake up feeling tired. I am not sure how long more I will be on Xarelto but I keep hoping that my energy level will improve with time. Glad to know that it wasn’t all in my mind!

Thank you for posting, everyone! I suffered under Xarelto for 16 months before finally finding this website. My doctors said it could not be a side effect of Xarelto; but it clearly was.
