My sister delivered a baby boy 15 days ago by c-section. A week later she had seizures for the first time in her life. Her doctor prescribed her Eptoin 100 mg twice day. She was advised to continue breastfeeding her baby. Is it ok to breast feed after taking this tablet?? Will it affect her baby in any way?? ## Eptoin contains the active ingredient Phenytoin. Information I've gathered on this topic states the following: "Because of the low levels of phenytoin in breastmilk, amounts ingested by the infant are small and usually cause no difficulties in breastfed infants when used alone except for rare idiosyncratic reactions. Combination therapy with sedating anticonvulsants may result in infant sedation or withdrawal reactions." Additional precautions note: "Phenytoin can...

I broke my ankle last night and the emergency room prescribed norcos for pain and I advised them multiple time that I exclusively breastfeed my 12 week old and they said it was okay . I'm just wanting to make sure I didn't get bad information . Thanks ahead of time ## Hello, Tara! How are you feeling? The Hydrocodone in this medication has been known to pass through the breast milk to the infant, as reported by the FDA, and it may cause them to be very drowsy, to sleep for long periods of time and to become constipated. There have also been cases of infants getting too much of it and experiencing fatal overdoses. Thus, I think it would be best to consult your personal doctor to see what you can safely take. Is there anything else I can help with?

Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Needing to know risk of breastfeedind while on this medication ## Yes, it can be dangerous, narcotics are secreted in the breast milk and there have been some occurences of the baby being heavily sedated from them or being overdosed. can deanxit be taken if still breastfeeding? ## Source: Lundbeck labs Deanxit drug information (2014) Breast-feeding As flupentixol is found in breast milk in low concentrations it is not likely to affect the infant when therapeutic doses are used. The dose ingested by the infant is less than 0.5% of the weight related maternal dose (in mg/kg). It is not known whether melitracen is excreted in breast milk. However, another tricyclic antidepressant, amitriptyline, is found in breast milk in low concentrations and it is not likely to affect the infant when therapeutic doses are used. The dose ingested by the infant is about 2% of the weight related maternal daily dose (in mg/kg). As melitracen has the same lipophilic properties as amitriptyline, it is assumed that it occurs in breast milk...

Hi , six week's after I gave birth i started to take birth control injection. Since then my baby has a very loose stomach if you don't know u will think it's diarrhoea. And again he doesn't sleep during the day, this is really worring me cos I'm breastfeeding ## That is the normal time it is given and said to be safe for the infant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including weight gain, nausea, dizziness and irregular periods. Many children that are breast fed have very soft, grainy stools. Have you had this checked out by his pediatrician? Sleeping can be a whole different issue. How active is he?

My dr. prescribed Tanganil for me but i'm concerned about taking it when breastfeeding my baby. Is it ok to take it or not while breastfeeding? ## This is one topic I haven't been able to find any information on whatsoever. The active ingredient "Acetylleucine" does not display any detailed information either. Because I can't find any info, I'm assuming that this medication is manufactured outside of the U.S. I did find though that the manufacturer of this drug is Sandoz; but whether or not it is the U.S. based Sandoz or the international company is beyond me. For this reason I would suggest contacting both companies to see if they still make this drug and whether or not you can take it while breastfeeding. The contact link for the international Sandoz is: The co...

I have 4 month old baby. While I'm feeding my baby is it ok for me to take Wysolone for wheezing? Will it affect my kid? ## Hi Kriba! Any medication a mother takes while breastfeeding is passed on 2 the baby. I would ask your Dr., just 2 be safe. But, I think u will b fine. ## So I can take it? ## Hello, Kriba! How are you? Wysolone is a steroid class medication, it isn't going to treat wheezing. It can help with the immune response of some allergic reactions, but it's not an antihistamine that actually treats or prevents allergies. But suppressing your immune system, when you don't need to do so could be very dangerous. Thus, you should talk to your doctor to see what you can take for that, which would be safe while breastfeeding.

My doctor has recently switched me to Lomedia 24 due to cysts on my ovaries. He is hoping that this will shrink the cysts so they don't have to be removed. I did some research on this oral contraceptive and I keep seeing that there is a risk that my breast milk may dry up. My son is 16 months old, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost my milk. I am wondering how great is the risk of losing my milk and what can I do to prevent this? ## Hello, Jenny! How are you? Unfortunately, I can't really find anything on this, however, I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you. Does anyone else know more on this? Did your doctor have any information on it?

Can I take Olivia 787 while breastfeeding? I started having a runny nose 2 days ago and now I have a really stuffy nose. ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Pliva lists it as containing 250mgs of Azithromycin, which is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, diarrhea, and headache. Thus, it will not do anything to treat a cold, and you should not take it, unless your physician has instructed you to do so. Are you on any other medications?

Congratulations on your baby! There are some rare cases where some risk can be associated with taking the Codeine, while breastfeeding, but in most cases, it is considered safe. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, it would be best to inform your pediatrician that you took it and, in the future, if you're only treating a fever, you may just want to ask your doctor about taking Paracetamol by itself.
