Do not chew the fentanyl patch. I have a friend who's husband was using them for a bad car accident. Their daughter stole a patch chewed it and died. She was 20 years old with a daughter she will never know. Please don't chew them, your family is the ones who suffer.

I've heard nurses talk.. in fact I lived with two. (my parents) and I can guarantee you they are labeling people as pain pill seekers..etc.. but it's not because of your race or color, male or female... they just do it. I've had it done before, my mother has had it done before and we both have legitimate issues with real doctors treating us. As soon as you go into a hospital ER and tell them you are in pain therapy they start thinking about it.

I've done it before.. don't do it! It's not worth the short feeling you get with the risk of death.... just wear it like your supposed to do, because the withdrawals are HORRIBLE otherwise.

I want to Thank everybody for not being racist's HERE THAT IS - - - Okay I got - what they said was - - - Pancreatitis - - - 6 days no water food - curleed up in pain - before even going to the doc - Didn't go to a Native Hospital either - I heard - I should stop drinking - and should go to church - change who I am - But not being a drinker - I was hearing re-inforcing words - on their just racist - have already pre-judged me - They eventually found out it was - with the standard tests - lots of acid in my system - - - IT WAS - DKA - diabetic ketoacidosis - also I had to give up the patches - was burning my skin - and glad - I have found a clinic - That actually listens to me -

I'm sorry you had to go through all that. Whether they are prejudging you based on race or not, it's hurtful and just wrong. There are many out there who abuse drugs and it's because of those people that so many are now prejudging those of us who have legitimate problems. One hospital ER let me sit out in the waiting room with a severe headache, vomiting and EXTREMELY high blood pressure. I have learned since that those can be signs of withdrawal and I guess they assumed that was it, even though I told them I get headaches occasionally from a neck injury I had, that I had pain medication ALREADY but it just wasn't getting a hold of it this time, and high blood pressure......... that goes up when I'm in pain!!! They didn't care. I went back up to the triage to have her check my BP again and it was so high I was shocked that they just had me go sit back down and did nothing. They were taking other patients less serious and after at least 9 or 10 hours, my parents came and got me and took me to another hospital down the street. Sad thing is, the hospital I was at was where my father worked and they still treated me like that. The minute I went in to the other hospital, they took one look at me, took my BP It was so high I was in danger of stroking they said and took me right back IMMEDIATELY!! The doctor came in ASAP and they gave me some shot that took the headache away and medication for my BP and got my head to where it was then tolerable and I could go home and control with the medication I had. I had been there a couple times before and it was the only ER I ever went to... until after that. They obviously had me down as a drug seeker.. even though I told them upfront I wasn't needing pain medication, just help getting rid of the headache.
I'm glad to hear you finally got a place that is good to you! Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear you had to go through that too. But whats weird - the people - that are known druggies - They get anything they want - seems like - and then if we do go to another place - then it's doctor shopping for drugs - and with the neck you have and I got one too - lot of times waking up - I say a little prayer - plz let me be able to do something today -

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 17 years, I have Diabetic Neuropathy, have broken my back and tail bone, I've had an abscess in my lower back the size of a baseball and lived, I survived 2 grand-mull seizures, and I suffer from migraines. I am 33 years old. I wake up every day with more pain than most people will live through, I know what pain is. I also know that all pain can be treated, prevented, and solved. Narcotic pain medication is my most worst pain I suffer as it takes the soul of my happiness and turns me into a mellow guy. Since 2008 I've taken some sort of pain medication. I know more about it than again the average joe.
I am a firm believer that all pain can be channeled and worked on through alternative practice and efforts if one were so inclined. Even as I wear a Fentanyl patch right now, I am working on changing my treatment with my doctor as we continue to lower, change, and slow down my amounts of this garbage that I take.

My previous post was stating I know what pain is as someone commented on a previous post stating I didn't know what true pain was because I said all pain can be treated without the use of strong narcotics. I said Treated. Not all can be solved and taken away but as a 8 year term of taking Narcotics and dealing with its ups and downs... I wish no one to ever get taking it regularly. Especially to the point where they get a fentanyl patch and chew it.

But, I am a firm believer that all pain can be prevented, handled, channeled, and dealt with under the right mindset. I understand a broken back hurts and I understand a broken then healed body part are never the same, I just feel the stern and achy pain from long terms of it can be dealt with versus covering it with pain medication. Being that the person has the willpower and strength. Yes es not all pain is curable, but my main point is... that too many people take mediocre pain and treat it with severe chronic pain treatment... which leads to the exact label of this conversation, I****s chewing Fentanyl patches...

I take a #100 fentanyl patch. Recently my doctor told me there was a new law that we have to turn in our used patches before they will release the new script. They say people chew the old ones. Wouldn't their efect be gone after three days on my arm?

I agree most people who are taking pain medication could learn to control it with alternative methods.. heavy narcotic medication should be a last resort. We are a lot stronger than we give ourselves credit. If you are getting the meds just to chew it, then you really need to check yourself!! If you have the tendency to abuse drugs, then exhausting every other alternative is especially important.

I can't find anything online regarding this. In some ways I think it would help stop many abusers who either use the gel packed patches from cutting them open.. of course they could use a needle, but I think that would be detectable. It wouldn't stop those who just put them in their mouth though, which is very dangerous!! It would hold you accountable to not selling them though. I don't believe this to be a law at all, just maybe your doctor's own rule? Who knows.. time will tell. It could be potentially dangerous holding on to used patches though as well if you have little ones around.

NO. Absolutely not. This medication is to be taken as prescribed and they mean it. I have same exact patch and it says to leave on for 72 hours. Am I correct? Of course. Meanwhile, what this patch is.doing is sending little dosages to your body over that 72 hour period. When finished with that one, cleanse the area and put on new patch
Just hope I'm not too late

Hello there first timer! I'm currently chewing 175 mgms of fentynal patch obviously I cut into 4 as that works best for me. I'm going in to start suboxone tomorrow and my last dose was 6:30 am. I guess my question is if I'm chewing them will the wd sysmtons start sooner? Also will 26 hrs of clean be long enough to start suboxone.

So I just chewed up a 100 mg patch and this is my first time ever even touching a patch. Should I be concerned this is too high of a dose I also swallowed it?

Depends on how tolerant to meds ur are...if u don't take meds often I would be nervous for sure...u might want to call an ER and mention whay u normaly take or what not and explain then see what they think...some people it wouldn't bother and others it would kill so u don't wanna be the latter....good luck

I have been on oxycontin for about 10 years now. I like the new version much better. Somehow they took out the feeling to always checking to see if it was time for another and you always wanted another. So I am glad they changed it. I just recently switched to the patch and .i really like how I have reacted to it. It controls my pain without interference of my daily life. I was immediately put on 100mcg because of my extended use and I can tell you that if you choose to eat or chew these you might as well just commit suicide because that is what is coming. These are not like smoking a joint or taking a hydro. They are a very strong painkiller for people like myself with a disease that causes chronic pain just so we can cope with day to day life. All you people that are thrill seekers are going to end up making it impossible for people like me to get the proper meds. So thanks for screwing it up for really needy people!
