I agree with Mark; There are some ridiculous comments here - rising life etc. Obviously the OP is a long time heroin user - my personal comment would be - when and why did he take suboxone? Did he want to get clean then took the sub too soon, feels ill and so wants to use H again? This sounds likely. In this case then he can use gear whenever he wants - it just wont do much unless he's prepared to risk OD on pinning up a teenth. The longer he waits the more he will get off the gear. After 10 hours after taking 8mg sub, if you are still feeling ill the gear will make you feel much better. Also, for me, mixing the two has a strange effects in as much as my withdrawal symptoms virtually disappear for over 24 hours. Having said that, if he has been on sub for 3 or 4 days or more then it will be well in his blood and the gear will do naff all for at least 24-36 hours. Having said that, he should be feeling better by 24-36 hours anyway. I wish people would preach elswhere. If he wants help he can go to NA. I hope he does. But he just wanted an answer to his question.

Lori-- how in the HELL does this relate to the OP's question? I'm so sick of Christian's trying to convert people like they have since the religion was first born.

Is it not enough to goto church every Sunday? You feel the need to spread the good word to everyone, even on a website where a man is asking a question about how to get high? He didn't ask I'm thinking of becoming Christan, did he?

The bible, while teaches *some* good morals, is usually taken completely out of context and causes more harm then good. And don't get me started on all the great scientific data it has (the creationist museum? seriously?)

I'm just so sick of religious nuts trying to put it off to other people. I was a protestant and while in Sunday school was kicked out for asking too many questions.. i.e. How did Noah get all of the animals from all continents onto one boat? // A man lived in a giant fish for 3 days?? // He turned her into a pillar of SALT? What an asshole! etc. Apparently since I legitimate questions, using something called Critical Thinking as a boy, they felt I was disruley and kicked me out. lol such a loving church. (read some history of what it has done over the last millennium;;; Lots of murder, scams, etc... fun stuff!) Sadly, these things still go on today, in 2009, in the name of religion. I mean, really?

This man just wanted a simple question asked, he didn't ask to be bombarded with religious interjections. Go talk to your church group instead of pushing it onto others. Religion is a cancer it seems, it will probably destroy the world.. just like in the good book.. except not by an invisible man, but rather, by us humans, fighting over... yea, you guessed it, religion.

My apologies for blowing up on you, as you yourself really didn't do much more than offer a simple poem, but even throughout this thread I've seen plenty of posts about God, and it's ridiculous. Do you encounter atheists preaching how great it is? How you don't have to feel like s*** for sinning (.ie. Oh no! I thought of a woman with bad thoughts.. I sinned and I'm a horrible person. God save me.. =/ ) . It's called Human Nature.

I'm starting to write a novel here, and perhaps I should? I've just been seeing WAY too much of this s*** lately and I'm sick of it.

Suboxone binds to opiate receptors irreversably - once you take it, all the receptors that bind to it are out of circulation until they are replaced by normal mechanisms, which takes 72 hrs on average to complete, as 1/3rd of all receptors are recycled every day. The longer you've been on it, not only are more receptors filled, but because suboxone is an incomplete agonist, your tolerance to other opiates is gradually resolving. If you've been using suboxone for 2 months, and decide to wait the 3 days so that any heroin you use actually can bind to a receptor and have an effect, rather than not having anything to bind to and being metabolized by the liver before you feel it's effect, you MUST DECREASE your usual dose or you will OD on what would normally simply make you a little high. Most of the documented OD deaths on suboxone patients are from this phenomenon - people relapsing into their addiction, and taking what used to be a 'just enough' dose, then keeling over dead because their bodies can't handle that much anymore. If you are getting the suboxone from a Dr., I urge you to call them and let them know you are having problems and at a high risk of relapse right now, because you need help. If you're buying it on the street, give it 3 days or you're wasting your money, and even then be VERY CAREFUL, you can OD now MUCH EASIER than you could before.

You can take a Suboxone and shot heroin about 5 hrs after take the sub- I don't know how much of the heroin you'll feel- Seems pretty worthless to waste dope like that- WAIT AT LEAST 24 Hrs so you can at least feel something???

Ok, Justin, I am also a heroin addict, I am not using anymore because I have been on methadone for many years, I also think the judgmental posters should just not answer if you dont like the question..Maybe Justin does want attention, but then maybe he does need help, so to heck with you Sue, and the same to the bible thumpers..To answer your question Justin, you shouldn't use any opiate within 12 hours of suboxone or you can go into instant withdrawls. and that is no joke..I just want to add that all of you preachy types can go to He** because any person asking for help deserves to have their questions answered NO MATTER WHAT. I am sure Justin knows what heroin is, just like I do, and if anyone had told me 20 years ago that heroin was bad, I would been pissed off to be treated like an idiot.Thanks to Tedd, mark Sid_vicious proud atheist, and anyone else who is good enough to stand up to the bullies here, This little board has always been friendly, but with this thread, I feel the dummies from the old vicodin board come out. TO EVERYONE OFFERING THEIR ADVICE AND USING THIS AS A PLACE TO RANT AND RAVE ABOUT ALL YOUR OPINIONS ON LIFE - Just answer the person's dang question. This seems like an opinion in itself but I'm just reminding you all what this is FOR - a place where anyone who knows a little info can help someone out. It is not your job to tell him what to do - Focus on yourselves and making yourselves better. And if you're on a site discussing oxycontin and suboxone, etc. - chances are you were desperate once and therefore a hypocrit. Answer his question and give him some help - it's his choice and you can't save him by being judgmental - that's what makes us addicts want to use MORE! Do you know anything about treating addiction? The person HAS to want it themselves or else it won't work. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE - ASK ANYONE - No addict will stay clean unless it is what he or she wants for themselves and not what their parents or friends or strangers on a website who don't even know them want them to do. BY THE WAY - This came up in one of my CD Med groups and my PSYCHIATRIST SAID that you have to wait 48 hours before taking anything including METHADONE - methadone, unlike suboxone, doesn't keep you from getting high if you decide to use. Suboxone blocks certain receptors, making it impossible for those neurotransmitters to get through and have an affect on one. So don't waste your drugs and wait 48 hours, just to be sure. Trust me, it'll be worth it. And that goes for those interested in switching from suboxone to methadone because of the extreme side effects many experience while on suboxone (I know, I take it) including becoming drenched in sweat everytime it's hot or you move two inches, having dry mouth that won't go away unless you're constantly sipping on water - which is also embarassing - and feeling so tired that you have to take a caffeine pill to be able to get up out of bed, as well as getting daily migraines. Believe me - I'm so thankful that suboxone is available to us so that we can change our lives and make some sort of contribution to society - but at times the side affects are a lot to handle and you just want to give up but remember, as each drop of sweat drips down from your chest to your belly button - you are now able to BE PRESENT and have a chance at a normal life. For those who wish to use - it's their choice so please leave them alone, especially if you're an addict yourself. THANK YOU

Just to clarify what pat said, if you have taking suboxone first, then you dont risk going in to WD taking any opiate, you risk major WD if you take the suboxone to quick after opiates..

After reading this site, I really had to laugh at all of those so called Christians. Do Christians ever go to school and get an education? Addiction is a DISEASE, just like Cancer, AIDS, Diabetes, etc. So, to those of you who are railing on this poor guy, all he is asking is for truthful, good information, not your own personal, religious beliefs. Susan is a whack job and needs to go back to High School. The others need to understand why this site exists; to provide truthful information and help minimize harm to a person. You are blaming the victim, when they have a disease. Would you say these things to a Diabetic, or a person with a Brain Tumor? Why don't you talk to your GOD about that?

Something that was not pointed out, even by the other physician, is that Suboxone has two medications in one tablet: Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It is the Naloxone that has the three day half life. What it does is covers the receptors that the Narcotic binds with. Emergency Rooms use some form of this medication in cases of overdosing, to bring somebody out of a Heroin overdose. The manufacturer put it in Suboxone, so people cannot use other narcotics while taking Suboxone. There is another medication, called Subutex, which does not have the Naloxone in it. This is just Buprenorphine.

By the way, for all of you Bible-Thumpers and judgmental people, what do you think the NUMBER ONE PRESCRIBED MEDICATION is in the USA? It is Vicodin. Well, the number one medication prescribed in Europe is Buprenorphine!!! It has JUST been approved by the FDA in a patch form, to control pain. The manufacturer in the US is Pharma Purdue. Look it up.

So, everyone who is not answering this persons question and just spewing your uneducated, idiotic opinions need to go elsewhere. Get off your soapbox, because nobody wants to read what you have to say. It is not educational, or helpful.

I began the Needle Exchange program in San Francisco, to prevent the spread of AIDS. All of the Conservative Christians are so up in arms about it, because they are not educated. Go to Switzerland, where they have FREE Heroin clinics. All you have to do, is go in and get a sterile needle, with Pharmaceutical grade Heroin and have a SAFE PLACE to shoot up.

Maybe all of you dumb-ass people should do a little research before you start giving out your opinions. Switzerland is a VERY conservative country, but they are also very educated and do the RIGHT THING! So should we, instead of being controlled by these whack-jobs in our government.

I looked on every forum of every site trying to find out the same thing... In fact, to the t. Except I took a half sub at 6 am. So it is 4pm now... 10 hrs later, I just shot a gram. In all honesty, I could be more high, but I did feel it. Let me clarify, I only used sub for one day.

It differs with every person but its 8 to 15 hours. If u feel sick, chances are u are good to go :)

And last I checked, opium and marijuana were both around, and used, during the time of Jesus Christ. Heroin is made from opium. So please, go read the bible and actually learn something, since you obviously do not know a damn thing. Besides, do you think God wants him to burn in hell? No. So therefor, you are a sinner for your comment. And chances are, you'll be the one 'rotting in hell'

Well as a matter of fact I just tried this lol. To be detailed I took about 3/4 of my 8mg suboxone at around 8 am before work. It is about 7:30 pm now and I just did about half of my 30 bag of black tar. I injected and felt a little wave of high and that taste that you get in the back of your mouth. Needless to say I didn't get the full affect but I also didn't feel nothing either. As some say it depends on the person naturally just like any medication/drug. I am to scared to do the other half because I am afraid that maybe if I hadn't taken the sub then I would have gotten hella high and don't want to risk OD because I want to feel good. But you bet your ass in about three hours I will try a little more and see what happens or wait until the morning in which I am fairly confident I will receive full affects again.
Oh and by the way you're all hypocrites. You Christians are just so obviously stupid I don't even have to explain that one but also the ones saying that you're dumb for posting your opinions and to go somewhere else.... Ummm... What did you just do? You posted your opinion that did not help the original poster I.E HYPOCRITE. Your opinion that there opinion is dumb is not a fact but indeed your own opinion as well -_-.
All in all the obvious is you need to wait a goodly amount of time, at least twelve hours. And obviously don't try a full amount. I know it sucks because getting the rush is half the reason some of us do it but it's not worth it while so on the line between the affects of subs wearing off. If you must indeed have that rush then just wait a day so you know for sure. You're on a sub it's not like your wd or anything and if you are wd then to me that's an indication you will feel full affects and that you do not need to wait any longer. I hope this was helpful.

Ok, clearly he/she is asking a damn question. When we addicts ask questions like these we aren't looking to be preached at. We aren't f***ing stupid and know the damn f***ing dangers we are putting ourselves in. And no, the reason doctors don't prescribe pain meds to people is because they have a highly addictive potential. Thus why there are different classes of control substances CII through CIV have high potential for addiction and misuse CHEMICALLY. damn. Learn something before speaking. Not to mention prescribed pain medication is actually the number 1 abused drug in America, so people who shoot up aren't the f***ing reason it's so hard. It's people seeking medication for pain, then their body becoming resistant to the medication/used to it, and needing more. Speaking as a pharmacy tech I damn well need to know this information. To answer your question it really depends on how much you've taken. I've used a small dose and been fine and for high in 5 hours after. But as mentioned before the half life is extremely long and it's probably best to wait 24 hours if you don't want to risk wasting your s***. Just like you should wait 24 hours after using before starting subs again. Seriously people... We as f***ing addicts damn well know the f***ing risk we are taking and unless you've been in an addicts shoes and know, shut the f*** up and stop acting like you know and that we're scum. It's people like that who make it hard to want to be part of society anyway. There's nothing wrong you bro, stay safe and be smart. I hope you kick the habit one day ??

Susan. You are very unsympathetic. "Us good people" Susan you are not behaving as a very good person. Why are you on this site, to judge and insult people? Does this somehow help you to feel better about yourself? I believe you might do much better attempting to work on yourself with the help of a trained professional rather than subjecting others to your issues. It appears that you are not aware that addiction/alcoholism is considered a disesse not a moral deficiency thus it's treatment is covered by health insurance. The countries that have done the best at reducing drug driven crime, HIV, Hepatitis, death from overdose etc. Are the countries which have begun to treat addiction as a health issue and yes as well as being an addict having had 12 years clean my education is in chemical dependency counseling and I have worked in the field with other recovering addicts as well as non addicts, most very good, responsible people. Susan, many of the heroin addicts you are spending your precious time and energy shaming were addicted to the pills prescribed by their doctors you good people are having a hard time getting. You are no different than anyone on this site and your negativity is not welcome. I pray you find help but I do not believe you will find it through the behavior you have displayed on this page.
