Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 6)

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed last week on Thursday. I stopped taking Subutex 2 days before the procedure hoping it would clear my system so that the percocets would work for my post procedure pain. I took the Subutex for 5-6 months pretty regularly. Anywhere from 16 mg to 1mg up and down as I tried to break free from it. I was only able to do so because of my fear of surgery and not being able to get relief. I had switched myself over from Suboxone after getting clean from a 6 year norco addiction. In the past before Suboxone or subutex I could take one Percocet and feel fine. Now even after being off the subutex for over a week the percocets 5-6 of them do absolutely nothing. I was wondering if anyone else had this experiance.... Thanks. Just curious. It sucks when you need pain relief and nothing works. Thank god the worst is over now!

i took 3/4 subutex this morning and took one 1 and 1/2 perc a cpl hrs later and really dnt feel like I got enough subutex it's like 5 hrs since taking the perk do you think it is safe t take more of my subutex now?

You know what guys? It looks to me that noone knows what they are talking about. I came onto this post to see if I could get some answers but now have even more questions. To be honest...everyone on here is an addict just trying to survive from day to day. We all know that the best thing to do is to follow the directions of your physician to the letter. Everyone is sick of the "ride" but noone knows how to get off. I wish all of you the best of luck with your addictions and hope we all succeed with
our wish to stop.

Ok, let me clarify this for everyone. I read all kinds of diluted information on threads like these all the time. Buprenorphine (subutex) is an opiate agonist and antagonist. I have been a paramedic for 5 years and I used to take a high dose of subutex. Here is the deal... taking subutex and a painkiller at the same time, one will cancel the other out. You will not go into withdrawl. The short acting opioid will have a sedative affect if anything. For another opioid to be effective at all while on subutex, a larger dose is all that isnecessary. I do not suggest taking both at the same time. Stagger them. The opioid will not be extremely effective but it wont make you withdrawl. I know this from both first hand experience and treating patients.

The comments I see r f***ing stupid you can take any opiate u wanna take as long as it's after u ate the subutex it would be pointless if it were a suboxone cause suboxone has naloxone in it which blocks the feel good effect of opiates unlike subutex...u will however feel like pure s*** as u were saying if u ate some opiates and then for some jackass reason u ate a suboxone...ppl who do that deserve to get sick

Going from 30mg of methadone to 45mg of Percocet is a HUGE jump! Did the same dr that perscribed the methadone switch your script. Methadone is long lasting so it remains in your system longer and is hard to get off of. Not to scare you, but I had seizures when I cut back from 20mg of Methadone to 5-10mg and the seizures continued for months after I went back up to 20mg. (but this may have been connected to my Lyme Disease, and why I was in methadone to begin with) To get off 10mg of methadone I went into medically supervised detox. Now I'm on time released morphine and oxycodone (Percocet wo Tylenol).

Why the drastic switch in meds? Why weren't you tapered off the methadone and given a lower dosage of Percocet to start? Even after only 6 weeks, you will experience withdrawal symptoms with methadone. Others have said oxycodone withdrawal is the worst, then they have not come off methadone. If you have severe withdrawal symptoms go to your doctor or ER. Believe me, you don't want to have a seizure! If you have any methadone left, I would taper off and take half a Percocet to start. Keep tapering until your down to just a crumb and do the tapered dose for 3 days, then taper again. That's the safest way in my opinion

You are correct, to many Dr. here lol...
The Doctor said you can not take Subox and opiate you will be sick, and that is why he gave me Subutex, you can take an opiate all day on it and you will not feel any of the effects of the opiate.

My previous post warns against the danger of using opiates, but wasn't exactly useful info for the thread. I see a bunch of back and forth and honestly don't know where people are getting some of this info....researched extensively and had very in depth convo with doctor before taking suboxone, so here it is the 100% correct info on this...

Suboxone is the same as Subutex except it contains Naloxone, an opiate blocker. There's such a small amount of Naloxone included it only comes into effect if shot up, which will not allow the user to feel the Buprenorphrine in the Suboxone from shooting. Hence the user doesn't get high from it. Used orally the Naloxone has absolutely no effect and the Buprenorphrine is allowed to do its job. The Bup is such a strong binder to opiate receptors in the brain, it negates any other opiate taken afterwards. Yeah, maybe if you take enough opiates after using Suboxone you'll get some effect, but nothing close to what the high would normally be. Buprenorphrine has about a 36 hour half life, so even a day after the effects of another opiate are very weak. On the other hand, if an opiate is taken and the user is high, and then takes Suboxone, the Buprenorphrine literally kicks the opiate off of the receptors in the brain. Therefore, instead of having the opiate slowly removed from the body with withdrawals slowly kicking in, the user goes from high to a withdrawal state immediately, causing severe acute withdrawal symptom which from all accounts is pure hell.

Summary - Suboxone before opiates you're in the clear, but don't experience very much of a high if any. Opiates before Suboxone, you're going to immediately be thrown into severe withdrawals and want to die. For anyone that's ever been prescribed Suboxone, that's why the doctors wants to wait until the patient is already experiencing withdrawals to avoid the immediate and terrible symptoms.

I just started taking subutex, an I also get lorcet 10/650 and I can tell it helps I usually wake up and take the lorcets then later I take a subutex but I have been getting headaches.but am I wasting precious pain meds I only taken 1of the 2 a day 8mg subutex,should I start taking both my plan is to get clean

I been on subutex for 5 days and I was taking vicodone as well for breakthrough pain but I don't think they were helping, so I jus taken the prescribed 2 a day subutex and it works well I just hope this isn't another ride I wanna get clean. I accept that I can't have 0 pain and that I am an addict time to get my life back..

Yes u can, thats why theres both subutex an suboxone. the subutex does not contain the opiate blocker called naloxone which will make u sick if u combine it with a protagonist opiate.
