More Advice

Updated

I apologize to anyone who is annoyed with my repetitive posting. I am very serious about starting Suboxone and staying sober (no booze and/or drugs). It is hard to gauge how many people read these posts. I am looking for advice and specifics on the experience of starting suboxone. I made a mistake my first try, had a tough time and honestly, I am scared to try again. If it I don't do it right the second time I fear that I might start to lose faith in the treatment. Those who have time please read the previous post, Advice starting Suboxone, ?s. Please read the replies. Cocopuffs thanks! I am researching this treatment. I am under the supervision of a primary care physician, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist who prescribed this drug. They all know the truth about me and my situation. My psychiatrist has admitted that although he has taken the Suboxone course, rehab is not his specialty. I meet with him soon and want to discuss what I have found on forums like this. I think that there is great information on these sites. From there we will form a plan that seems to fit me. Unfortunately in the meantime I am using. Less and less each day though. Still you never know when you will get caught and end up in jail. This will be my last post asking for advice. Please tell me about your habits, your tolerance, how long you waited before starting Sub, and the result. Any additional info is greatly appreciated, ie: other meds taken at time of induction. COWS scores etc.... My heart goes out to anyone involved in the mess of opiate addiction. By helping each other we can make a difference. Remember honesty. It is the only way.

PATRICK, I AM AS HONEST AS THEY COME!!! I HAVE HAD DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY SINCE AGE 16, I AM 41 NOW. I HAVE BEEN TREATED BY MANY PHYCIATRISTS FOR MANY YEARS TRIED MANY MEDICATIONS. I TAKE NOW AND HAVE TAKEN THE SAME MEDICATION FOR 6 YEARS NOW, THESE ARE XANAX, AND CYMBALTA. I STAYED ON THOSE WHEN I STARTED SABOXONE. XANAX IS ANOTHER PEOPLE SAY IS SO ADDICTIVE & BAD FOR YOU, BUT I CAN AND I HAVE COME OFF XANAX TWICE IN 8 YEARS THE RIGHT WAY UNDER DR'S SUPERVISION, WEANING SLOWLY, IT WAS EASY NO PROBLEM. NOW ABOUT SABOXONE, STOP WASTING YOUR TIME !!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY SABOXONE, I TOOK LORITAB FOR 8 YEARS USING MORE & MORE, I HAVE BACK/SPINE DAMAGE AND THAT WAS ALL THAT WORKED. I FINALLY GOT SCARED ENOUGH TO COME CLEAN AND SEEK HELP, VERY LUCKY FOR ME MY PSYCIATRIST IS (IN CHARGE) HEAD OF STAFF AT A DETOX HOSPITAL IN MY AREA ALSO, HE HAS USED SABOXONE ALOT WITH PATIENTS IN HOSPITAL AND AT HOME DETOXING, YOU JUST SWITCH ONE DAY FROM ONE TO THE OTHER AND YOU DON'T FEEL CRAVINGS AT ALL, YOU FEEL NO WITHDRAL, YOU ARE NOT ANXIOUS, YOU FEEL GREAT, LIKE YOU'RE STILL TAKING LORITAB, ETC. THE GREAT THING WITH SABOXONE IS THAT I HAVE HAD NO, I MEAN NO BACK PAIN SINCE THE DAY I STARTED TREATMENT. MY PAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 10 YEARS IS GONE. I AM INVOLVED IN A MANDATED MENTAL HEALTH COURT FOR A CAR ACCIDENT I WAS IN WHERE THE OTHER DRIVER DIED. I EXCEPTED A PLEA DEAL AND SAID I HIT HIS CAR, INSTEAD OF TAKING THE CHANCE WITH A JURY. I WAS NOT CHARGED WITH BEING ON DRUGS, OR DRUNK ETC. JUST THE ACCIDENT, WELL TAKING THE PLEA REDUCED MY CHARGE FROM VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER TO VEHICULAR HOMICIDE LOWEST (#7) CHARGE, I HAVE TO GO TO THIS COURT MEETING EACH WEEK ALONG WITH PROBATION 5 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS IN HOUSE ARREST WAS MY SENTENCE. THE MENTAL HEALTH COURT WANTS YOU TO COME OFF ANY DRUGS THEY THINK ARE ADDICTIVE. I HAVE SINCE PUT ON SABOXONE 3 MONTHS AGO CUT MY DAILY DOSAGE INHALF SLOWLY, I ASKED MY DR. IF I COULD COME OFF COMPLETLY NOW BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT THIS COURT TO GET INTO MY BUSINESS MUCH. WELL THE DR. SAID NO BECAUSE I HAVE HAD NO PAIN IN MY BACK, MY DR. IS AN EXPERT ABOUT SABOXONE AND, HIS ASSOCIATE CALLED THE COURT TO GIVE THEM SOME KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE DRUG AND HOW IT IS USED FOR OTHER THINGS BESIDES, DRUG ADDICTS.
PEOPLE GET HOOKED ON THESE DRUGS STARTING WITH PAIN KILLERS BECAUSE OF A CRONIC PAIN PROBLEM. DON'T WASTE TIME . I FOUND LIGHT AT THE END OF MY TUNNEL, YOU SHOULD TOO, START SABOXONE A.S.A.P. KATHY , BUFFALO NY

I have been through a spinal fusion and too suffer from chronic back pain. I currently take mscontin/morphine sulphate every day.I take about 150mg morphine a day and have for the last 6 years.

I just scored 9 8mg suboxone tablets from a friend who is on treatment.I took my last 60mg mscontin pill Saturday evening. Sunday morning I ate the first of the suboxone. I only ate a quarter of the suboxone to start out with, as I felt the withdrawal coming on. About 1 pm on Sunday I started to feel anxiety so I took another quarter of the suboxone.Around 6 pm I took another quarter and around 10pm I took the final quarter of the suboxone. I had no withdraw symptom other than anxiety by doing this. I had no nauseousness what so ever.

I did have a rough time sleeping Sunday night as I was very restless. I then took a half a saboxone Sunday night as I couldnt sleep. Once I got that in my system, I was able to sleep. Its now Tuesday morning which is my 3rd day without my morphine pills and I am feeling well. I just took a half of a suboxone this morning. I'll take another half at bedtime.

I have been told when you take the suboxone that it works best placed under the tongue to dissolve.I am told it absorbs into your bloodstream through your tongues underside.

I have found this to be the easiest opiate withdrawal I have been through so far.

I am told that the reason I was experiencing the anxiety was because I failed to take enough of the saboxone to start.I started out with a quarter of a tablet.I should have taken at least a half twice a day rather than a quarter 4 times a day.My buddy's doctor had him take a whole pill in the morning and a whole pill at night. He said he felt NO symptoms under a dose like that. His doctor allows him up to 3 pills a day but he only is using 1 pill a day. Some days he don't take his pills at all which is how I was ably to get these pills from him.

Suboxone is an AMAZING drug to counter react the dependency of opiate drugs.

For those experiencing anxiety, take a hot bath or shower. It helps.

Hope this helps out.

I am a mother of three darling boys. I was addicted to norco for about uhhh a good 3 years. Went to different doctors to get as much as I could. I knew the ways to cut corners around them and the pharmacy's. I was about my sneaky ways when I went into my Dr visit to get more when she gave me a phone number to a Dr that he himself was addicted to pain meds. I thought well it couldn't hurt. After talking to this new Dr, one of the first things he said to me was does norco give you energy? I knew at that very moment that he knows what Im going through. The conversation ended with him saying I will get you out of pill prison and back with your family And that is exactly what he did. I have now not taken a pill in 62 days. I don't even think about them, or crave them or withdrawal from them anymore. I forgot what normal felt like and guess what? its not that bad. Suboxone works!!! I did learn that it is not your fault that your so addicted to opiates. Your brain is sensitive to them and over time the opiate will train your brain to lie, cheat and steal to get more. You can't quit cold turkey it will never happen the opiate controls you. Trust me and trust Suboxone.

Patrick- My heart goes out to you. I feel like we are in the same boat... I can't get into the clinic until August 15th because the demand for suboxone in my area is so high, and they don't have many new patient openings. I put myself on the waiting list and cross my fingers every day, hoping a phone call will come and I can start the treatment. I know many people who have done the rehab and suboxone treatment, and it has helped them move on and live their lives. For others, they just keep using. The medication works, but you have to want to get clean too, otherwise whats to stop you from using? Methodone is the other alternative but I wouldn't recomment it. Its basically like trading one addiction for another, an uglier one. My best friends mother has been addicted to opiates since we were young kids. A few years ago she started going to the methodone clinic every morning. She would have to go the moment she woke up and it wasn't any better than the oxy. She finally decided to try the suboxone and says that it is the first time ever in her life that she hasn't had to rely on a medication to get through the day. She is happy, healthy, and ready to move on and live her life.

I was on norco and lortab for about 4 years. I was taking 30-40 10/325 or /500 a day. I had maxed out our credit cards and put us deep in debt. I went through detox at a place that gave subutex. Yea, I went 3 times. They wait till wd's start then give u the meds. There was no local dr who gave the meds when I got out and I had to drive over an hour each way to continue. I was given subuxone. It is wonderful for beating wd's. When I moved again no local dr so I had to drive about 30 mins each way. This dr increased my dosage to help control my pain. Make sure you put them under your tongue as they will not work if you swallow them. Give them another shot. They are good meds to get off the opiates. Also, I have battled mental health issues all my life. Starting in detox and after I was given Wellbutrin and Abilify. This seems to be a good combination for me. Good luck

Joan, I was told that yes, this is normal. While in detox the first time I just plain broke down. Crying and boo-hooing for no reason. I had a quick temper too. I was told that this was normal as the drugs had been surpressing my feelings and they were now all coming out. Not a comfortable thing to go through. Take care

I was in active addiction for 9 years, i went to rehab last April and they put me on suboxone, ive been ok for a year now...goin to meetings and taking my med, this medicine will mess w/ your mind. I am now tryin to ween off and its the hardest thing ive ever done. So my advice is to stick to the lowest mgs possible of suboxone. Because when it's time to come off you won't b in as much withdrawl as u wuld w/ a higher dose. I was taking up 2 30 lortabs a day plus watever else i culd do and now coming off suboxone feels pretty dam bad. But it did help. I'd just suggest a low dosage. i was taking 16 mgs of suboxone a day, now im down to 4 and 2 cause im weening..but Good luck, we all can get thru this. One day at a time. NA MEETINGS DO HELP i go everyday and do stepwork and know things will get better. Just don't use the medicine as a crutch cause it will come a time when you have to come off, and it's hard if you don't do it right.

Patrick, I applaud your desire to get sober. and was impressed that you were honest about using again. after 15 years of losing jobs, friends, my health and then my freedom I finally realized I needed help. I went to a long-term treatment facility. Some people go to NA or AA: but stick with a program and you can get clean and sober. After 2 years of sobriety I started getting excruitating headaches. Now I have to take lortab to function and it scares me. But I will be ok because of my strong foundation in recovery. you can get sober, Patrick. Ive taken suboxine and it helped my pain. I'm currently considering changing to it as long as my doctor thinks its safe for me. I wish you luck. Getting sober isn't easy but you ARE WORTH IT!!
