Doriden/glutethimide Availability
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Does anyone know where one could obtain glutethimide or it's brand name Doriden (CIBA Company)? Am in Canada where Doriden was discontinued in late 1980s and I was told Doriden discontinue was international. Perhaps there is now a generic form containing glutethimide available now as I would assume CIBA trademark rights would have by now expired. As the benzodiazapine replacement meds for Doriden are more addictive and dangerous (especially if mixing with alcohol & other drugs) it sure would be great to be able to go back to Doriden or glutethimide which were more effective and safer. A shame that the public was switched over to benzodiazipines (i.e. lorazapam, diazapam) when a better/safer product was available all in the name of profits and economics. Any help out there is most appreciated.

Re: Joseph (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Your are right Joseph. They were sold illicitly in manhattan. They would hit their fist together at the cars where people were looking. Very addictive.

Re: Joseph (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

No, they were called "Loads" or "Doors and Fours".

You sound very confused and unfamiliar with the actual slang name of this drug.

They were discontinued in the US I in "93. Doriden and codeine were very popular in my area.

I am sorry to say that you'll probably will never find a Doriden tablet ever again in your lifetime. And they were so widely available at one time. Dors & Fours!

Re: Fred (# 124) Expand Referenced Message

Soma (Carisprodol) is a CYPD26 liver enzyme inducer like Glutethimide and there is a Soma compound with codeine that's also made. It took the government about 40 years to make it a controlled substance, schedule 4. You see Carisprodol turns into the ancient sedative Meprobamate in your body. Meprobamate, which I don't even know if it's still made, was branded as Miltown, and Equanil. It was actually invented by Wyeth IIRC in their R&D labs in Miltown NJ! Anyway, I heard it's close but no cigar. Same thing with Promethazine with codeine syrup. Like I said previously I don't think we'll ever see a Glutethimide tablet ever again in our lifetime. I'm 99.99% sure. West Orange

Re: Fred (# 124) Expand Referenced Message

No Fred it's not the same as aminoglutethimide. The DL stands for delimited, or inactive, usually sold in a very small amount in a milliliter of methanol. Used for research purposes, I don't know on what but I've seen it online before and it's of no value. I wish I could have better news but I don't think we will ever see them again, I'm sorry to say. As for the dark web, many scammers out there, and synthesis of Glutethimide is very complex as compared to the more simpler barbiturates. Try to keep in touch.

Re: Joseph (# 123) Expand Referenced Message

Yes I'm aware of AminoGlutethimide but didn't realize it's one and the same as DL Glutethimide.

No, never been on dark web.

Re: Fred (# 119) Expand Referenced Message

Restek Thames is a laboratory supply company who is in the business of selling gas chromatography tests, which are basically drug screening tests. When a person submits a U/A they are testing for the metabolites of the drug, not the drug itself. The digested remains of the substance, if you will. To do this you need a miniscule amount of the substance, I don't know why anyone would screen for Glutethimide. The government knows best, and they truly care about what you put in your body. It's really sad how they practically forced the few remaining manufacturers to cease. Halsey was willing to continue making Glutethimide as a schedule 2 drug, but the DEA put that ridiculous quota on it of 3 grams, which is about enough for six tablets. Everytime the DEA moves a schedule 3 to a schedule 2 they just mind as well ban the substance completely. Schedule 2 meds come with a lot of draconian rules and regulations with it. The way the government beat the Quaalude epidemic was by banning its precursor Anathrillic Acid, you can not manufacture Methaqualone without it. Have you ever been on the dark web?

Re: Fred (# 119) Expand Referenced Message

That's kind of tricky, usually when you see that they are either talking about 1 MG of Glutethimide in more than 10 milliliters of ethanol (basically alcohol) or some other solution. Or they often mislead people by DL-Glutethimide, which is the breast cancer medication Cytadren, which was developed by none other than Ciba. Despite the similarity in names that's about it. Has no sedative effect or liver enzyme inducer effects at all. Been there and done that a few years after they were discontinued in the US. I can only reminisce about the glory days. You should see some of the cases that I've read about online. One is US vs Lartey, another is US vs Milicia, and US vs Ekinci. Check them out, unbelievable. Fred, I wish I had some good news, the other night I was reading that the FDA just approved a medicine for daytime sedation called Doriden-Sed 100 MG. The article was from 1968. The cartels should do something.

Re: Fred (# 118) Expand Referenced Message

You as well Fred. Like I mentioned I've given up on ever seeing them again. I hear that Soma and codeine comes a little close and Promethazine with codeine does too , although I've never them myself. There is nothing good that is made anymore.

Re: Joseph (# 117) Expand Referenced Message

Just found something but not sure what to make of it.
Look up Restek Thames online. Listed as DL- Glutethimide
Let me know what you make of it. Look to be available in liquid form. For research? Not sure if it's even consumable. It may contain Methanol as well so not really sure what the heck this is.

Wish I could say that I found a source for Doriden (Glutethimide) but I've lost all hope of ever being re-united with Doriden ever again. They were the best, particularly with Codeine #4. The government has to ruin everything, don't forget they know what's best for you

Re: Joseph (# 115) Expand Referenced Message

I have lost all hope of ever finding my beloved Doriden (Glutethimide) again. It was so readily available in the eighties and early nineties but then the government had to get involved and ruin a good thing, like always. There probably is some mom and pop pharmacy in the midwest somewhere that still has them on a dusty old shelf. And they probably would still be good if they were kept cool and out of sunlight. Yes, Doriden and codeine were the best. Nothing can compare to them.

Re: Fred (# 110) Expand Referenced Message

Fentanyl is a super potent, meaning it only takes a tiny amount to be effective, synthetic opioid. A lot of the illicit street stuff is coming from China. Fentanyl is prescribed mostly to cancer patients under the brand names Duragesic, Sublimaze, and a lollipop called Actiq for patients who can't hold down anything in their stomach. It's also available in transdermal patches. As far as Soma (Carisprodol) is concerned some people said that it's kind of like Doriden and like I mentioned before it turns into Miltown (I forget the generic name) in your body. Miltown was actually named after the NJ town where the pharmaceutical company first invented it many moons ago. Equanil was another brand name of it. Nothing good is made any longer, the benzodiazepine family and the Z drugs (Zolpidem is Ambien, Zopiclone is Lunesta or Sonata, I forget which) have totally changed things in the sedative-hypnotic field. Halsey was willing to keep manufacturing Glutethimide as a schedule 2 drug, but the quota set was a laughable 3 grams! Enough for 6 tablets. That was in '93 and Rorer, who owned USV had already discontinued the product and destroyed whatever they had on hand.

Re: Joseph (# 111) Expand Referenced Message

I also heard that Soma is kind of close to Doriden but no cigar. Soma turns into the super old sedative Miltown in your body. They even make Soma with codeine.

Re: Fred (# 110) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, me too Fred. I don't know if you remember me but I am in Essex County also. The two companies that made Glutethimide in Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania were purchased in 2006 (Ranbaxy purchased Terapia, and Egis) and they subsequently discontinued the slow sellers.
