Will Fentanyl Show Up In Drug Test As An Opiate (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Man the amount of people who have no clue what they are talking about yet spitting advice on it like they are an expert is bewildering. NO FENTANYL does not show up as an opiate on any test anywhere. In fact the only things that will show up as an opiate are morphine, codeine, and heroin and that is because heroin and morphine metabolize into morphine. Not even oxycodone or hydrocodone can be detected as an opiate they have to be specifically tested for as they metabolize differently, same with methadone, methadone has to be specifically tested for, it will not show up as anything but methadone. So unless the test you are taking is specifically testing for fentanyl then you will be fine. The question is whether or not the test you are taking is testing for fentanyl. I have yet to see a piss test that does test for it. Even if they sent it to a lab for testing they would have to tell the lab what to look for and that they specifically want to know if fentanyl metabolites are present. Anyone that tells you anything different from this has no clue what they are talking about or how opiates and their derivatives are detected after use. Drugs that have been taken are detected by looking for what they metabolize into, in the body and no two drugs metabolize the same unless they are from the same base as I explained in the beginning. Codeine, opium, heroin, and morphine are all detected as opiates because they are all made from opium. An opioid is not made from opium, they just have a somewhat similar structure and create the same effect by binding to the same receptors, but they in no way metabolize into the same metabolites which is essentially the by product of the chemical after the body has processed it. Hope this helps anyone who needs accurate information not just the random ramblings of nonsense.

Nice reply. I had to have my Dr. test specifically for Fentanyl.

I would like to debate this one. I got a blood test and urine test for an upcoming yearly physical. Through the billing dept. that had wrong insurance info, sent me the test results. Now I go to pain management so my regular DR. does not give me any scripts for pain. My pain DR. has me on Fentanyl patches. Here is what it says I have in my system. Cocaine, Heroin, Methadone, Opiates 1 or more, Oxycodone, & Tramadol. I don't even know what Tramadol is. So if you say these things can't show up why do I have this report in front of me? I do not take any street drugs. I take the patches as required and I am just stunned that this is in my system. What's your take DR.?

I'm not a pharmacist but clearly know more than you. For something to test positive for opiates the substance must metabolize into 1 of 2 mstabolites. Coedine and morphine. Semi synthetic opiates like fent oxy methadone hydrocodone do not do this. However drug tests for probation/parole are extremely extensive and can not only tell what's in your system but can tell how much. I know methadone oxygen and hydro are all tested individually on probation drug tests. I don't think fentynol is but I'm not 100% on that so I wouldn't risk it. The safest bet is 1 metric s*** load of kratom, its week but if you can down a half once or twice you'll be pinned. Your other option is fake an injury or if you have cavities go to the er and say it kills and your dentist can't see you for a few days and recommended going to the er. Works every time then when they go to give you a script for perks or vics say they are to strong and ask for tylenol with coedine. A Dr will have no problem downgrading your script. And boom shoe probation your script and you can now legally fail for opiates like the all mighty H. Hope this helps friend I been there

Obviously you don't know what u r talking about bc yes hydrocodone does show up as opiates and oxycodone shows up as oxy. When u get urine tested once a week with a dip stick what do u think is on the test strip??? opiates, oxy, benzo, amphetamine and so forth.

You really don't know what you are talking about. I'm a chemist and he is right.

NOT TRUE. OXYCODONE WILL NOT SHOW UP AS AN OPIATE, UNLESS YOU ARE TAKING A KNOCKOFF OXY (THEYRE EVERYWHERE AND HAVE MORPHINE BASED SUBSTITUTES MOST OF THE TIME). OXYCODONE MUST BE SPECIFICALLY TESTED FOR. THINGS THAT TEST POSITIVE FOR OPI ON A STANDARD 5-12 PANEL URINE TEST ARE HEROIN, MORPHINE, CODEINE, HYDROCODONE, HYDROMORPHONE, AND OPIUM. DONT USE YOUR "LAW ENFORCEMENT" STATUS TO VERIFY ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH DRUGS. COPS ARE NOTORIOUSLY RETARDED WHEN IT COMES TO DRUGS. IM SURE YOU THINK MARIJUANA MAKES PEOPLE TACKLE TRAINS TOO HAHA. ITS LIKE AN AUTO MECHANIC THINKING THEIR JOB QUALIFIES THEM TO DO APPENDECTOMIES....THE FACT THAT YOU ARE LAW ENFORCEMENT IS DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR DRUG KNOWLEDGE

Tomtom if it shows up as fentynal then they are testing for fentynal maybe you go learn something before you make a post. What do you think you're a scientist because you take fentynal?

A standard opiate test will include heroin, codeine, and morphine. All other opiates will be tested in what are called "expanded" opiate tests where each specific drug other than those already mentioned will be added ,either one, several, or all depending on what drug the client wants to test for. The most common add-ons are hydrocodone and oxycodone. Less common add-ons are methadone, buprenorphine, and fentanyl because the tests are cost prohibitive. Hope this helps.

Thank you!!! This post is accurate and the information is true!!! I've since answered my own question. Fentanyl WILL NOT test positive for a regular whatever panel drug test you take. for exsample, I tested NEG for opiates at the hospital (ER), while I was sick AF and trying despretely to get into a treatment center. Again, I tested negative for opiates not once, but twice. Fentanyl has to be tested for SPECIFICALLY!!!!!

No youre wrong. Fentanyl does not show up on a 12 panel test. You are right about the oxycodeine thing though

Human error! And yes, I am drug free and tested positive for 4 drugs!! I am an old lady. I don't go anywhere a drink could be mickied! This is preposterous. It DOES happen. I am NOT being ignorant to anyone, but mistakes can be made at the lab, and during collection. If someone gives us the wrong change back at a store, it is disheartening. A bad drug screen can cause people to go to jail, lose their job, children.... You all get the picture. I know of folks who go to pain management and are treated horribly. Some docs are great. Others have the God syndrome. I know someone who recently died of cancer, they were disgustingly under medicated.

My dr just called for me to come in for random med count & another urinalysis. Last 2 urine tests showed no meds in my system....im on 100 mcg fentanyl patch. Dr thinks im lying about wearing the patch & got nasty with me, saying they won't fill my script because I won't have any withdrawals...btw, i go to the VA hospital

NOT TRUE! I've been abusing fentanyl for years and since it is a synthetic narcotic and not made from opium it does not show up as an opiate. The drug screen has to be specifically tested for fentanyl, methadone, suboxone, etc....

Re: timster (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Wendy, when you take a drug test fentanyl does not show up as an opiate, neither does opana, oxy, ect. They have to test for it specifically. For example, if you look at the drug test they use abbreviations for the drug they are testing for. Fentanyl would say fty on the dip stick, opiates would be opi, oxycodone would be oxy, phencyclidine would be pcp on the dip stick. The reason they have so many different drug tests for the same family of drugs (example heroin, oxy, opana, fentanyl) is because they are not testing for the drug itself. They are testing for the drug's metabolites. What that is, is what your body breaks the drug down to in your body and then it is excreted out into your urine and feces. There is so much false information floating around on these sites, people claiming they are professional drug testing personnel blah blah giving out bad information for drug users to read to try and keep us down and keep them unemployed. Everything I've stated is fact. You can go and do the research on your own if you don't believe me, but I hope this helps someone.

He has no idea what he is taking about. I am a pharmacist and all of the things mentioned (vicodin, seomtimes oxy, and fentanyl) show up as an opiate! Plus there is an extra test for oxycodone specifially, so they will know about that either way!

For Timster, I am glad someone is listening to me. Last year I had just a urine test done as I was starting a new DR. (pain management) and he came in the room and refused to have me as a patient just through the urine test. They tested right on site at there office. And my urine test came back with heroin, oxycodone, cocaine and some other drugs. He thought I was a drug seeker. I was so mad I called my family DR. and told her what happened in which she did tell him my medical history. I use the Fentanyl patches because I can't take most drugs, I am allergic to a lot of things. This Dr. told me to go to rehab and I just told him where he could go. I don't ever take those drugs, and the only other thing I take is otc sinus tablets. I hope people are prepared to get results of some kind. Hopefully for anyone just taking what they are prescribed it only shows up that. I go to my pain DR. next week & I am going to take a copy of the results that were sent to me & find out just how it says I am taking all these illegal drugs. I will post after I see my DR. on the 10-06-15 & tell U what he says.
