Oxycodone Withdrawal Help (Top voted first)

Updated

Have been using opiets for over 35 years. Started with auto accident. Doctor prescribed over a long period then passed away. Was addicted and had to purchase illegally locally. Now still having problem with addiction and paying most of my SSI and Retirement for what I can get. Went to a mandatory class in Elizabeth City, NC several times weekly just to be able to get prescription for Suboxone. It worked but got tired of sitting 3 hours in class with young people and now back on the hard stuff. Why can one purchase cigarettes and liquor that kills but I can't get the necessary drugs to make me feel normal. Is there any help in sight?

sorry to hear about your situation, but a lot of us are in your shoes, it is unfortunate...

like someone suggested already, best thing out there for pain would be methadone, suboxone contains another medicine in called "Nalaxone" which is a opiate blocker, even though it has it you will/should still get some pain relief from it but nowhere near what you’d get from methadone (it used to be prescribed as a pain killer, now typically only found in methadone clinics)

in addition if you need to be hospitalized the regular amounts of pain meds will not work, with methatdone as it build up in your system all they'll have to do is give you more pain meds and monitor your vitals

nalaxone (the part of suboxone) is harder to overcome, as it blocks the receptors in your brain and prevents pain meds to be absorbed by your body making doctors in the hospital be reluctant to make you comfortable due to risk of overdose. they would probably give you some sort of bezodiazepine to counteract nalaxone (which is also central nervous depressant (CNS)) then start pain relief like hydro-morphine (diladud) with extreme caution meaning you might be in pain for quite some time...

nalaxone stays in you system for a limited time only, if i remember it’s half-life effect is 24hrs (so after 24hrs half of it remains, then after next 24 drops down by another half, etc) but it all depends on your metabolism how quickly your system can purge it from you body

just keep in mind as soon as you're prescribed suboxone or go to methadone clinic no matter what the reasons were, and you go to a regular pain clinic, you would be considered an addict or at the very least they will not assist you the same as the do other patients...

Best of luck to you!

Do NOT, i repeat DO NOT go on methadone. I was on it for 8 years and its the same crap as H if not worse. You just think your ok, you lie to other people that your ok, while in reality you are constantly on heavy drugs that have a soul purpose of you not getting hepatitis or aids doing H. The withdrawals from methadone are equall to or much worse than H withdrawal. Suboxone makes you feel clean, but you're not. It's just another preventional drug that has minimum effect of being drugged up. Feeling perky and "normal" is something you probably havent experienced in a while at it gives you the illusion that you are "ok", "clean", "normal"... It's only good short term, and thats after the transfer from tapering your meth to under 2 a day than going 48 hours cold turkey before even thinking about starting it. However, better than the methadone option if you stick to a clean tapering calendar ending with tramadol, diazepam to get off the suboxone. So if your thinking about chosing, chose the sub, but not for a long period of time. It would be ideal to go on the suboxone transfer tapered down to a tramadol/alprazolam (xanax) or diazepam and if possible small dosages of clozapine and clonazepam while simultaneously putting you on an antidepressant like venlafaxine that would carry out for a short period (few months). And yeah, get in a program.

One of the many flaws of this country is how our federal government controls and regulates whatever it is they "consider" to be safe and disregard many things that actually are safe. Cannabis being a prime example of this.

In the end, I found that it's only about the percentage of profits they can make, and unfortunately has very little to do with whether or not a substance is actually good or bad for you.

Have you considered trying medical marijuana to help manage any withdrawal symptoms?

I fully understand. The suboxone does work. I was told there are places it is prescribed w?o classes.Where? I had an excruciating headache on 7th day of suboxone ( even drooling some ) still scares me and the Dr. was not there although they still demanded I attend class, to addres the severeheadache they totally dropped the ball. When I had an emergency, all that was said was i better not miss a class.So.There went the suboxone. If anyone knows of anywhere near Branson, Mo. w/o classes advise.Never had a street drug problem.Tolerance not addiction.

First of all the withdrawal you are saying you have does not get that severe after only 60 days on oxy. I take 50 mg a day for 3 week's then stop and suffer the pain for 2 weeks so I don't get addicted I have been through serve withdrawal and would rather have 3 week's pain relif and two weeks in pain than go through 12 days of withdrawal. You have to man up take the pain manage your meds so you don't get addicted try meds one day nothing the next two days the meds again do this you won't get addicted as I SD take the pain on the off days it means you are still alive...

I agree 100%. Methadone will set you straight. I was on about 90 mgs a day about 10 years ago and I worked like a dog and got back on my feet. Methadone is good for the people who want to get away from the lifestyle of trying to stay well.
