Metformin Help Please

Hi. I have been on metformin 500mg twice a day for about 4 months. I m a 52 year old male, non diabetic taking the drug for its life extension properties. Here's my issue. Recent blood work indicated my glucose level is now 60 (it has always been normal before). My seasonal Dr. in Florida advised me to reduce the dosage to 500mg once a day, at night only. Im aware that the effective dose is at least 1500mg. per day. I showed my blood results to my regular Dr who said that 60 is not a "significant value" (and that metformin is not known to cause hypoglycemia) and he advised that I could up the dose to 1000mg, twice per day. Obviously I'm confused. Both of these docs have great reputations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So far, there has only been one small study that showed that it could increase lifespan.

And yes, it most certainly is known to cause hypoglycemia, the FDA even warns of it as a possible side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, diarrhea and flatulence.

Normal blood sugar levels are between 80 to 120, so 60 is a little low.

But, the main question is were you having any symptoms of hypoglycemia, such as dizziness, shakiness, tremors, drowsiness and nausea?

If not, then there may not be any reason to worry. It's like having low blood pressure, as long as you feel fine and aren't getting dizzy, passing out or etc. then it's nothing to worry about. Most doctors go by the symptoms.

Are you on any other medications?

Thanks for the response! I have no symptoms other than a bit more sleepy and dry mouth but those are quite tolerable. My additional meds are nexium, lipitor, paxil, wellbutrin, amlodopine, and androgel.
