Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 12)
UpdatedMy doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?
Just did 4 mg subutex today in 4 1mg doses nasal.....waited two hours just ate 15 mg if vicodone....I feel fine....subutex is not like suboxone....there's no receptor inhibitor in subutex....its just like mixing percs n vikes or morphine n codene...its like mixing ibuprophen with Tylenol.... They don't do anything to diminish the effects it enhances the effects....NO withdrawal...on subutex n any opiate...its just gonna amplify they effect if the subutex.... Be careful you don't want to get your blood serum levels too high u cud stop breathing depending in how high u dose urself..... SUBOXoNE is the one you need to fear...if ur taking subutex I say again subutex....your ok....have a blast! Damn u ppl... Ur Dr. Is correct...they will work together n make a better pain killer.... It's like Pepsi n vodka haha... Yea they mix well....
I have been taking oxycodone for 3 years 3 - 4x day I was not going through withdrawal I was in severe pain someone offered me subutex so I took one hours ago and it helped a lot I felt no withdrawals at all
OMG people are still confiding Suboxone and subutex. super annoying! Subutex does NOT block opiates. They'd in addition to, as far as patients in a pain management plan you make with yours physician. Suboxone blocks because of Naloxone. It's really not rocket science, and I have a feeling some of us are posting while abusing the drugs. Noticed while reading the identical nonsense rantings. DO YOU UNDERSTAND YET? Just talk to your pharmacist... or for god sakes look at the friggen ingredients.
Ok, I am not sure where you people are getting your info at but I'll say this. Subutex does not have an opiate blocker in it. Therefore it will not affect Percocet, Vicodin, or any opioids. Suboxone does have an opiate blocker, and you should avoid taking any opioids with that. Now as far as feeling or not feeling the Percocet if you are prescribed Subutex is something I can't answer completely because everyone is different. I'll just day from my past experience that I have taken both and been fine. I am not a Dr, just a very experienced patient. This is not medical advice.
fact, Buprenorphine can actually block the effects of full opioid agonists and can precipitate withdrawal symptoms if administered to an opioid-addicted individual while a full agonist is in the bloodstream. This is the result of the high affinity Buprenorphine has to the opioid receptors. The affinity refers to the strength of attraction and likelihood of a substance to bind with the opioid receptors. Buprenorphine has a higher affinity than other opioids and as such will compete for the receptor and win. It will "knock off" other opioids and occupy that receptor blocking other opioids from attaching to it. If there is enough Buprenorphine to knock the opioids off the receptors but not enough to occupy and satisfy the receptors, withdrawal symptoms can occur; in which case the treatment is more Buprenorphine until withdrawal symptom...... this is from the fda website on opiate mantainance approved drugs..... this should answer answer any dumb questions.
You only go through withdrawl is you take a sub after the perc. Not vise versa
You are wrong. Subutex does not produce euphoric effects. Obviously you read to much and don't experiment. I've been prescribed for over a year. I'll bet my life on it.
Do I have to go into full withdrawal from opiates before taking subutex?
FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. ...
I was and am an addict was on opanas 40mg 5 times a day for a year straight before that oxys for 5 years. I hit my rock bottom I say "MY" Cause everyone has different rock bottoms and limits. I got on suboxone and was on it for 3 years straight 12 mg. I got kicked out of my program for missing two n/a meetings in a 14 day span they are very strict there. Anyways I drank 1 beer and was put into withdrawl immediately!! For 7 days it was bad. So I thought if I can do that I can come off the suboxone and not worry about finding a dr. Well I went 19 days without nothing and it about killed me. I ended up relapsing. I started taking roxy 30s after a month I knew I had to stop. I immediatly took suboxone after taking my last roxy. 30 min. Later WAS NOT THROWN IN WITHDRAWL! ! Ive also during last year would do roxys then subutex was not thrown into withdrawl! !! My thought of it is the first time coming off suboxone and was thrown into withdrawl was cause I was taking it everyday 3 years straight same dose. Where the other times with suboxone/subutex I was only on short time my body was AS DEPENDENT is my guess. Since all that relapse bs. I have gotten into another program and on suboxone only 3 mg and dosing down!! It has by far one of the worst withdrawals I'd ever had been through. Thos is jud t my personal experience. Thought I would share. It may help a little
You guys are getting your drugs all mixed up. the guy that said he went into withdrawals taking subutex, no he had to be on suboxone. subutex you can take with percs. subutex will not I repeat not put you into withdrawals. lets get it straight. you guys are giving misinformation out there. now suboxone will, but if you wait 12 to 14 hours after your last perc and you take suboxone you will be OK. subutex it does not matter, that is why they came up with subutex. its mainly for opiate users so when they mess up and go back on the opiates they won't get sick. it is making me sick listen to all you guys getting this all screwed up and getting these people all scared and letting them get sick when there is no need to worry. if you have subutex now get it right, subutex is different then suboxone. subutex you don't have to wait, suboxone you do. 12 hours has always worked for me but either a quarter of a strip or a quarter of a pill to start out with then later you can increase, but all you need is a quarter, same with subutex. I only take a quarter of a pill now. get it right folks and know the name of the stuff your taking. subutex is a white pill, suboxone is an orange pill or a orange strip.
So if I've been on 60-80mg of oxycodone for 6 months and took 4mg of subutex today for the first time, last dose of 2mg was st 6pm, could I took oxycodone now and feel it?
Subutex/Suboxone both work the same.. Suboxone has naloxone as an ANTI-ABUSE deterrent but as far as blocking other opiates.. BOTH BLOCK EFFECTS OF OTHER OPIATES.. If you are dependent on opiates and u take either one too soon(without being 12-36hrs into WDs) it WILL throw you into precipitated withdrawal(I speak from experience.. Its HORRIBLE) Plz take my word for it.. Ive been an opiate addict (all forms at some point or another) for almost 10 yrs and have been on subs more times than I can count. I dont wish PWD on anybody.. Worst feeling ever!
If you have a lot of opiates in your system, when you take your first dose of Subutex, the Subutex will compete with, and kick other opiates off the opiate receptors. However, Subutex has 'weaker' opiate effects than methadone - and this reduction in opiate activity may be experienced as withdrawal. As it has been caused by the first dose of Subutex, it is called 'precipitated withdrawal'. You can reduce the likelihood of precipitated withdrawal by:
- lowering the amount of opiates you take before Subutex
- delaying the first dose of Subutex (wait and take it when you are in early stages of opiate WD)
- Starting with low Subutex doses (high doses of S can remove other opiates off receptors and cause GREATER precipitated WD
Thanks for the great info, Bastian! So my next question is... How much is a lower amount of Subutex? At my dosage of about 60-80mg a day of oxycodone, I never abuse the amounts, just take it throughout the day starting at 10am. If I want to get off of these, will I have horrible withdrawals or could I ween off? I'd like to stop altogether and use something else for pain. On a scale from 1-10 how deep am I? I've just never really known. Thanks in advance.
- Tanner
I heard it happen with methadone and subs but not perks and subs.
80 mg of oxy a day is pretty mild.. 400-500 mg is pretty bad.. You could try to taper off but very few ppl actually have the willpower to take even less when they already feel bad. Most subutex are 8mg pills but in your case if you were to wait 24 hrs, or as long as you possibly can, you could take 4 or maybe even 2mg to start. Tapering with subutex/suboxone is much easier because they last so long(half life of 24 hrs)
You would def go through withdrawal though tanner.. I would try switching to subs and taper off that way.. Just make sure u wait as long as u can before taking subs
Exactly what I would have said!
I agree with you.. I was reading all these posts.. I've NEVER repeat NEVER went into withdrawals taking Subutex n opiates. I'm an opiate addict. I am trying to quit taking opiates. So I've got some Subutex. I have slowly tapered myself from the opiates while taking Subutex. I love everything about the opiates but knew it was time to stop taking so much. I went from doing 80 mg of Oxys everyday down to 20 cuz I'm also taking Subutex. N never have I EVER experienced withdrawals. I don't think these people have a clue what they're talking about.
I have been strung out on opiates for 15 years. I take subutex right after opiates and so does my boyfriend and we don't have withdrawal. Now this is with subutex. I have been trying to get off the opiates with subutex but my boyfriend and me neither one have enough energy to work taking subutex. Why is that? Is anyone else like that. He is a construction worker and he has no energy to go to work just taking subutex. We are supposed to take a half of a 8mg pill 3 times a day. It keeps us from s***ting on ourselves or throwing up. I mean it keeps the heavy withdrawals away but we don't feel good at 100% taking subutex. Do you think it's because we are such heavy drug users for so long? We are so up set that the subutex doesn't work like we thought it would. We don't have insurance and have paid out of pocket to see the doctor and to get the subutex filled which isn't cheap. What is every one else's experience with taking the subutex? Do you feel great with energy? Why haven't the subutex worked for us?
