I have frequent uti's. Is it a good idea to take a small dose of an antibiotic daily to ward off infection? ## Hello, Charlotte! How are you? Some people do need to do that, when they get them regularly. Only your doctor can decide if it's right for you to do so, but it's worth asking them about it. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, i'm on 1mg xanax daily, and i have to attend lectures twice a week each lecture lasts 2hrs. I usually doze off during the lectures, how can i stay awake in class? Tks for any advice u can give. Bless u. Regards, Sleepyboy ## If you are on 1 mg of Xanax daily, take it at night? ## My doc just prescribed lorazepam as a replacement for Xanax. The Xanax just knocked me out...FAST. Supposedly, the lorazepam gives a more sustained reduction in anxiety. Not quite so rocket ship up & back down. I don't know about the drowsiness factor yet myself though. Since it's Saturday & I don't have anything critical planned, I'm going to try a mid dose in the range my doc prescribed. I'm really hoping for anxiety reduction WITHOUT the extreme drowsiness/sleepiness that ...

My bro had a tumor removed in 2009. He was prescribed Keppra. 500 mg bid prophalactily to prevent seizure. Fast forward to august of this year 2014 When after a brain scan. A tumor showed he was treated with radiation. Which made him very sick.myaremts came to fl to take care of him.last week someone noticed that his Keppra bottle said 1000 bid. My brother being sick and unaware increased the doss all at once since then his mobility has gone down and has become urinary incontinent. Went from cane to walker to unable to go. Could this be from the sudden increase of Keppra. His dose was in fact doubled all at once. Since I discovered this in speaking with him he said it was always 500 bid and his me over the years said if it works stay with it. If this is the problem how we get him back d...

Hi. Just thought this might help someone. I take suboxone among other medications but sometimes I skip my dose just to avoid its TERRIBLE taste. I almost can't stand it. I imagine others might feel the same. Well there is a solution! I've found that drinking LEMONADE prior to putting the strip under your tongue makes it dissolve faster (from the tangy, sour salivation), helps disguise some of the taste, and drinking it after the dose has dissolved helps remove any more of that awful medicine after taste. Hope this helps someone!

I had a massive headache/migraine and was admitted to the ER Friday afternoon, dosed with morphine around 5 pm and again around 7pm prior to discharge to home. The great thing is that this awful headache resolved within about 6 hours of the last dose; it was the worst I ever had, after two weeks of stiff neck and dull headaches. I will be following up with a neurologist due to my prior history of cervical fusion surgery and rotator cuff tear in left shoulder, and now, evidence of nerve damage or rotator involvement in the right shoulder. I rarely take pain meds because I don't like the way they make me feel; I have managed pain before with tramadol 50 mg. I would like to know if I need to discuss this in a pre-employment drug panel before hand or stop donating plasma? I never donate...

My brother takes Dilantin for epilepsy and was hospitalized and in the process he was perscribed 600 units when he normally takes 260 to 300 units? What can happen to him with the level being 38.7? ## TALK TO THE DOCTOR! Was the usual dose your brother took preventing seizures? If not, that may be why his dosage was increased. If that was not the case, be sure the professionals in charge of his care are keenly aware of the proper dose he should be taking! Balance is very important. I am also epileptic, occassionally I forgt to take my daily dose. When that happens, I have to take the meds I missed in addition to the meds needing to be taken. The extra dosage will cause your brother to sleep deep! He may be drunk the following day or so after this unusually high dose of meds. Starting a ...

The naltrexone in the suboxone does not do anything. It is in there to prevent a user from injecting the suboxone. That is the only way it will have any effect. When you put the suboxone under your tongue the buprenorphine is absorbed, not the naltrexone. The buprenorphine is what blocks other opiates (this is due for its high affinity for the mu opiate receptor.) If you are on a low dose of suboxone (4mg or less) then expect it to block at least partially for 24 hours. I never post but I use these forums to educate myself. I hate reading clearly false posts. Another user that mentioned that the naltrexone blocks for 72 hours has no idea what they are talking about. Can Lamotrigine 150 be cut in quarters to lower the dose? I have many 150mg left and would like to use them up if I can cut into quarters. Please advise. ## Unless your doctor, pharmacist, or specific medication instructions state otherwise, it is safe to do this with any medication that isn't time released. In many cases, our doctors prescribes a higher dose for us, then just has use cut, or break the tablets, since there can be a more significant financial savings by doing so. Lamotrigine is most commonly used to help prevent seizures, and treat some types of depression. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dry mouth, diarrhea, mood changes, and weight loss. Ref: Medline Plus Lamotrigine Is there anything else I can help with?

I just started taking the suboxone...8 mg 3 times a day. I took my first strip. I've taken all three yesterday the last one at around 7 pm. I'm wondering if I take my pill of choice, since I've barely started, will it block it? I was coming off of self medicating myself with methadone for 8 years. I hear that some people get different effects from taking the subs, but it's like taking a super ibuprofen for me. Any info on this would be helpful and I'm a big girl so I only need the facts not the lectures please and thank you. ## Hello, Hazel! How are you? The Buprenorphine in Suboxone has a much stronger hold on your opiate receptors than other narcotics, so it would prevent them from having any effect. That coupled with the Naloxone means that you'd just be wasti...

how often do you take them and how many pills per day? ## Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to treat or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis. And the dosage really depends on the condition being treated and its severity. For mild conditions, such as heartburn, a doctor will usually advise one daily, just before a meal. However, for more severe conditions, a person may require a higher dosage and a doctor will sometimes split it up into 2 daily doses. What has your doctor advised? ## Actually i am having omepraz d capsules for stomach pain i would ask you is there any other substitute for this

can you break a valium tablet in half if the effects are too strong ## Yes, unless a medication is a time released formulation, or you've been given specific instructions not to do so. When something is time released, cutting or breaking it could cause you to receive to much of the medication at once and there are some medications that are specially coated to prevent damage to the esophagus and stomach, which would be defeated by breaking/cutting the tablet. What condition(s) would require a dosage of 800mg. Acyclovir tabs. once or twice a day? ## How many times a day do I take 500mg of Acyclovir and how many days if I have a cold sore? ## Acyclovir/Aciclovir is an antiviral medication, so it may be used to help treat any viral condition ranging from AIDs to herpes, including simplex 1. Learn more Acyclovir details here. As to how often to take it for a cold sore and for how long, you should follow the instructions provided by your doctor. In most cases, however, it won't help much after the cold sore has already erupted. It works better at prevention and should be taken as soon as you start showing the signs of developing one. I took an 1/8 or less of a 8/2mg suboxone. I did not take it to get off opiates but to ease through wds until i get my script filled tomorrow This is my first time ever taking suboxone. Will such a low dose prevent me from feeling my percocet in 20hrs? ## I don't have personal experience on the matter, but I'd imagine that the Suboxone wouldn't have had much time to accumulate in your system since you've only been taking it for a couple days now. According to wiki, the elimination half-life of buprenorphine lies anywhere between 20 to 73 hours (or about 37 hours on avg). If you want to play it safe you should probably give it an extra day and trust your intuition on the timing of your dose. Everyone's metabolism is different, but this way you'd at least know for ...
