Extreme Fatigue

I am taking Diltiazem ER 180 mg a day for atrial fibrillation. My question is whether I can take this in the evening so it does not make me so tired during the day? Thanks.

Hi Charlie,

Based on my research, the dosing indications for Diltiazem ER don't actually specify whether or not you're supposed to take it during the day or at night. It only mentions taking it "once daily" and doesn't really go into any further detail from there.

So in my opinion, it sounds like it should be fine to take it at night as long as you remain consistent with one particular approach. Initially, it's also possible that you may feel a slight difference from altering the timing of your dose, but everything should level out shortly thereafter.

How long have you been taking it? What are you blood pressure and heart rate readings, during the day, after taking it?

If the fatigue is just a side effect of the medication, it should taper off in severity after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. However, there is a chance that it is due to your blood pressure and heart rate dropping too low from the medication, so that does need to be checked out.

Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, increased urination and headache.

You shouldn't change the time of day that your take it, unless you have your doctor's approval, because generally it needs to be taken in the morning, so it can control your condition during the time of day you are most active.

hi im on the er 120 dosage..been on it for 4 days..my doctor said to take it before bed..i have been but the days are horrible with the fatigue..thinking of calling him to see if I should switch to mornings..also does it really take 4 weeks to start getting used to? thanks
