Has anyone been able to get their insurance company to cover this prescription? Our prescription coverage dept refers us to the medical coverage dept, and back and forth they go. It is an RX, but it is considered a 'medical food'...... This is for Alzheimer's ## Hi Neednamenda, How much do they charge you for the Axona 'medical food'? If there's any other way for you to save money, I would consider trying out an Rx Savings Card (such as the one MedsChat offers "here") to help cut the cost of your prescription up front. Therefore if you don't get medical coverage for it, you can still save money in other ways. Also wanted to note that according to the manufacturer, the main ingredient of Axona is 'caprylic triglyceride'; a type of fatty acid fo...

Looks like H86 can be found through a company called Santa Cruz Biotechnology. Says it's insulin-based, is it the kind everyone is talking about on here? I hope this info will help you. ## Where can we get H-86 in New Hampshire, or where can we order it from? My wife has Alzhermer, and I would like to find some meds, so I can keep her for a long time. ## Alzheimers is one of many pathologies, a form of metabolic problem also called inflammatory disease, which is a multi variate process that changes the genetic substructures of cells (the rungs of the DNA ladder). The glial cells are specific structural cells in the brain which hold neuronal cells (the ones that transmit information) in their place. Since mid July 2014 - critical shortage! This past month we have run into a critical shortage of an important Alzheimer medicine called Namenda, which the manufacturer is discontinuing the 5 and 10 mg versions to change over to their 'new' version Namenda XR. Unfortunately, they are supplying NEITHER version of this drug to pharmacies for over the 6 weeks, and the pharmacies are out! (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Costco, RiteAid, Safeway, Giant, Target) MANUFACTURER: FOREST PHARMACEUTICALS. SUPPLIER: MCKESSON. Calling Forest Pharm is useless, they really don't seem to care about the critical shortage of this medication - it is a medication that once you stop it, you can NOT restart it!! That is critical! ## I'm not seeing anything about not being able to restart it, if it...

My husband has been on exelon patch for about three years but his alzheimers is progressing faster at this point I think moving into the severe stage. This medication costs us over $400 per month and that's with our insurance paying for part of it. Our income is going down and we cannot afford for him to take this any longer. Can you safely quit cold turkey, should you cut the patches in half for a month or two. Surely someone has had this problem. What kinds of reactions can we expect to see if he no longer uses the exelon patch? ## Kathleen there are numerous pharmaceutical companies who will give you your medications for free due to financial hardships. Goto the website for the company who makes the medication in question and search for financial hardship or how to get said medic...

Shiney white, small pill, 104 on one side and M on the other side ## This tablet is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 10mgs of Memantine. It is most commonly used to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer's. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, agitation and chest pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does this medication work for treating memory loss? Also, what are the possible side effects associated with long term use? ## My mother has been suffering from cerebral atrophy for the past 6-7 years, and over the last year, she has started showing signs of Alzheimer's. Our doctor has prescribed her Cognix Plus thrice a day for the last 2-3 years. I'm confused about the exact use of Cognix Plus. Recently, another doctor advised me to discontinue its use. So, I would like to know whether it is safe to stop taking Cognix Plus after such a long period, or is it still necessary for her condition? I would greatly appreciate your guidance on this matter as soon as possible. Thank you.

My mom is on pharmapress 10 & takes 1 twice a day, morning and night. Every now and again I've noticed she's taken an extra one(I think she's developing Alzheimer's). What I would like to know is if this can have bad side effects and if so,what would they be? She's 75 years old & her blood pressure was 270/135. The pharmapress has taken it down to 136/85 which the doctors say is normal. Do I need to hide this medication from her. Concerned ## There is a risk of her blood pressure and heart rate dropping too low, if she takes too much. If that occurs, she would probably show danger signs, which the FDA lists as possibly including extreme dizziness, drowsiness, fainting and shallow breathing. If such symptoms are severe enough, it could result in death. Given h...

I'm trying to identify a white round pill imprinted w 445 on one side & nothing on the other, not scored. ## Hello, Jen! How are you? Is the tablet white, or pale yellow? If it's pale yellow, it's manufactured by Caraco Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 10mgs of Donepezil. This medication is most commonly used to treat dementia. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, fainting and mental depression.

My mom who has moderate Alzheimer's is prescribed both 14mg Namenda and 9.5 excel patch. Because of the high price of $351 a month and no noticeable improvement I haven't had her take the namenda for two months. Can we start her back on the same dose of namenda? ## Hello, Brian! How are you? It would be best to double check with her doctor first, to be safe. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including dizziness, headache, constipation and body aches. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking aricept for almost 3 months. I have the regular side effects, night mares, insomnia, etc. However I woke up this morning and had a severe vaginal discharge. Also had it a week ago but assumed it was diarrhea. Apparently it wasnt. I had a hysterectomy 25 years ago and have never had any problems until now. Has anybody had this problem taking aricept? ## Hello, Amy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. Since you've had a hysterectomy, you should definitely have this checked out by your doctor to be safe. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, nasal congestion and hot flashes. Are you on any other medications?

My husband has been taking Aricept 10 mg at bedtime for a year. He had some initial nausea the next morning, but it subsided after he took his dosage earlier the evening before. His dosage has been increased to 10 mg am and pm and he is not tolerating the am dose very well as he's experiencing extreme nausea and vomiting. Would appreciate any suggestions for helping manage these symptoms or at least minimizing them. Thank you. ## Hello, Dmp1273! How are you? Has he tried taking it with food? Aricept can be taken with food, it doesn't have to be taken on an empty stomach, so that may help to minimize the nausea. If his doctor approves, he may also be able to take it with milk to help combat the nausea. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness...

How are you? Yes, those can be normal side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience dry mouth, fear, bladder pain, back pain, increased urination, general feelings of illness, hallucinations, restlessness and shortness of breath. How long have you been taking it? Many side effects will taper off, as your body gets used to the medication but it could take about 4 weeks. I need a Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton Florida pain doctor. My doctor turned out to to be skirting the law and is currently under investigation. When he became tipped off of the investigation the doctor who for six years had been treating me out of the blue started a detox not only on me but also with his other pain patients. This occurred two weeks after my mom lossed her battle of (6) years from Alzheimer's. He never told me why this was occurring. I was so upset by loosing my best friend that I had let my guard down with this doctor. A non - doctor who owned both the doctors office and the pharmacy where I received my prescriptions fedex'ed to my home the next day after I had seen this doctor. I naively bought the pitch by the owner that having my medications dispensed thru h...

My mother in law has had dementia for 15 years. It is getting so bad she doesn't know our names, can hold a conversation. Should she continue receiving Namenda and Donepezil? Also she constantly rubs her face, neck 7 chest. Starting at the top of her forhead with both hands and rubs all the way down to above the breasts. Then repeats as long a she is awake. Any help there ## Hello, Perplexed! How are you? Before making any change to her medications, please consult her doctor. Stopping them could cause her to go down hill at a very fast rate. Donepezil is known by the FDA to cause some psychiatric effects, so that might be what's causing her repeated actions. She may also experience nausea, urinary incontinence, fatigue, sore throat and anemia. Namenda may cause side effects, suc...

Namenda 5mg first and donepezil 5mg now. My mother is 84 and she is jerking constantly could this be a med side effect to those medications? ## Hello, Gigi! How is your mother doing? Yes, it could be due to the Namenda, it's more prone to causing them than the Donepezil, or it could even be due to taking them both. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, constipation, hypertension, dizziness and headache. Have you consulted her doctor?

After taking my second 5mg pill at 8pm, I awoke at 4am with severe vomiting. 0ne to two time per hour for 8 hours. I had to go to an urgent care for medicine to stop the nausea. It's now the day after and I'm sore and uncomfortable. Seems pretty extreme for two pills. I have no problems with any other drugs. I will contact my Doctor tomorrow. Have you heard of any other experiences like mine? ## Hello, Tom! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about what you experienced. Yes, that is extreme. This medication can cause some nausea, as a side effect, but usually not so severely. It may also cause muscle cramps, loss of appetite and insomnia. So far, I've not seen other posts like yours, but I'll not claim to have read all the posts about this medication, since that isn't...
