It is meant to be used for bacterial infections including but limited to: acute otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis, pneumonia, skin infections, urinary tract infections, salmonella, lyme disease, and chlamydia infections. I would not use this medication to treat swollen and painful gums. If you mix a pinch of salt with warm water and rinse out your mouth with it twice a day, it should help to increase blood circulation in the gums and reduce swelling.
